How to Get There
The last time I stayed at this property, it was a Ritz Carlton. This visit, I experienced a decidedly laid back vibe (relatively speaking), pretty hilarious decor (the "Moo" light fixtures, and improved and updated bath facilities. I was in an overflow group from the Biltmore, and it was just fine.
Let's start with the good. This hotel is stunning. Whoever designed and decorated it is amazing. The valets are professional and very helpfull. Unfortunately, that is where any sort of good service stops. As I approached the front desk, the only available front desk agent was having a conversation with a co-worker and would not even acknowledge us until she finished her conversation. After getting settled into our room, we went to the bar for a drink. The bartender was quick to serve us but it was obvious she would rather have been somewhere else. The next morning for breakfast, the service continued to be bad. The server kept disapperaring into the back room while we waited for our drinks that sat at the bar for sometime. She eventually brought them and our food quickly followed. The food was delicious but we never saw our server again until she brought the bill. No coffee refil, no asking how our breakfast was, etc. Later that day we went to the pool. The server walked right by us when we tried to get her attention to order a drink. About 10 minutes later I saw her again and called her over and ordered. Another 10 minutes for our drinks. We eventually moved to some better chairs closer to the pool. The dirty tables had never been cleared and when she came to refil our drinks while we were in the pool, she refilled the glasses that were there before us, but not our glasses. I eventually tried to order a snack and she took the order. After seeing several people, who ordered after me, get their food, I approached the small building where the servers were and asked when we might get ours. Turns out she never ordered it. The servers were just hanging out in the the server station having great conversations. When we were checking out, I told the front desk agent what had happened and she said she would remove the parking fee to make up for it. I was never aware there was a parking fee and saw no credit to my account for it. This type of service really ruined what was supossed to be a getaway weekend with my husband. I will not be back.
My husband had a conference in Phoenix and we were planning to go out west for our honeymoon so we chose to stay at the Camby for the first leg of our honeymoon, since that is where his conference was. It was only meant to be a jumping off point to our vacation, but staying at The Camby set the tone for a wonderful week! Everyone (from housekeeping to management) was so nice and super helpful! Every request that we had was taken care of immediately! There are not many places can make you feel like you’re truly “welcome” but this place did just that. The room was beautiful and the view was breathtaking! Very memorable experience! We will be back!
The Camby is hitting on all cylinders. Every function I dealt with (security, housekeeping, front desk, bell desk, restaurant, pool staff, etc) was nothing less than excellent. Amazing hotel. All thumbs up.
I don’t know if it is cost-effective because I had a third party payor, but I would gladly return irrespective of cost.
The Camby used to be an old Ritz hotel. They gave it a fresh look with trendy décor and a funky design. I do appreciate that they kept the marble vanity/floor in the bathrooms. The service was pleasant throughout the hotel. Our room was a decent size with a comfortable bed. I enjoyed sitting and reading out by the small pool on the 2nd floor. The hotel is in a great location with many dining/shopping options along with a large movie theater within walking distance. There was some miscommunication about our reserved car to the airport in the morning, but we did end up making it on time. A nice place to stay for a weekend!
