Wonderful Place, but Resting on its Laurels
Reviewed 2 days ago

I arrived yesterday with friends. The fact that I am writing this while I am at the Chateau should be indicative of my disappointment with the service level of the establishment. On the positive side, the grounds are stunning. The Château itself is impressive. Though air conditioning would be nice, it is completely understandable that it is not available. And the rooms remain habitable (in the evenings), with open windows and a fan.

The service, however, is subpar. No one took time to explain the dining options, nor give any general information about where to find different dining areas (breakfast is on the 2nd floor unlike lunch and dinner). Any request is met mostly with barely concealed boredom or irritation. The food offerings were inconsistent. Half of our group had a sublime meal and the other half were grateful we shared.

Overall, I will not return based on the service alone. I would suggest that everyone come to see the grounds and enjoy the atmosphere at least once. And then stay elsewhere.

Great start to European family holiday

What a way to start our holiday. This hotel is lovely & situated in a very quiet beautiful town. Be aware there is not too much close by within walking distance however, so a car is essential if you want to go site seeing. The hotel is set in a beautiful location with a lovely garden & stream running beside it. Our whole family enjoyed our stay here. We dinned in the restaurant on our first night & the food was amazing. Would definitely stay here again.

Good but not great

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our holiday in the Burgundy region, having just come from the Côte de Beaune area.

The hotel is an impressive drive up. The grounds are very expansive and manicured to perfection. The sculpture art dotting the grounds was also a nice touch and very interesting. It lent a modern, whimsical air to what is essentially an ancient group of buildings. We booked a suite and the room was huge! Sitting room, second toilet and powder room and a large main bedroom and bath.

*no air conditioning*
we had a fan in the bedroom which was ok but it was very hot weather and not very comfortable sleeping or staying in other parts of the suite where there was no fan.

The restaurant we skipped, based on the average reviews and were glad we did as we had some amazing meals in nearby villages no more then 10 mins drive. We did eat lunch in the terrace one of the days which was nice enough, very pretty, but expensive prices for what you get.

The pool was nice and very clean. The photos were definitely nicer then the reality but it was fine for cooling off. No wine or spirits served at the pool which was disappointing, but not a huge deal. Just would have been nice to know in advance.

The front desk staff was adequate meaning nobody was rude at all and we got what we needed, but we also did not experience the warm welcome and helpful attitude that we saw almost everywhere else in Burgundy. And with a hotel that markets itself as prestigious, I definitely expected more. The front desk staff seemed distracted and disinterested from the moment we arrived. Three people at the front desk, mostly looking down at something else. They seemed to want to rush through checking us in and getting us away as quickly as possible. They all seemed like they were getting through their day at a boring job, rather than taking pride in their hotel and making their guests welcome. I noticed the same treatment to others in queue, so it was not that we were somehow singled out. When we asked for a reservation to be made at a restaurant nearby we wanted to try, it seemed more like a hassle. When we asked for a towel for the pool, it also seemed like a hassle. We had what we needed and our stay was ok, but the lack of customer service and the real disinterest from the front desk did not make this stay anything great and we did not feel valued as guests. Because of this, when we vacation in the area again, we would stay elsewhere.

We did have a staff member knock to see if we wanted turn down service our first night and she was extremely sweet. So it did not seem to be everyone on staff, but the front desk is mostly who we interacted with.

Visit to Burgundy/Wine Country and the Chateau
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Beautiful Chateau situated in the heart of Burgundy wine country. The grounds are manicured and the hotel is quaint, quiet and provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city tours. Our favorite place was the terrace out front...from coffee and pastries in the morning...to late afternoon drinks and light fare. Well worth a visit.

Great location and service

The castle is very beautiful and the gardens are very nice. Good swimming pool and tennis court. The rooms are spacious, but only with fan (no ac). Very good restaurant with better than average food, but needs a bit more attention to detail on the food site to be perfect. Service is really good for hotel and restaurants. The wine list is extensive and full of good stuff. Very nice breakfast. Parking is safe, but outdoor so be careful not to park under the trees if you want to avoid a dirty car.
