Romance-seekers and nature lovers will relish a stay at Mahogany Hall, which is noted for its intimate size and quiet, away-from-it-all vibe. Rooms and suites are individually decorated with artworks celebrating local wildlife, while many rooms offer lush mountain views. There are luxurious touches, like Jacuzzi tubs and in-room massages on offer, while meals at Rico’s restaurant feature local, organic produce.
In the Area
Mahogany Hall is situated on the lovely Mopan River, near the hamlet of Bullet Tree Falls. It’s well located for a day trip to the ancient Mayan site of Tikal, Caracol, Xunantunich, or to Cahal Pech, another significant Mayan site as well as the famous Actun Tunichil Muknal. The hotel can suggest hiking routes or arrange regional flights within Belize. But the main allure of Mahogany Hall is its quiet tempo, and many guests prefer to while away the day by the pool, in a hammock or Adirondack chair by the river, or playing a low key game of beach volleyball on the lawn.
How to Get There
This place doesn't miss a beat. From a cold towel and great cocktail upon arrival to help setting up tours and taxis, we couldn't have felt more welcome. Richard, the owner, and Marsha, the manager, have clearly gone through lengths to go the extra mile. Definitely eat here; the food is incredible! You just have to make a reservation. The servers, Jose and unfortunately I forgot the other guy's name, knew what I wanted before I knew. Excellent service during meals and conversations about life in Belize. The river is the perfect temperature with some fun rapids right out front. I rather enjoyed being able to share the river with the locals. We also went tubing with a local kid; what a relaxing way to cool off during the day. This is a little way from San Ignacio, so if you don't have a car, you'll have to cab it to/from town. Totally worth it to chill by the river, see the stars, and hear the howler monkeys. It's a little slice of heaven on the Mopan river. Thank you!
A small boutique hotel, that seems as though it was built years ago , but is only a few years old. built and run very efficiently by a man from New Orleans, it captures the atmosphere that you want., the food was excellent, sitting out on the patio overlooking the river.. The rooms were fairly basic clean with modern bathroom. but provided everything you needed and were off a large shared veranda with tables and chairs and internet connections. The photos do not do it justice. make sure you do the horseback ride.
Where do we start with how great Mahogany Hall is...? We booked this place thinking it looked nicer and likely more relaxing than the other locations in San Ignacio. We were greeted when we pulled up and the staff took our bags and directed us where to park. We had a seat at the quant little bar and were given a cool washcloth and the bartender started making us a delicious frozen local welcome cocktail. He then told us a bit about the property as we enjoyed our drink and asked if we’d like to have dinner tonight. As it turns out we were the only guests, not just tonight but our complete four day stay. They had two dinner options and prepared a fantastic three course meal which we ate by the waterfall pool with tiki torches while listening to the river. We also had many great breakfasts and would highly recommend the coconut waffles and Rico’s omelette. They had our table set just for us including decorative petals! Our room was clean and the view and sounds of the river and natural jungle noises were so relaxing. We read books in the hammocks and felt relaxed and catered to around every corner. Everyone was helpful and we were appreciative of their tourism advice. We met the owner Richard and had some nice conversation and advice on activity’s. He also organized a relaxing river tube down the Mopan river (which is right in the front of the property) with a young local named Christian who had tubes and river knowledge. We were picked up at another area resort by Richard and paid a small charge to Christian for his time. The rooms are beautiful and the AC is must. Property is amazing, service is friendly and fantastic, 10 minutes to San Ignacio, this place is perfect for your stay outside San Ignacio and I’d recommend it to anyone.
We loved Mahogany Hall! Not only are the rooms, staff, and views amazing, but we loved the riverfront activity on the weekend when you really get a sense of Belizean family culture. It was wonderful to take a swim and see the enjoyment everyone gets from this beautiful river. Dinner was superb -- and meeting the owner Richard and learning of his commitment to Bullet Tree Falls made our stay even more meaningful. If you want a sterile, soul-less resort, stay home --- but if you want a lovely property with incredible attention to detail as well as a sense of the local community, this is the place.
We had a phenomenal experience at Mahogany Hall with our family sharing the Monkey Room on the top floor overlooking the Mopan River. We booked three tours (Tikal in Guatamala, ATM The cave tour), and Xuantunich. Marcia and Jose took such great care of us that we felt like family, and all the tours worked seamlessly for us in terms of pick up and drop off. Our room was a wonder of beautiful dark mahogany, and the bathroom even had a gigantic tub. We enjoyed splashing in the river and tubing a bit, although the current was pretty brisk. We had marvelous breakfast and dinners, plus some delicious margaritas at the bar. You will feel a little odd finding your way down the bumpy, dirt road, but it's all worth it when you arrive! A+. Enjoy!
