Family-friendly suites with apartment-style amenities and Philippe Starck furnishings in Barcelona's Eixample district

The Lowdown

From the living room–style reception area (outfitted with armchairs and a fireplace) to the 11 spacious suites, equipped with kitchens and dining tables, Splendom Suites provides a cozy home away from home in Barcelona’s Eixample district. The one- or two-bedroom apartments are each tricked out with an open-plan living/dining room (plus a double sofabed) and a well-equipped modern kitchen. The decor errs on the minimalist side: think Philippe Starck furniture, mirrored tables and neutral tones, and petite tiled bathrooms that offer power showers and Molton Brown toiletries. All come with a balcony or a terra-cotta-tile terrace for soaking up the Mediterranean rays.

In the Area

Take a five-minute walk to Calle Mallorca for the Mercat del Ninot, a brilliant food market frequented by locals and the perfect place to stock up your kitchen. Appetite sated? Then check out Barcelona’s architecture. A trip to the city isn’t complete without seeing Antonio Gaudí’s most audacious building, the Sagrada Familia Basilica. You can see some of his other works, La Pedrera and Casa Batlló on the Passieg de Gràcia. Antiques lovers should head to Muebles Ram, a treasure trove of retro furniture, mirrors and trinkets. It’s also right next door to the city’s biggest flea market, Els Encants.

Five Days away in Barcelona

Uma Suites staff were very helpful, kind and have very good English which started our trip off with a feeling of ease. They allowed us to check in early and gave us advice on how to travel and the best ways of getting places, in our room we were provided with a map and recommendations of where to eat and where the main sightseeing places were. The room is very light and spacious as well as having a very artistic setup. The rooms were very clean and tidy and we had all of the things we needed, our room even had a bottle of white wine included! The open kitchen and front room made it seem like a posh apartment rather than a holiday place. The apartment building was very well kept and safe with a key number needed to get into the building.
The only negatives I have are that, the rooms were a bit worn down and in need of some repainting and a few more screws in the bathroom celling as it kept dipping in when the shower had been on. I would recommend asking to have some of the higher floors as the first floor was a bit noisier than the higher floors. Also, due to my lack of research, it wast as central as I had hoped, it was about an hour from the coast when walking and half an hour from shopping central La Rambla.
All together, the room was nice and the building was very well kept and safe, the staff were amazing and so so helpful and kind, a very good place to stay when you don’t want to be in the centre of the madness of Barcelona but still want to be close.

Noise ruined weekend

Stayed for a weekend in July with my family apartment was nice and well equipped.
On our first night the noise from one of the apartments upstairs was terrible (shouting and screaming) so much so that my two young girls were terrified.
Children were exhausted the following day which ruined our visit.
Brought to the attention of concierge next morning who told me that I should have knocked on apartment door also out of hours number was not answered.
Brought it to the attention of management by email whose attitude was nothing short of appalling basically said that we made no complaint and no one else had either.
So nice apartment but not suitable for children if your staying at weekends and attitude of management is awful.

Spacious and well equipped in great location

Great central location at Carrer de Valencia, 194. Apartment 202 is spacious with 2 double bedrooms and sofa bed in the lounge.
Very clean and tidy with free WiFi.
Well equipped kitchen with a Nespresso coffee machine! A little tip for using the oven - it will only work if you use the timer (turn the dial).
We arrived very early and e-mailed ahead to ask for early check in, which was arranged without any problem. The staff were very helpful.
Will definitely book again ????
