How to Get There
I travelled with my mom and 2 children age 2-5 and had a great trip. We took full advantage of all the things to do at the resort. Fernando on the beach was amazing with the water activities. He took us all out an a very enjoyable sail boat ride. The beach has a strong undertow and me and my son actually got sucked into it and he couldn’t have gotten to us any quicker and helped my son. I lost my sun glasses in the mix and Fernando had them waiting for me the next day.
Lots of options for food however I found most food cold. Pancakes French toast and waffles were all very good but always were cool. The pizza is amazing and was always fresh ! The ice cream machine was broke for 5 of 7 days we were there.
The staff are amazing and so accommodating. No one said no to us all week. They truly try to please all.
Bell boy service was super fast.
We took a taxi to the airport before the bus came and was the best decision to skip the rush with everyone else. It was 250 pesos.
My son had many mosquito bites. There were non in site our first half of our trip but 3 days in he got several as well as myself. My other two travel companions got very few.
My son who is 2 cut his eye lid on the slide coming down (to no fault of the hotel) and Mario was absolutely amazing and so attentive. He acted quickly and was very clean about everything. We had a dr called to our room who arrived within 5 minutes and put two stitches in. This was a traumatic situation of no fault again to the hotel but was handled amazing. Mario followed up every day we were there Checking in on my son.
The beds and pillows were super comfortable and the maids service was fast and daily. Fridge was stocked daily and always willing to give more of whatever asked for.
I loved the size of the resort. Everything was close together. We stayed in room 114 which is main level and central to everything. The room did however often have a sewage smell to it that came and went. I never brought this to anyways attention as it wasn’t unbearable but something to note.
The airport was a frustrating experience because they do not have carts for all your luggage and travelled with 2 kids I was definitely out numbered.
Our experience was great, extremely friendly staff especially Alberto at the front with luggage, pools were clean and had a nice swim up bar, the beach has an amazing view and very clean as well. A la Carte restaurants were great especially Sushi & Italian. After reading earlier reviews we were a bit worried about the bookings but we had no issues and with premium we were able to book for days in advance. premium is the best way to go while staying here. The lady who makes eggs in the buffet is good and makes a great omelette. overall experience was amazing and we will definitely be coming back.
Excellent holiday once again at the Barcelo Huatulco. Hats of to the hard work of breakfast man Tomas Garcia at the Dona Rosa. And a big thanks to Fernando and Marcial who brought delicious drinks to the pool area. Excellent service.
We recently returned from our third consecutive stay at the Barcelo Huatulco.
We are a family of four with a variety of interests.
Here is why we have returned to Barcelo Huatulco for three years running; the Huatulco weather is consistently high and without precipitation, the size of this resort allows us to participate in multiple activities while still being in close proximity to each other and the staff at this resort make it worthy of our vacation dollars and our accolades.
Here are four staff members that deserve recognition:
Fernando Catalan. Fernando greeted each member of our family the first day we arrived on this trip remembering us and engaging us in conversation about how we had been during the year since we last saw each other. Fernando is highly professional, courteous and polite. But it is his ability to relate to each guest that sets him apart. Fernando’s interest in learning English is evident and he takes steps not just to learn “proper formal” English but also the English we actually speak. His attention to detail amazed us as he prepared for a romantic dinner on the beach for guests.
Abraham Torres. Abraham has mad grilling skills. He has the ability to serve hundreds of grilled meals made to order during lunch. He knows how to multitask and prepare all meals to perfection. The best grilled meats and meals I ate were as a result of Abraham who understands how to safely cook flavourable meats from medium rare to well done. On Abraham’s day off his absence was noted by many. Those in line at the grill were eager for Abraham’s return for his skills and his interactions with us as he worked.
Fernando Chavez. Fernando has a passion for the environment, the water and sharing his knowledge of Tangolunda Bay with those he happily takes out on the resort’s catamaran each day. Fernando was easy to engage in conversation and willing to go beyond our expectations.
Alma. Thank you to Alma in the Kids Activity Centre. Alma made my daughter feel welcome and engaged her in a variety of activities at the kids club and around the resort. Together with Guadalupe they make a great team.
Here are the pros of this resort for our family of four:
Layout of the resort and close proximity of everything needed throughout a day
Amazing staff that are willing to meet each guests individual needs.
The gym has good equipment and all the necessary machines for a light to hard workout.
Weather, proximity to the airport and warm ocean water.
There is a small playground and trampoline that offer a break from water sports for a few minutes a day. Both were closed as our week ended but we hope the resort sees the value in these and builds newer safer ones.
The addition of a piano player in the Italian restaurant was amazing.
Mexican night on Friday before the show and the show that followed.
The most efficient and amazing laundry service.
Here are the cons:
There is a bathroom attached to La Tortuga restaurant. It has been repaired and patched and cleaned but it needs to be gutted. It is beyond repair and is an embarrassing part of the resort.
The new token system in the games room. The games room also needs a complete gut and overhaul. It needs to be family friendly and have a variety of equipment in good working order not a few fancy machines that many guests aren’t interested in paying for.
There are cats that appear nightly on the Dona Rosa’s patio. They are strays but when fed by guests they are never going to go away. More needs to be done to get them away from this one last remaining outdoor dining area at the Dona Rosa.
During our first stay in 2017 guests had the nightly option of eating outside of the Dona Rosa restaurant. Staff would set up large round tables outside and guests would be seated at these tables alongside other guests. This was a wonderful and inviting way to meet more guests, interact with people and enjoy an amazing meal outside. In 2018 this feature was removed. I was told the decision was made to ensure food standards. I am not sure what was gained in food quality but I do know what was lost; a family feeling and the ability to sit outside to dine under the Mexican sky in 26 degree evening warmth.
Please bring back the slush machine at the edge of the pool bar and replicate the Sunwing outdoor bbq for all guests one night. It was wonderful and was another opportunity to bring everyone together. It was sorely missed in 2019.
The staff at the resort will go out of their way to accommodate requests. Whether it be for a much desired apple for a child at dinner or a vegan meal in the midst of the Mexican restaurant.
Learn some Spanish it goes a long way and is appreciated despite our bungles and mistakes in pronunciation.
Tip well. Its 32 degrees outside and your drink arrives cold and correct each time. It should be met with pesos as a thank you.
Saul at the barcelo is a great asset, to the hotel, he really cares and helps with everything, Huatulco is a special place and saul on the beach makes it even better, he deserves every tip he gets, see you in 4 months saul
