How to Get There
Perhaps this is the best hotel in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, but that doesn't automatically make it a 5 star property. The grounds are very nice, the rooms are ok, but they miss on all the little things that are needed to be classified as a 5 star resort. For example:
didn't get our wake up call
on one of the days they didn't make up the room. Had to call 3 times starting at 3pm
2 out of the 3 nights no turn down service
Fitness center had no staff
The food at Mowry's was awful.
We stayed at the wonderful Canyon Suites at The Phoenician on May 9th & 10th.
We were warmly greeted by Jordan Collier upon our arrival. Jordan & his staff could not do enough to be sure that we had the most fantastic experience during our stay!
Our suite #8335 was overlooking the beautiful pool. My husband surprised me with flowers in our room for our Anniversary & the staff also had a bottle of bubbly chilling for us, Thank you to Kate & the Canyon Team!!!.Such a lovely thing to do! We can't wait to return to The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician the next time we are in Scottsdale!!
Everything at Canyon Suites met our high expectations. The check in process was seamless and graciously welcoming, our “standard” room was anything but standard; spacious, comfortable with an awesome flat screen television in the bathroom! Breakfast was delicious and substantial, beautifully displayed and re stocked. We love the professional coffee machine that didn’t require a barista. The pool was sensuous with constantly replaced pitchers of ice water and frequent tasty amuse bouche delivered to your chaise lounges. A few small suggestions, every day we had to request our room to be made up, several times it was after 4:00. Also, we looked forward to an early morning bike ride before the day became too hot only to discover that the bike rentals started at 8:00. Luckily, a former restaurant manager at the Phoenician took a lot of initiative, made a few calls and was able to unlock a couple of bikes just for us! He couldn’t provide helmets and locks, but we were appreciative of his can do attitude. We wish we hadn’t rented a car because the wonderful pool, hikes up Camel Back mountain and complimentary shuttles made for a lovely stress free vacation, no need to venture far from this spectacular desert oasis.
My husband and I really wanted to love the Canyon Suites. However, the hotel just doesn't deliver in the same way that we have come to expect (and have received) from similarly situated properties.
First, I believe in giving credit where credit is due. The majority of the staff were friendly and attentive. Admittedly, we usually do not require much attention as we prefer to explore properties and the surrounding areas on our own. However,we did experience a few almost unfortunate snafus.
During the reservations process, we kindly requested a beautiful view and in turn, we were promised a view of the "lovely new golf course." So upon arrival, we were surprisingly disappointed to discover that the lovely new golf course was in fact still a work in progress with huge unsightly dirt piles and construction equipment. To the staff's credit, we were promptly moved to another room with the promise that our things would be transported immediately.
Shortly after receiving our luggage, I realized that my travel blanket had been left in the former room. I immediately notified staff and was assured that the matter would be resolved quickly. Well, it took more than a couple of hours to track down my vintage, designer piece. To be honest, the problem wasn't necessarily that this was a pricey item in jeopardy of being lost forever, rather it was the cavalier attitude of the two gentlemen on duty. I got responses ranging from "I wasn't on shift when it was misplaced," to "Are you really sure you even brought it from home?" Completely unacceptable responses to say the least. Even after I informed them of our last room number and told them where I had hung the blanket, it wasn't until my husband and I asked to inspect the other room that we saw it there in plain sight. Kudos on the sleuthing gentlemen! Disappointing.
Breakfast was subpar (think cold cereals, mini bagels, yogurt, unimpressive selection of fruit)showers are small, and the property just lacked the overall feel of exclusivity to which we are accustomed. In fact, I believe that if the right room category and location are selected, one might enjoy the "regular " Phoenician as much, if not more. Unfortunately, this was not money well spent but fortunately we have experienced our fair share of luxury vacations and have a keen understanding of what a true luxury property offers.
Just WOW. The best experience at any luxurious resort I have ever experienced. The service is impeccable. Highly recommend the Canyon Suites. Rooms are excellent, pool and hot tub area, and dining all fantastic, but the staff made the trip an A++. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.
