Originally built as a private residence, this rustic resort on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast provides the utmost in jungle seclusion. From the almondwood casitas and cozy hammocks to the bamboo bar and candlelit dining space, the intimate retreat has a breezy, tropical vibe. Latitude 10 is surrounded by lush jungle in nearly all directions, but it also boasts spectacular Pacific Ocean views thanks to its location on the Nicoya Peninsula. And it’s just a 15-minute walk to a stretch of private beach.
Bed and Bath
The property’s five open-air casitas have a secluded, jungle feel. They’re constructed completely from Costa Rican almondwood, dressed in white linens and decorated with local art. All casitas come with such mod cons as minifridges and free WiFi, though the Master Suite is worth the splurge for the private deck and ocean views.
While the Latitude 10 is well suited to a romantic getaway, with its private pool, beach and tranquil spa, the resort also offers a wide range of outdoor activities that families will love, from surfing lessons and kayaking to horseback riding and canopy tours. After a day of adventure or relaxation, don’t miss out on an indulgent dinner in the clubhouse, where Latitude’s full-time chef serves local dishes like fresh tuna in mango and pineapple salsa from an open kitchen.
In the Area
The resort is just three miles from the 7,560-acre Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve, a local hot spot for watching wildlife. Don’t miss the famous Montezuma Waterfall Canopy Tour, during which you’ll zipline through the canopy and take in the views of the forest and waterfalls. Cool down with a Seascape Kayak Tour, when you’ll be sure to see sea turtles, monkeys and pelicans. Let someone else take the wheel with a cruise around Isla Tortuga, where you can sip tropical drinks while marveling at Costa Rica’s diverse marine life.
How to Get There
We heard great things about Latitude 10 and were not disappointed. This is everything a small, self-contained boutique resort should be, although I would call it a “hidden gem” as opposed to a resort in the conventional sense. The open-air Casitas are top-notch, the staff is first class and personable, and the amenities, cuisine, and ambiance are outstanding. Can’t wait to go back again.
Welcome to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica where the squirrels are orange and the ice melts fast. We enjoyed a very magical trip to Latitude 10. From the moment we started booking this trip with the Cayuga staff, I was absolutely blown away. They booked everything from our flight plans to the car ride to the hotel to the travel plans to flying to the next hotel, they booked our meals and our activities and made amazing suggestions for local spots to check out. I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for a long time and I’ve NEVER experienced service like this! To say that the team went above and beyond would be a serious understatement, the Cayuga team is truly unmatched. Not only did we feel at home living in this gorgeous jungle for a week we felt like part of a Costa Rican family.
Beware! Latitude 10 is not for the in-adventurous traveler… This romantic getaway truly immerses you into a jungle paradise. Jungles have bugs and crabs and mosquitos.
TIP: pack bug repellant and a Yeti thermos so you can keep ice. Even in the winter, rain season of June and July the weather was still extremely hot and our ice melted quickly. All-natural bug repellent will NOT ward off these mosquitos, unfortunately you NEED deet.
Latitude 10 is magical. It’s the perfect place to adventure out and disconnect from the rest of the world. On our visit, the staff booked us ATVs for the trip which was the best way to travel. We went on our own without maps and really just explored the country. They also booked me surf lessons with a local guy name Micki and he kicked my butt but it was awesome!😅
The most unique thing about visiting Santa Theresa was that it was a whole different world! It’s dirt roads and grandma’s riding on their motorcycle to pick up groceries. It was a special hidden gem that I do plan to revisit someday in the future.
My husband and I spent 4 wonderful days at the Latitude 10 resort in Costa Rica. Though there were other guests there as well it truly felt as if it was our own private retreat. Our mornings were spent sipping pressed juice and watching the howler monkeys and tropical birds in the trees above. Our days were primarily spent at the pool getting some sun and sipping mixed drinks with the occasionally visit to the rocky beach just feet away to explore the tidal pools. The sea breeze kept any fee of bugs to the minimum. Service was excellent, food was fresh, and the ambiance can't be beat. Do yourself a favor and give Latitude 10 a try@
Gorgeous open-plan casitas by the ocean, under a canopy alive with wildlife (including howler monkeys!) Excellent cuisine and super friendly staff. Beach is lovely but rocky at low tide, walk to swim/ surfing spots. The dusty surf town of Santa Teresa is a short taxi ride to the south.
As one gets into the property one will immediately notice the effort that was put in the sustainability of the complex. This part of Costa Rica is well known for its jungle meeting the sandy beaches and Latitude 10 excels in enhancing your experience. But what was most striking was the staff's clear desire to make your experience the best it could be. The hotel has the best restaurant in the area. On day we were discussing where to have lunch as we wanted to do something different. One of the staff approached us and offered to put a table in a different par of the property with something a la cart. It was so delicate. But this is just one example of the many attentions every has to make your stay the best possible. Of course the fact that this hotel has only 8 rooms it feels like a house.
