How to Get There
From Florida, we flew non stop with JetBlue into Nassau that had free WiFi. There was a 5 hour wait to fly with Western Air to South Andros airport.
So we found a taxi and went 10 minutes to Compass Point. It has a public restaurant, but their beach is private. If you ask after eating in their restaurant, they’ll let you walk on the beach.
Arrived in Congo Town from Nassau which is a very remote airport. Tiamo Resort made arrangements for someone to pick us up and they took us to a boat dock for our final mode of transportation by boat to Tiamo.
About a 10 minute boat ride later we were greeted at Tiamo’s boat dock by a very nice gentleman named Wilfried. He welcomed us over to their spacious dining and bar area that had very comfy couches and there was a prepared “Island”drink prepared for me and my husband.
Next, Wilfried took us to our very clean and spacious “pool villa” and showed us the layout of the villa. My favorite was the shower which in the exterior part of the surrounding porch. It was huge and did not have air condition that gave it a natural environment feel to it.
The 3 meals a day were spectacular. The breakfast was co to rental and pancakes etc. The multiple choices Chef Keith placed on the daily menus for lunch and dinner were spectacular. I never knew I like so many different foods!
The pool at our villa was lit every night and the pool jets were on during the day. The floating cabanas were easy to wade out to.
It took us 2 days to unwind and really enjoy the disconnect, National Geographic paradise. There was WiFi and our phones actually worked when communicating with family. A simple adjustment to Call Roaming and Cellular helps.
The bugs (lookalike deer flies, mosquitos, and no seums) were a distraction, which I had read in all of the reviews. My husband sprayed dolce cologne on his ankles and rubbed the same on his arms and it worked great for him!
Our trip back was the same. US customs was a breeze. Nassau has its own area. US departure gates are upstairs and has nice shops and a food court.
I would recommend Tiamo Resort. It’s ecological and environmentally savvy. Couples would enjoy the peaceful/quiet solitude of the resort!
The location is beautiful. The resort itself is beautiful with a truly outstanding staff. It is quiet and a great place to get away from the world. No TV, no phone, iffy WiFi. Food is truly outstanding!
Bring bug spray with Deet. Apply it on the ferry. Apply liberally and often. Benadryl cream or spray and or pills may be useful.
The beach and rooms were nice, staff was lovely and attentive, snorkeling is great BUT the Sand Flies are relentless. They are most bad at sunrise and sunset and you literally cant stand outside without getting eaten alive. We werent aware of this issue when we booked and when we arrived were told about it and to use coconut oil to help not to get bitten. but that didnt work AT ALL--it looks like we have the measles! it affected our sleep because of the itching, back at home now we are still itching, and feeling pretty out of it. 60% of our bodies are covered in bites. Tiamo is a a beautiful spot but they MUST do more to deal with this issue as it truly affected our enjoyment and we unfortunately wouldn't go back again because of the bugs.
The views were absolutely stunning! The food was amazing. Very seclusion. The sand flies are every inch of us and left us extremely uncomfortable for weeks after our trip ended. Bring super deet bug spray, benedryl, epinephrine, caladryl lotion and your own liquor. Know there is absolutely no television on the island and no store to purchase anything.
The Food is stunningly great! Chef Keith rocks!
The bugs are a huge nuisance
Snorkeling by far is the best in this region of the Bahamas
Weather is iffy at this time of year but worth the trip for the natural and beautiful environment and snorkelling - saw sharks, dolphins, stingrays, lobster...
The staff are super friendly
If you love being REALLY remote this is the place
The flight in on a seaplane is a must!
