Overview

The Review

Chabil Mar takes advantage of its location at the end of southern Belize’s Placencia Peninsula to show off a very different side of the Caribbean coastline. A short, 30-minute flight from Belize City, the resort is inspired by its little-explored tropical setting, infusing it in every aspect of the 22-villa property. The friendly staff is there to welcome you at Placencia Airport, just as cool towels and sweet icy drinks greet you on arrival at the hotel — perfect aids for the transition to beachside relaxation.

The 22 one- and two-bedroom villas are uniformly spacious at 850 and 950 square feet, respectively, and all are individually decorated in a sunny tropical style with bright local artwork and Belizean wood. {“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2930/prop-97802-1339096649-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The on-site Cafe Mar restaurant serves delicious Belizean cuisine in a breezy setting.”}All the modern amenities are present, including kitchens with dark wood cabinets, separate living areas, free WiFi and laundry facilities. Best of all, the villas have private verandas overlooking the grounds or the Caribbean Sea.

Sun-seekers and romancing couples make up the majority of the guests here, and most are content to spend their time by the pool or on lounge chairs along the private 400-foot stretch of sand. The beautiful sea is impossible to resist for too long, however, and kayaks are available for guests. Head out along the beach to the mangrove lagoon in search of the resident manatees, who appear as laid-back as you’ll feel while paddling past the shoreline.

Back on dry land, the on-site restaurant offers both an extensive menu and multiple dining options. I enjoyed a breakfast of golden fry jacks on my private deck and lunch of shrimp ceviche near the pool. Any evening meal, whether it’s simple seafood chowder or grilled fresh lobster, is romantic when it’s specially prepared out on the pier.

The remote setting, at the end of Placencia’s skinny peninsula, can feel as though you’re at the end of the world, but Placencia village is just a short stroll or bike ride along the beach. Once a quiet fishing village, today it has eclectic art galleries, souvenir shops and a few options for sampling sweet gelato. If you’re spotted by an off-duty staffer from Chabil Mar, as I was, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted like an old friend and offered a lift back to your new favorite beachfront hideaway.

Our Favorite Vacation Ever
Reviewed 1 week ago

My husband and I planned our destination wedding at Chabil Mar without visiting the grounds, or even the country of Belize before. I cannot emphasize enough that our stay was absolute perfection. From the staff, to the food, to the BREATHTAKING grounds, this country and its people are truly magical. We would relive our stay over and over again if we could; we will 100% be back again at Chabil and I cannot wait until we are. Our guests haven't stopped gushing about the most beautiful country they've ever visited and the most fun wedding. We are ecstatic we made this decision and wish we could relive the trip all over again.

Don't forget to venture into town and eat at the local restaurants, too- they are fantastic!!!

Magical beachfront spot

Chabil Mar is a magical spot right on the beach. Everyone associated with this resort went out of their way to ensure our comfort and pleasure. What was specially noted was that many of the employees had started out in other roles years ago and had steadily been promoted and moved around to different functions. This says a lot about the type of management in place and ensures employee satisfaction, which is evident in the way they treat their guests. It's a beautiful, tropical place with access to many activities if desired. And if not desired, I can't think of many better ways to spend an afternoon than in a hammock on the deck, reading a good book and watching the sea.

Personal service, new friends, favorite

What an amazing place. From the time we scheduled our trip, we felt like we were the only visitors. Personalized service from food, drink, outings, everything and everyone was the best. I travel a lot around the world and I can not wait to share this piece of Belize with more friends.

A Most Beautiful Vacation

Starting with people at registration, everything is a smile. Hotel is beautiful, landscaping mature and colorful, we stayed at unitb16, beautiful sea view and size perfect. Everything was in there, dining tables, one in the veranda anther inside, a hall, two bathrooms, very convenient, two Tvs. We'll come back for sure.

Relaxing, beautiful boutique hotel

The grounds, rooms, and staff are absolutely wonderful! We had a very relaxing 3-night stay. The partial sea view room was beautiful, and the view from our patio was very nice. The french toast breakfast (delivered right to our patio) was absolutely spectacular, and the bed was quite possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept on! The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and there was always someone available if you wanted anything (but they weren't pushy or intrusive, which was much-appreciated). The beach is well-maintained, but there was a decent amount of sea grass near the shore due to some recent weather. A quick walk to the end of the dock took care of that though! You can use the kayaks and paddle boards for a nice trip out to the mangroves at the end of the peninsula. The walk to the village is along a somewhat busy road (at least busier than I was expecting) with no sidewalk, but you can ride bikes, rent a golf cart, or take the shuttle the 1/2 mile or so into the village; very easy! I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a calm, relaxing trip to the truly wonderful little village of Placencia.
