Overview

The Review

Chabil Mar takes advantage of its location at the end of southern Belize’s Placencia Peninsula to show off a very different side of the Caribbean coastline. A short, 30-minute flight from Belize City, the resort is inspired by its little-explored tropical setting, infusing it in every aspect of the 22-villa property. The friendly staff is there to welcome you at Placencia Airport, just as cool towels and sweet icy drinks greet you on arrival at the hotel — perfect aids for the transition to beachside relaxation.

The 22 one- and two-bedroom villas are uniformly spacious at 850 and 950 square feet, respectively, and all are individually decorated in a sunny tropical style with bright local artwork and Belizean wood. {“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2930/prop-97802-1339096649-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The on-site Cafe Mar restaurant serves delicious Belizean cuisine in a breezy setting.”}All the modern amenities are present, including kitchens with dark wood cabinets, separate living areas, free WiFi and laundry facilities. Best of all, the villas have private verandas overlooking the grounds or the Caribbean Sea.

Sun-seekers and romancing couples make up the majority of the guests here, and most are content to spend their time by the pool or on lounge chairs along the private 400-foot stretch of sand. The beautiful sea is impossible to resist for too long, however, and kayaks are available for guests. Head out along the beach to the mangrove lagoon in search of the resident manatees, who appear as laid-back as you’ll feel while paddling past the shoreline.

Back on dry land, the on-site restaurant offers both an extensive menu and multiple dining options. I enjoyed a breakfast of golden fry jacks on my private deck and lunch of shrimp ceviche near the pool. Any evening meal, whether it’s simple seafood chowder or grilled fresh lobster, is romantic when it’s specially prepared out on the pier.

The remote setting, at the end of Placencia’s skinny peninsula, can feel as though you’re at the end of the world, but Placencia village is just a short stroll or bike ride along the beach. Once a quiet fishing village, today it has eclectic art galleries, souvenir shops and a few options for sampling sweet gelato. If you’re spotted by an off-duty staffer from Chabil Mar, as I was, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted like an old friend and offered a lift back to your new favorite beachfront hideaway.

Chabil Mar - beautiful relaxing resort.
Reviewed 20 hours ago

I am a solo traveler and picked Placencia and Chabil Mar for a short get-away because it looked like a nice safe place to stay. I also wanted a place where I could sign up for a couple of group tours. I'm happy to say that it is a nice safe place to stay and I was able to visit Monkey River and take a chocolate and spice tour. I also had a massage on the beach (a bucket list item checked.)
The staff was very friendly and I enjoyed happy hour and chatting with fellow guests at the bar next to my room. I stayed in room 11 which had some beautiful bright Mayan art. The rooms are well-furnished apartments. The walk into town was an easy 15 minutes. (The hotel also offers a shuttle.) The only problem was that the week in May that I visited was very hot - I think I would pick another month to visit if I go back. I also walked over to the Turtle Inn one evening for dinner. The Turtle Inn also looked nice and would offer a different experience with screened in rooms that would connect you more to the outside world. I left with the sense that I really liked the people and the country. And I left more relaxed than when I came. So goal accomplished. A great place to stay if you don't mind sharing your porch with the occasional iguana.

What a fabulous resort!! We knew we were in for a treat from the moment we were picked up at the airport with cool wash clothes and bottled water and then greeted at the front gate with a special welcome drink and friendly smiles! We stayed here for 7 days in June and could not be more happy! Everything from the room to the staff was top-notch! Chris, the general manager of the property, is doing a fantastic job managing the property,,.and let me tell you the staff can't be beat! Everyone from Natalie and Jordan helping us make plans over the phone before we ever left Texas, to Sheldon helping us book excursions once we got there. Duane and all the guys at the bar made the most awesome frozen drinks with fresh fruits that we all enjoy (virgin, of course, for the boys). Duane also let our son borrow his fishing rod to fish off the peer...and he loved that!! Nakkita was so friendly and had the sweetest disposition and always willing to help any questions we had. George at the front desk was very helpful, too. I'm sure I am forgetting a some names, but let me just say that everyone plays a very important role and takes great pride in their job. The housekeeping staff is impeccable and grounds are beyond gorgeous. The location of this resort is ideal. 3 minutes from the Placencia airport and 3 minutes into the main part of town. The rooms are nicely appointed and all seem to have a pretty good view. There are so many great activities to explore in/around Placencia...from jungle tours to deep sea fishing to scuba diving...this place is truly a hidden gem! Ohhhhh....and the kitchen staff! Amazing! We caught our own lobsters, snappers and jack fish and the kitchen cooked up some of the absolutely most scrumptious meals for us using our freshly caught fish. What is neat about Chabil Mar is that there is no "real restaurant" on the property, but rather the amazing kitchen staff cooks fabulous meals and delivers them to wherever you'd like....delivered to your room, OK...delivered to the tables on the pier, OK...delivered to your patio overlooking the ocean, OK...delivered to the bar area, OK...delivered pool side, OK. You name it! Everything we ate a Chabil Mar was EXCELLENT! Also, don't pass up the opportunity to get a massage on the beach! Thanks for taking care of the Mize Family! We will be back!

I spent a lot of time researching a good spot for myself and my 7 yr old daughter (mom daughter trip and her first time out of the US!). Overall Belize was a fantastic spot. We spent 3 nights at Ian Anderson (also great) then 2 nights at Chabil Mar. It could not have been a better place to stay. I cannot wait to return with the rest of the family! The location, for us, was ideal. You can rent a golf cart and drive to town like 3 minutes, or you can walk, take a morning jog. The beach is steps from your condo, 2 gorgeous pools perfect for kids or light laps, great temperature. The staff are super attentive, kind, helpful, easy going. They will book any trips or excursions you want to take. FOOD is amazing! You can eat anywhere on the property you like for any meal! Wow!

The rooms are really beautiful and super comfortable. Would be great for a honeymoon or a family vacation. It's overall just a stunningly gorgeous resort/hotel/location. Also free bike and kayak rentals!

Totally recommend staying here was GREAT! (and 5 min drive from local airport so super easy to get to from BZE).

Thank you so much Chabil Mar! We can't wait to come back!

Amazing Stay!

From the moment we were picked up at the Placencia airport we were embraced and “wow”-ed by the wonderful and friendly staff at Chabil Mar. Our 2 BR/2 bath villa was beautiful and worked great for our family of 4 (2 adults and a 9 and 6 yo). Having a washer and dryer in the villa was very helpful. The manicured grounds and two pools are beautiful. The location near the airport and close to the town were also pluses. The shuttle to town from 4p to 10p was also very convenient. However, the service from all of the staff as well as the food were all outstanding such that if you wanted to dine in, you won’t be disappointed! We were able to go on several excursions while at Chabil Mar and were picked up and dropped off at the resort. We cannot wait to return again and can’t say enough wonderful things about Chabil Mar!

Such a cozy and quiet spot on the beach

The staff and location are fabulous. Rooms are well appointed, spacious, and comfortable. They are like mini serviced villas that are in front of the pool or beach. It is a short bike ride or complimentary shuttle to town. Nice big pools to swim in, great views, and comfortable beach. Natalie was a lifesaver by booking a late shuttle for me. We found everyone so friendly and accommodating.
