Overview

The Review

Chabil Mar takes advantage of its location at the end of southern Belize’s Placencia Peninsula to show off a very different side of the Caribbean coastline. A short, 30-minute flight from Belize City, the resort is inspired by its little-explored tropical setting, infusing it in every aspect of the 22-villa property. The friendly staff is there to welcome you at Placencia Airport, just as cool towels and sweet icy drinks greet you on arrival at the hotel — perfect aids for the transition to beachside relaxation.

The 22 one- and two-bedroom villas are uniformly spacious at 850 and 950 square feet, respectively, and all are individually decorated in a sunny tropical style with bright local artwork and Belizean wood. {“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2930/prop-97802-1339096649-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The on-site Cafe Mar restaurant serves delicious Belizean cuisine in a breezy setting.”}All the modern amenities are present, including kitchens with dark wood cabinets, separate living areas, free WiFi and laundry facilities. Best of all, the villas have private verandas overlooking the grounds or the Caribbean Sea.

Sun-seekers and romancing couples make up the majority of the guests here, and most are content to spend their time by the pool or on lounge chairs along the private 400-foot stretch of sand. The beautiful sea is impossible to resist for too long, however, and kayaks are available for guests. Head out along the beach to the mangrove lagoon in search of the resident manatees, who appear as laid-back as you’ll feel while paddling past the shoreline.

Back on dry land, the on-site restaurant offers both an extensive menu and multiple dining options. I enjoyed a breakfast of golden fry jacks on my private deck and lunch of shrimp ceviche near the pool. Any evening meal, whether it’s simple seafood chowder or grilled fresh lobster, is romantic when it’s specially prepared out on the pier.

The remote setting, at the end of Placencia’s skinny peninsula, can feel as though you’re at the end of the world, but Placencia village is just a short stroll or bike ride along the beach. Once a quiet fishing village, today it has eclectic art galleries, souvenir shops and a few options for sampling sweet gelato. If you’re spotted by an off-duty staffer from Chabil Mar, as I was, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted like an old friend and offered a lift back to your new favorite beachfront hideaway.

Remarkable service

My husband and 3 daughters (14, 14, and 11) just returned from a week at Chabil Mar. We stayed in the beautiful Villa 19. The hotel staff is some of the best we have ever experienced. I have to mention Duane, Oscar, and the wonderful housekeeping staff (I believe we had Avita?). Duane was friendly and a great conversationalist, Oscar was always there when needed and incredibly nice, and we had the cleanest room ever in a hotel. The employees work hard and it shows...even to the gentleman raking the sand to make it look pristine! Please consider Chabil Mar. Safe, friendly, quiet, and a true gem in beautiful Placencia.

Topnotch Stay

I can't say enough about our stay at Chabil Mar last month!! The property is gorgeous, the food was great and the staff was amazing!! Our room was spotless, the breakfasts that we had delivered were delicious, the drinks at the bar were fantastic and the pools were uncrowded. The nightly shuttle that runs to town each evening was so convenient, as were the bicycles and golf cart rentals right on site. We booked a Monkey River Tour through Nikita, the concierge, which was a lot of fun and easy. Sheldon set up our snorkeling trip to Silk Caye which was awesome as well...I would highly recommend it. Finally, I have to mention Alex who took care of us at the pool and made sure we were comfortable and had beverages from the bar!! Everyone was delightful to talk to and very helpful. We will definitely be back!!

Wonderful trip!

My husband and our 3 daughters (21 to 23 yrs old) spent 5 great daydays in Placencia at the Chabil Mar resort. The accommodations and service were outstanding! Nikita, the concierge took care of our every request from excursions to dinner reservations with a big smile and prompt service. The bar was fun and the drinks were delicious and freshly made. Duane, the bartender was always ready to make you one of his special drink creations to enjoy and was delighted to share interesting facts about Belize or challenge you to a brain game puzzle to think about while you sipped your drink. The entire staff was cheerful and always ready to make sure your needs were being served! All in all a relaxing fun trip for all!

Beautiful, serene, and relaxing hotel on the beach

I found Chabil Mar on Trip Advisor and booked them for a spring break trip to Belize. We stepped off the plane in Placencia to find Rayan standing there holding a sign with our names on it and a tray of cold, wet towels. He whisked away our luggage before we loaded into the Mercedes van and we were headed to the hotel. When we got out of the van at the hotel, a man appeared holding a tray with four glasses of fruit drink, a bottle of rum and chocolates. We gratefully accepted the rum drink that we sipped as we were given a tour of the property. There were two pools, a bar, outdoor dining, the beach lounge chairs and the beautiful pier stretching into the ocean. We were then shown to our two bedroom, two bath villa which was comfortably furnished.

Our first day on the beach was delightful. Anselmo brought us drinks and lunch. The service was impeccable and Anselmo was eager to bring us whatever we asked for. The ceviche at the hotel was delicious and fresh.

Our second night in Placencia we had eaten dinner in the village. My daughter got food poisoning from dinner. I called the front desk and Nikita was so helpful calling the doctor for us. Lacho was so sweet to drive us the short drive to the doctor and waited for us while my daughter was being treated by the doctor. He then drove my friend to the store so we could get Pedialyte. The following afternoon, as we headed out to the beach to get some fresh air, we passed Lacho and he asked if my daughter was feeling better. The staff at the hotel was kind, helpful, and just so nice. Sheldon had booked a snorkel outing for us but we could not go because my daughter was sick. He was so kind to call the company and get it cancelled.

One day we rented a golf cart and had fun in the village. Two of the days we rode the bikes into the village.

My friend and her daughter went to dinner one night and my friend tripped outside of the villa. I came outside to find her on her back on the walking path and the security guard standing over her and holding her purse. The Belizean people were all so very nice - everywhere we went.

I highly recommend Chabil Mar and want to go again. It has beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff and outstanding service.

Relaxing Stay with Family
Reviewed 1 week ago

After spending four days with the family in the mountain pine ridge forest, Chabil Mar was a great and relaxing way to conclude our trip to Belize. We loved the small size of the resort along with the kid friendly pools and great attention from the staff. Dwane at the bar is by far their best asset, he is always courteous, helpful and has the most positive attitude. He is a great asset!. The villas are spacious, very well kept by each owner and are always kept nice and clean by the housekeeping staff.
My negatives about the resort was the quality of the food. While we really liked the ability to pick where we wanted to eat from our villa, balcony, pier or by the beach; we felt that the menu and quality of most of the stuff with the exception of the fish of the day plate was lacking in taste and overall quality...especially given their prices. After eating at the bar and dining on the beach the first day, we made it a point to eat which gave us the opportunity to find places such as De Tatch - great for breakfast and lunch and Wendy's Creole restaurant for dinner and Tuti Frutti for gelatos.

Also, the wifi is really weak the further you stay from the main office. We stayed in Villa 4 and I'm glad we had the international plan otherwise, we would have not had any access to Wifi.
