Originally built as a private residence, this rustic resort on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast provides the utmost in jungle seclusion. From the almondwood casitas and cozy hammocks to the bamboo bar and candlelit dining space, the intimate retreat has a breezy, tropical vibe. Latitude 10 is surrounded by lush jungle in nearly all directions, but it also boasts spectacular Pacific Ocean views thanks to its location on the Nicoya Peninsula. And it’s just a 15-minute walk to a stretch of private beach.
Bed and Bath
The property’s five open-air casitas have a secluded, jungle feel. They’re constructed completely from Costa Rican almondwood, dressed in white linens and decorated with local art. All casitas come with such mod cons as minifridges and free WiFi, though the Master Suite is worth the splurge for the private deck and ocean views.
While the Latitude 10 is well suited to a romantic getaway, with its private pool, beach and tranquil spa, the resort also offers a wide range of outdoor activities that families will love, from surfing lessons and kayaking to horseback riding and canopy tours. After a day of adventure or relaxation, don’t miss out on an indulgent dinner in the clubhouse, where Latitude’s full-time chef serves local dishes like fresh tuna in mango and pineapple salsa from an open kitchen.
In the Area
The resort is just three miles from the 7,560-acre Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve, a local hot spot for watching wildlife. Don’t miss the famous Montezuma Waterfall Canopy Tour, during which you’ll zipline through the canopy and take in the views of the forest and waterfalls. Cool down with a Seascape Kayak Tour, when you’ll be sure to see sea turtles, monkeys and pelicans. Let someone else take the wheel with a cruise around Isla Tortuga, where you can sip tropical drinks while marveling at Costa Rica’s diverse marine life.
How to Get There
My boyfriend and I just left Latitude 10 and I can hands down say it was the best vacation and hotel experience of our lives!! Daniel, Laura, and the rest of the staff are truly wonderful people who go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you could possibly need and want. It also warmed my heart hearing Laura talk about how much she loves working for the hotel and company. That’s just the kind of place it is. Such positive evergy and everyone truly cares! We stayed in a junior suite and it was pure heaven. The open air bungalow was gorgeous beyond words. The hotel is SO small. Five bungalows! It felt cozy and wonderful. Some nights we ate on the beach in a candlelit dinner for 2 or sat at the bar playing cards and chatting with other guests drinking beer. We stayed for 5 nights and wish it could have been more! I also loved that the hotel suites all speeds. We would go adventuring during the day. (ATVS, horseback riding, surfing. I recommend having an ATV the whole time and explorIng montezuma and the waterfalls and the little town of cabuya) and then relax at night. But,if you just want to stay in the property there is enough to do for those travelers as well. The hardest part about leaving for us were saying goodbye to the WONDERFUL and sweet dogs the hotel takes care of. Carmella would swim in tide pools with us, walk along the beach with us, even curl up at our feet. They are sweet as can be and we grew very attached to our temporary dog. She even tried to climb in the cab with us when we were leaving. Please give her a kiss from Meredith and Wyatt. :). I’ve been to this area five times and hands down my favorite hotel. Book it! You won’t regret!!
My wife and I just returned from 3 days at Latitude 10 and we can't stop raving to our friends and family (and strangers) about it. With only 5 open air "casitas," we are now worried telling too many people about this gem on the Nikoya Peninsula will backfire and we will never be able to reserve an available room there again. First, each suite is perfectly appointed (albeit in a minimalist/eco/high end glamping style) including an outdoor bathroom and shower (loved this!). Granted, this "open to the world" set up may not suit everyone, but for us, living and sleeping so close and connected to nature was a huge part of what made this such a unique and wonderful experience. The common areas of the resort are just as beautiful and put together, and the resort offers a surprisingly large amount of space considering how few guests are lodged at any given time. The resort is in the jungle but also right on the beach which offers some of the most spectacular sunsets we've seen. Last but not at all least...the staff. Not only are they extremely personable, polite, knowledgeable and genuinely interested in guests having a great time, they also take care of any travel need or question you have. It's a level of being taken care of that even the highest end places in the world don't provide. Gracias Daniel y Laura!
Seriously we are so thankful to such a professional and curtious staff!! We instantly felt welcome and sooo comfortable - Laura and Douglas are 2 of the best Hosts that a resort could ever acquire....the food is simply perfection. Each meal is designed with local, sustainable, and fresh product. Each dish is built with culinary knowledge and skill.
The cabanas are perfect. The breezes create a peaceful and luxurious rest, the outdoor shower is calming and pure serenity.
We received a massage that was better than any I have ever received on any level / style.
The Beach is pure serenity and beauty...the most glorious sunsets every evening!
The best part being the amazing local dogs who make Latitude 10 their home...they are the perfect canine hosts !!!!
You will feel safe and you will be able to let all of your personal stress fade away....the pure beauty of Latitude 10 will leave you so grateful for a chance to become part of true Costa Rican elegance ❤️🤘🏼
From the super warm welcome from Dániel, Douglas and Maria-Jose (and the rest of the team) to the beautiful beaches, from the wonderful food (steaks with chimichuri, breakfast burritos so much more) to the spectacular sunsets, from the unique and amazing rooms to the warmth and loveliness of our yoga guide Alejandra. This was an amazing 6 nights which have opened our eyes and hearts to so much. Thank you all 🇨🇷❤️
My wife and I were guests at the Latitude 10 Resort in Santa Teresa earlier this month for our honeymoon and had a great experience! The Staff were excellent, courteous, knowledgeable (1 gentlemen even knew more about the whale migration than the tour we attended), and helpful. Though there were other options, after dining at the Hotel's restaurant the first night, we chosen to eat at the same restaurant every night of our stay. There was a set menu, but a variety of food choices. We sampled several options and all were heathy choices, well flavoured and excellent (Try the cheesy mashed potatoes, to die for!!) September is quoted as the rainy season on the Pacific coast, however, we found most days to be full of sunshine, with late afternoon and evening showers. The rooms are separate and private and are open air (as noted by Latitude 10). We found this to be a great experience and the evening rains served to cool the rooms nicely. We fell asleep with the sound of rain drops and were awakened by Howler monkeys as the sun rose! Simply awesome!
In several other locations in Costa Rica, we had difficulty connecting to the internet or our hotel Wifis. This was not the case at Latitude 10. Their Wifi was excellent and available in the rooms.
There is no Ocean swimming at the beach in front of Latitude 10 as there are too many rocks, but swimmable beaches are not overly far away in either direction.
Latitude 10 is a bit of a distance from the main centre of Santa Teresa and the quoted cab ride was $30 USD. We never elected to take it, but those looking for variety should be aware or drive their own vehicle. The Hotel does provide free bikes.
The road from the Puntarenas-Paquera ferry to Cabana is paved and in good condition, however from Cabana to Santa Teresa is a dirt road and depending on the rain in rough shape with several potholes. Its slow going to get there, but worth the drive in our opinion. Thank you Latitude 10.
