How to Get There
Vacation called fast and furiously this year, and after a whirlwind amount of beach/spa/chill research, I booked a stay at Matachica. The journey here, especially the last part by small flight and speed boat, was a fabulous introduction to island life. The property is gorgeous, pool amazing, food delicious and the room probably one of the nicest resort rooms I have ever stayed in (bed was divine, and turn down service with the lit incense is a must). Favourite part was the freedom to take a sea kayak out to the reef and snorkel on my own, where I met nurse sharks, sting rays, an array of fish and even a barracuda. Definitely recommend as either a romantic getaway, or a solo trip as I did to unwind and relax.
My husband and I traveled to Matachica on the recommendation of our travel agent. We wanted a relaxing vacation but didn't have a location in mind. We were so happy with our stay! We are pretty much bums on beach vacations and just like to lay in the sun, drink some drinks and relax. Matachica and Belize were perfect. We would usually take our golf cart (really a must in Belize) and adventure in the morning then usually return to the pool in the afternoon. The service was all great. They really make an effort to learn your names and what you might like for meals/drinks. Some who were locals were happy to give suggestions on adventures or restaurants for the day. I loved Jordy who was more than happy to look at every single lizard with me. He would always answer our questions on the area and the history of Belize. Alfred was mainly our server for the beginning of the week. We got to know him a little bit and my hubby loved the nickname he gave him. Robin was our server for the second half of the week. He was always happy to greet us and gave excellent service. After we got to know him a little better, it was fun to hear his story also. Adam the bartender was also amazing and my husband really enjoyed him. We really enjoyed our stay. We hope Belize stays just as it is!
My husband and I travelled to Belize July 13-17 and we so enjoyed our stay at Matachica. I was taking advantage of a week off before starting a new job and wanted a relaxing trip to just “reset.” Matachica was perfect! The grounds were beautiful and clean and we enjoyed having a private casita all to ourselves. The pool was fabulous and the staff made sure you had everything you needed. We ate at the restaurant most nights and never had a disappointing meal. There’s no phones or TVs in the room, and WiFi is technically only in the main building (but we could sometimes get coverage in our room), so it truly was a great vacation to chill out, reconnect with my husband and relax. The beach at the hotel was so-so on our visit due to the sargasm, but the staff was always out there shoveling it up and frankly there’s just not much they can do about it. Just beyond the shoreline though, the water is crystal blue. The hotel also has golf carts to rent so you can drive over to secret beach for a more lively beach scene (and no sargasm). We loved our stay and our only complaint is that our trip was too short! :)
