Overview

Family-friendly suites with apartment-style amenities and Philippe Starck furnishings in Barcelona's Eixample district

The Lowdown

From the living room–style reception area (outfitted with armchairs and a fireplace) to the 11 spacious suites, equipped with kitchens and dining tables, Splendom Suites provides a cozy home away from home in Barcelona’s Eixample district. The one- or two-bedroom apartments are each tricked out with an open-plan living/dining room (plus a double sofabed) and a well-equipped modern kitchen. The decor errs on the minimalist side: think Philippe Starck furniture, mirrored tables and neutral tones, and petite tiled bathrooms that offer power showers and Molton Brown toiletries. All come with a balcony or a terra-cotta-tile terrace for soaking up the Mediterranean rays.

In the Area

Take a five-minute walk to Calle Mallorca for the Mercat del Ninot, a brilliant food market frequented by locals and the perfect place to stock up your kitchen. Appetite sated? Then check out Barcelona’s architecture. A trip to the city isn’t complete without seeing Antonio Gaudí’s most audacious building, the Sagrada Familia Basilica. You can see some of his other works, La Pedrera and Casa Batlló on the Passieg de Gràcia. Antiques lovers should head to Muebles Ram, a treasure trove of retro furniture, mirrors and trinkets. It’s also right next door to the city’s biggest flea market, Els Encants.

Spacious and well equipped in great location
Reviewed 1 week ago

Great central location at Carrer de Valencia, 194. Apartment 202 is spacious with 2 double bedrooms and sofa bed in the lounge.
Very clean and tidy with free WiFi.
Well equipped kitchen with a Nespresso coffee machine! A little tip for using the oven - it will only work if you use the timer (turn the dial).
We arrived very early and e-mailed ahead to ask for early check in, which was arranged without any problem. The staff were very helpful.
Will definitely book again 😊

Clean apartment in good location
Reviewed 2 months ago

We’ve rented apartments in several European cities so many of the complaints sound like they come from inexperienced renters. This apartment has a washer, which is great, and no dryer. This is most common because most folks hang their clothes on a line to dry because of the cost of electricity. It also came with full set of dishes, glasses, utensils, dishwasher, cook ware, espresso machine (2 free pods), toaster, cooktop, oven, microwave, and electric kettle. Plus a bottle of wine. It also had a pack that included dishwasher tabs, washing machine soap tabs, dish soap, sponge, garbage can liner, and reusable towels for cleaning up. If you want salt, pepper, paper towels etc, you will need to walk about 5 minutes to a great super market - Mercat Del Ninot. The office for check in opens at 11 - a drawback when your flight arrives at 7 am. We stashed our bags ( we only do carry on) at a locker rental near Plaça Catalunya and hopped on the HO-HO bus, which gave a great overview and killed 3 hours. By then the office was open, and we were checked in. Two huge beds(and a couch) that were very very comfortable- we slept like babes. Shower is hot and clean (just don’t run kitchen faucet or flush). It is an apartment- so no one cleans up after you and towels need to last the whole stay. I don’t use a clean towel every day at home - if you do, consider a hotel. Location is perfect for bus or walking. Location was perfect for us - mother and daughter traveling alone.

Good location but apartment condition is bad
Reviewed 3 months ago

Our family of four stayed for four nights. We were allocated a unit at 35 Rda Universitat.

CLEANLINESS - bad. Our feet turn black after taking off our shoes for 2 mins. Informed hotel and asked for cleaning service but no response from them. In the end we have to get cloth to wipe all the flooring ourselves.

AMENITIES - moderate. No English instruction on how to operate the washer and dryer as all buttons are in Spanish. Clean towels were provided in all bedrooms. The apartment has quite comprehensive utensils available for use. They also provide detergent for your laundry. The apartment is very spacious. The key to our unit is so thin that it is difficult and painful to use when unlocking the door. We end up using the spare key with is shaped more user friendly.

CONDITION - bad. Toilet flush not working. Took them two days to finally get maintenance guy to fix it but flush not working again after use. One of the window has a missing lock so the window cannot be closed due to the wind. The noise from the Main Street downstairs becomes so loud due to the faulty window. Informed hotel when we checked in and they said will fix it. The lock is still not there when we leave the apartment after four nights stay. The sofa condition is bad. The bathtubs are turning rusty. The water pressure in one of the showers is so low which makes it difficult to shower.

LOCATION - good. The apartment is located in the heart of town. You can find Macdonalds, KFC, Italian restaurant, burger place just below the apartment. The place is accessible to most shopping outlets on foot. Very convenient. It is also easy to get taxis.

CUSTOMER SERVICE - moderate. Accommodate our early check in request but we end up checking in late due to delay at airport. Check in desk staff is friendly. We are only disappointed that our feedback and request for maintenance were not attended to promptly. We have to follow up with few phone calls.

Apartment in central location
Reviewed 4 months ago

Apartment is in a central location and within walking distance to many great tapas restaurants. However, reception is only opened until 7 pm and you would have to pay 50 euro to check in after 7 pm. Our first night we thought our heater was not working since we adjust in our room & the heater didn’t come on. It was after 7 pm so we couldn’t do anything until 11 am the next morning. Turned out there is a central remote control and we have to control the heat from that central remote control.

Apartment was not well stocked- there are enough towels for 2-3 days but if you stay longer they don’t offer towel changes. There were no paper towels in the kitchen and bathroom was provided with only 2 rolls of toilet paper. We didn’t have time to ask them if toilet paper could be replenished since opening hours 11-7 we were not in apt. The major inconvenience was the room only has washer and no dryer. We asked if the machine was a combo washer/dryer but was informed it only washes no dry. The website states they have a dryer so it was a major disappointment. We had to hang dry our clothes in the apartment.

If the apt had washer & dryer and well stocked with toilet paper & paper towels I would have rated a 5.

Nice Location

We were very happy with the location. The beds were okay but the sofa bed was one we had to report to the management. We mistakenly brought our extra key to Seville but we already mailed it back and they acknowledged it, we are still waiting for the reversal of the 100 Euro charge.
