The Review

Chabil Mar takes advantage of its location at the end of southern Belize’s Placencia Peninsula to show off a very different side of the Caribbean coastline. A short, 30-minute flight from Belize City, the resort is inspired by its little-explored tropical setting, infusing it in every aspect of the 22-villa property. The friendly staff is there to welcome you at Placencia Airport, just as cool towels and sweet icy drinks greet you on arrival at the hotel — perfect aids for the transition to beachside relaxation.

The 22 one- and two-bedroom villas are uniformly spacious at 850 and 950 square feet, respectively, and all are individually decorated in a sunny tropical style with bright local artwork and Belizean wood. {“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2930/prop-97802-1339096649-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The on-site Cafe Mar restaurant serves delicious Belizean cuisine in a breezy setting.”}All the modern amenities are present, including kitchens with dark wood cabinets, separate living areas, free WiFi and laundry facilities. Best of all, the villas have private verandas overlooking the grounds or the Caribbean Sea.

Sun-seekers and romancing couples make up the majority of the guests here, and most are content to spend their time by the pool or on lounge chairs along the private 400-foot stretch of sand. The beautiful sea is impossible to resist for too long, however, and kayaks are available for guests. Head out along the beach to the mangrove lagoon in search of the resident manatees, who appear as laid-back as you’ll feel while paddling past the shoreline.

Back on dry land, the on-site restaurant offers both an extensive menu and multiple dining options. I enjoyed a breakfast of golden fry jacks on my private deck and lunch of shrimp ceviche near the pool. Any evening meal, whether it’s simple seafood chowder or grilled fresh lobster, is romantic when it’s specially prepared out on the pier.

The remote setting, at the end of Placencia’s skinny peninsula, can feel as though you’re at the end of the world, but Placencia village is just a short stroll or bike ride along the beach. Once a quiet fishing village, today it has eclectic art galleries, souvenir shops and a few options for sampling sweet gelato. If you’re spotted by an off-duty staffer from Chabil Mar, as I was, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted like an old friend and offered a lift back to your new favorite beachfront hideaway.

Chabil Mar is more than a resort. It's your home away from home. The villas are all beautiful and decorated differently with stunning views of the water. The landscape is just incredible and consist of numerous plants all native to Belize. The location is perfect for those who like to take a quick bike ride to the village. The resort also offers a shuttle daily from 4pm to 10pm which was perfect for us to do some shopping and try out some local restaurant.

But what really impressed me about Chabil Mar is the staff and the service. Chris, the General Manager, is on top of things at all time. He's very attentive to everything that happens around the resort and always interacted with all the guests around the resort to make sure everything was run 100%. Nikita is the concierge and she is absolutely amazing and will make anything happen to make your wishes come true, whether you want to book a massage, a tour, etc.. Morris is usually at the bar serving you the best cocktails of the day and when he's not there, he's probably setting up the dining tables, decorating them to wow you when you dine there. Every person working here always knows what's going on and it was very nice to see the great relationship between the staff and the management.

The food is absolutely some of the best you can find in Placencia. Chef Daniel loves decorating every dish, especially fruit. One night he built a pirate ship out of a watermelon!

Chabil Mar is the place where you feel like a guest when you arrive and as family when you leave. Thank you for the wonderful experience. See you soon!!!

From the moment we arrived at the hotel until the moment we left the staff was amazing! We felt like we were in our own little village or community. Our Sea side villa was everything we could ask for and more. Any thing you needed from the bottle opener to a washer and dryer are available in each unit. The maid service was excellent and a pleasure to speak with the ladies as they tidy up our rooms. I had my 23 year old son with me and he was never bored. From a nap in the hammock to kayaks and paddle boards, the hotel offered several activities. We rented a golf cart so we could run to town which is just a mile down the road. There is also a side walk but we preferred the cart :) Thank you to Morris, De Shaun ( spelling? ) Chris the GM, Nikita the concierge, and all the other staff that made our trip great! We will see you again !

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chabil Mar!

We spent four wonderful nights at Chabil Mar and absolutely loved it.

First of all, the property itself is gorgeous, with its beautiful landscaping of local plants and flowers, and its white terra-cotta roofed villas covered with bougainvillea. With only 19 villas on site, the resort has a very cozy and welcoming vibe, with the walk to and from your villa to the pools, the beach, the bar, or the lobby being only steps away.

From check in to check out, the Chabil Mar staff went above and beyond to make sure that all of our needs were met. We were particularly struck by how personable and welcoming all of the staff were at all times during our stay. General manager Chris and concierge Nikita were always available to assist with anything we needed, from golf cart rental to recommendations for dinner in town. Morris, Deshaun and Dewayne provided us with many laughs and delicious cocktails at the bar and by the pool. We were so impressed by the high level of customer service and personal attention to detail all of the staff provided during our stay.

Our seafront villa was beautifully appointed with many comforts of home, such as a kitchenette and washer/dryer, super comfy bed and soft linens. We were so sad to leave at the end of our stay!

One of my favorite things about this property is the lack of a formal restaurant- instead, the Chabil Mar staff will set up your meal anywhere on the property that you wish at any time you desire- in your room, on your deck, by the pool, or on the pier overlooking the sea. Anything you want, they will make it happen. We ate most of our meals on property, and the food that Chef Daniel prepared was delicious, with a focus on local Belizean cuisine. You also can bring in your own food and drinks from outside to enjoy in your villa with no problem.

The only downside to our stay at was that we were only there for four short nights. We will definitely return to Placencia and the Chabil Mar for a longer stay on our next trip to Belize.

A Little Slice of Paradise

Spent four wonderful nights at Chabil Mar in Placencia. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by beautiful Nakita who helped with any request we had. Plus the ever present manager, Chris who worked with his team to be sure everything was spot on at all times.

All rooms are villa style and are complete with kitchens, washer dryers and all the items you would need to make your stay feel like home. Comfy beds and lots of space to spread out and relax. Terra cotta roofs, climbing flowers, sweeping ocean views, and beautiful landscape make this resort absolutely picturesque.

There is no restaurant on property, but the staff makes a point to explain they will make you meals whenever you need them and you can dine anywhere on property you like. The pier, poolside, your own verandah, or inside your villa. The chef did not cease to amaze us with his skill for cooking mouthwatering meals.

There is a small bar with great staff. Deshaun and Dwayne always meet us with a smile, a greeting and a recommendation for a cocktail.

There are two pools that are beautiful with views of the ocean and plenty of space to spread out.

The resort provides transportation to and from the town where you can find amazing little restaurants and fun bars. They also provide bicycles if you prefer to pedal the mile or so.

This resort would be perfect for families or couples with multiple bedroom, plus just a few miles from the Placencia air strip make it easy to get to.

Great trip to Placencia

The Chabil Mar is an incredible resort. For a hotel with no restaurant they have amazing food. We were there in the middle of hurricane season, but we spent tons of time lounging in the sun and swimming in the pools. Nikita was outstanding and the General Manager Chris made sure every need or whim we had were immediately taken care of. The villas were all beautifully appointed and stocked with everything we needed. The resort is a hacienda style resort laid out on the beach with an amazing pier. In the rainy season be sure and bring bug spray, you are in the tropics after all!
