Just off the Gran Via in Barcelona’s Eixample district, the Ofelias is a hip hotel with a roof terrace and a cozy lounge bar. The 44 guestrooms are all about clean lines and comfort, with a white-on-cream color scheme, chunky wooden floors, lightbox artworks and large glass doors that lead through to the bathrooms (which feature rainfall showers and luxe bath products). Triple Rooms are great for families or groups, and Terrace Rooms come with a private wooden deck. The hotel espouses a “slow travel” philosophy that promotes relaxation and healthy eating; ayurvedic and organic breakfasts are served every morning, and the property makes an ideal base from which to enjoy the buzz of Barcelona at a leisurely pace. Explore the sights and then head back for a dip in the rooftop pool, indulge in an in-room massage or kick back in the lounge bar with a cava.
In the Area
The Ofelias is located in Eixample, Barcelona’s modernist district, so watch your step: You’ll spend a lot of time looking up at the unique buildings. Your list of must-sees will be long, but near the top should be Antoni Gaudí’s world famous work-in-progress, the Sagrada Familia; the incredible Casa Batllo, built by Gaudí at the start of the 1900s; and Park Güell, with its spectacular sculptures and views across the city to the Mediterranean. Tuck into tapas at Quimet i Quimet, and try out legendary cocktail bar Dry Martini before moving on to one of Barca’s world class clubs. Just opposite the hotel, Parc de Joan Miró is a tribute to the artist; it features Miró’s striking sculpture Dona i Ocell.
How to Get There
We had a first floor room which had a very nice terrace outside. The room was a good size and the hotel reception staff were great always friendly and helpful. Easy to reach all the main sites from this location.
Great hotel amazing customer service, very clean and nice room
Quiet place ,great location. Many restaurants around, big room and beautiful patio! Super satisfied, highly recommend! Small hotel where they really care about customers!
I had business at the Hotel Catolonia nearby, but wanted a smaller, more boutique experience. TripAdvisor reviews compelled me to book, so I wanted to add my own review to add to the good reviews since it was such a wonderful stay.
I check in late - around midnight - but the hotel was holding my room and quick to accommodate, even helping me with luggage out of the taxi. There is typically only one person at the desk, but I was always given prompt and friendly service. The hotel is gorgeous - a romantic chic. I love this about boutique hotels. My room was facing the back, which I would request if possible. My window gave me a view of a courtyard where I could see the surrounding neighborhood balconies, with laundry hanging on the line and the faint sounds of life surrounding us (though never noisy, not even with the window open). For $14 Euro, you can get the buffet breakfast in the morning and it was delicious. Super clean rooms, comfy beds, slippers, ample space, good smelling toiletries (and the hair conditioner actually conditioned my hair, which most hotel conditioners do not). The hair dryer was a little annoying because I had to hold the button for it to work (not just flip the button on) but I didn't need it more than a day so it didn't matter much.
The neighborhood isn't the 'sexiest' in Barcelona, but it's by no means a dud. It has a lot of great restaurants and shopping nearby. Also the train is accessible. There are several restaurants and a small shopping mall right across the street in fact. One directly across the street called "Arrosseria" gave great service and good food (albeit not a destination restaurant, still hit the spot). I love arroz negro, which I can only get in Spain. Did they have the BEST arroz negro...no...but was it still delicious and super convenient? Yes. Sometimes it's nice to know even if it's late, you can get food/drink near the hotel. I was there for work solo so for me, it was wonderfully appreciated to have food right outside the door. The tourist bus stops nearby and you have gorgeous views in the area too...you could watch the "Magic Fountain" within walking distance 5min or less.
I had a couple of questions / requests during the stay and Christina and Cosmin were wonderful to help me on both needs. It was a very warm, clean, and inviting hotel and I highly recommend it.
The only small thing to note is that I found my shower floor (no tub) to be incredibly slippery. It may be worth it for the hotel to offer a non-slip pad (or perhaps they do). I didn't ask for one, but it occurred to me that elderly, people with children, or even myself after two glasses of delicious Spanish wine might find slipping / falling issues with the shower floor. But really...if that's my only critique, then it is most certainly on my "highly recommend" list. Thank you, Ofelias!
this clean and modern hotel sits one minute from the playa espana metro station (where you take the train to monserrat), and next to a dozen good restaurants. ofelias has lightning fast internet, an absolutely excellent breakfast, and the front desk staff could not have been nicer. they printed out my boarding passes for me (for free!), and when i left my converter in the room, they looked for it and emailed me back about it. i couldn't have been happier with this hotel.
Had a great stay at the Ofelias Hotel. Easy to get to from the airport on the Aeroport Bus (first stop) plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Easy, straight walk into the centre of Barcelona or loads of busrs and the metro right outside the door as well as thw hop on tour buses. Lovely modern hotel nice room great staff. Loved the landing decor. Would definitely book there again.
