Just off the Gran Via in Barcelona’s Eixample district, the Ofelias is a hip hotel with a roof terrace and a cozy lounge bar. The 44 guestrooms are all about clean lines and comfort, with a white-on-cream color scheme, chunky wooden floors, lightbox artworks and large glass doors that lead through to the bathrooms (which feature rainfall showers and luxe bath products). Triple Rooms are great for families or groups, and Terrace Rooms come with a private wooden deck. The hotel espouses a “slow travel” philosophy that promotes relaxation and healthy eating; ayurvedic and organic breakfasts are served every morning, and the property makes an ideal base from which to enjoy the buzz of Barcelona at a leisurely pace. Explore the sights and then head back for a dip in the rooftop pool, indulge in an in-room massage or kick back in the lounge bar with a cava.
In the Area
The Ofelias is located in Eixample, Barcelona’s modernist district, so watch your step: You’ll spend a lot of time looking up at the unique buildings. Your list of must-sees will be long, but near the top should be Antoni Gaudí’s world famous work-in-progress, the Sagrada Familia; the incredible Casa Batllo, built by Gaudí at the start of the 1900s; and Park Güell, with its spectacular sculptures and views across the city to the Mediterranean. Tuck into tapas at Quimet i Quimet, and try out legendary cocktail bar Dry Martini before moving on to one of Barca’s world class clubs. Just opposite the hotel, Parc de Joan Miró is a tribute to the artist; it features Miró’s striking sculpture Dona i Ocell.
How to Get There
We stayed at Ofelias Hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of our Barcelona stay and loved it so much that we returned for one night before heading back to the US. The room was perfect—beautiful, comfortable and clean. The location was great—very close to public transport. The metro was quick and easy to use and the station was a 3 minute walk from the hotel. The front desk staff was so helpful—tours, reservations, advice on where to go—everything you could ask for. We were there during the protests and they helped us navigate the city during the general strike on 10/18. We especially appreciated Christina who greeted us when we arrived at 6:45 in the morning!
The personnel was very attentive personnel, the breakfast was great, the hotel is conveniently located close to Plaça Espana and the environment in and around the hotel was quiet and safe.
I really enjoyed my stay and will be coming back.
Really nice, small hotel. Good breakfast and service. Only thing missing was a garbage bin in the bathroom and and a socket nearby the bed. I always use my phone as alarm clock, but I wasn't able to charge the phone nearby the bed.
