How to Get There
We were told that Ka'ana means "heavenly place" in Mayan, and the words aptly describe this lovely boutique hotel near San Ignacio, Belize. We were so impressed with the friendly staff and clean, cool, well appointed casitas (think Belizean chic) that we extended our stay more than once! The location is perfect; only minutes from town and close to many attractions. The beautiful landscaping, pool and spa were exactly what we'd hoped for. I was thrilled to have a room with a private backyard and outdoor shower! The restaurant and bar areas had a great "vibe" and the food and service-excellent! We'll be back!.
My second trip to Ka'ana this time with family was relaxing and enjoyable. We took the mixology class which was lot of fun - our best drink was the Mango spicy Margarita! The Ceviche was awesome for lunch and dinner. we took horseback riding to Xunantunich and that was the highlight of the trip. The Spa therapists were very good. Definitely a must for someone to explore the rain forests and visit Mayan ruins.
We visited Ka’ana for two nights in early August and stayed in a Balsam room. The room and grounds were really nice and the food at the restaurant was good. What really made Ka’ana a great experience was the little things, and especially the staff. Miguel, Collins, Keith, Nubia, and Wolfgang were all so friendly, welcoming, and engaging. The yoga deck dinner we did was uniquely memorable and the French press coffee and breakfast every morning was great. Ka’ana is very well run and a great place to stay. We would most certainly stay here again when we come back to Belize, which I hope is sooner rather than later!
The service by the staff is nothing short of exceptional. Our every beck and call was met with a friendly fast response. The staff was just amazing. The attention they show their guests was remarkable. The grounds of Ka'ana are meticulously kept. The food was absolutely delicious. We ate breakfast there every morning and had dinner there twice during our 3 night stay. It happened to be bbq night one evening and my short ribs melted in my mouth- really, really good! I give the staff 5 stars, the grounds 5 stars and the room 4 stars due to barely any water coming out of the shower head and an extremely loud and creaky bed frame which made it difficult to sleep. My complaints are very minor and didn't take away from the beauty and service Ka'ana offered us while in San Ignacio.
We did 4 nights at Ka'ana, then 4 at Victoria House in San Pedro. Victoria House is touted as one of the nicest accommodations in Belize, but all we could think when we arrived was "we miss Ka'ana". We stayed in the villa with 1-room and a private pool and it was magical. The cultural activities in mainland Belize and Guatemala are perspective altering (Andy was an awesome tour guide). Everyone who worked at Ka'ana knew us by names and were so friendly, we got the sense that they were truly happy to be sharing their slice of heaven with us. Talking to Abi in the organic garden was enlightening. Miguel made stellar cocktails (make sure you try the Frog Prince...), and Candi made us feel more than pampered. Our deep tissue massages were the best we've ever received-and we get a lot of massages in SF, NY, and Napa Valley (my massage was with Anisa but my husband doesn't remember the name of his masseuse). This was the best way to close out our week of wedding festivities and we can't recommend it more.
