How to Get There
Excellent location just 2 blocks from the main downtown with all the activities. Excellent excellent staff and concierge. Inexpensive room, two double beds and breakfast was included. Breakfast was just OK but it’s all about location location location. The rooms had just been remodeled and were updated with USB ports for my phone. Spotlessly clean inside and out
Had a weekend in Barcelona with my son, stopped here for a cocktail staff brilliant and cocktails to die for plus wonderful view whilst having a drink brilliant and even though the weather was wet and windy it was still fun lovely place Barcelona
Stayed 3 nights. Hotel is right on the Cathedral square with a large terrace overlooking the city. Despite the location was very quiet over night. The staff was great and spoke excellent English. The room was spacious by Europe’s standards, but did have an unusual smell. Not horrible, but noticeable throughout our stay. The weather was nice, so we kept the terrace doors open which made it much less of an issue. The staff helped with local directions and was very efficient coordinating local and airport transportation. There was a beautiful rooftop terrace although the single person working there was constantly overwhelmed and service was terribly slow. The view more than made up for the pace. We would stay again.
Check-in was very easy, and the location of the hotel, just across from the Cathedral is perfect. It's walking distance to several places close-by, including the Gothic district and La Boqueria (which should not be missed!).
Our room was located on the 2nd floor, which means it was newly renovated, but the layout of the room was not in the least bit comfortable. There was construction noise all day long and the view was of the alleyway behind the hotel. It was unseasonably warm the two days that we were there, but the temperature in the room could not be adjusted as it was automatically set to heat. So, unfortunately we did not get much sleep both nights since the room was so warm and stuffy.
I will give the breakfast (which is included in the room price) five stars, however. Wonderful selection, the cafe con leche is delicious, as is the rest of the spread of hot and cold foods. I would go back to Hotel Colon for the breakfast alone!
I would like to mention Martha, the front desk associate especially, as she was simply lovely to deal with. She went above and beyond to find us a fabulous restaurant, plus made our reservations for our last night there.
It's already known that the hotel boasts a grand view of the Cathedral. However, during November and December, you can see the Christmas market that is right in the courtyard in front. We booked the room with the view of the cathedral and was very satisfied. The room featured a bathtub, bathrobes and slippers for a relaxing experience. Although I didn't get to try out the restaurant and the bar, it seemed to be reasonably priced for the location and views.
