When it comes to shopping in Barcelona, few places are more fabulous than Diagonal Mar – the new urban development that’s home to the triangular-shaped Fòrum building, ground-breaking recreational park, Convention Centre, Llevant Beach and supersized three-storey shopping mall that packs in all the high-street greats.
While the beachfront proximity sets the tone nicely, it’s the glossy décor and state-of-the-art flourishes at the four-star Hotel Attica 21 Barcelona Mar that truly inspire. Expect fashion-forward yet understated design schemes, floor-to-ceiling windows, and fully-equipped guest rooms.
When you’re not shopping your heart out or seeking sand space at the nearby beach, spend your days lounging on the sun terrace by the rooftop pool or hitting the newly-opened bar for light snacks, coffee and speciality cocktails. Best of all, you’re a quick taxi ride from the heart of the city, should you need to satisfy your Gaudi cravings.
It’s all super-sleek furnishings, wooden fittings and a clever use of neutrals in the 75 rooms, all of which are finished to a high spec. Spacious Premier rooms have a double bed or two twins dressed with deluxe bedlinen, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows and an en-suite bathroom with bathtub. Thoughtful touches include a coffee machine, bathrobe and slippers, and iPhone-compatible high-quality speakers.
Kick-start your day with all sorts of international staples and Catalan-themed specialties at the cool-looking Buffet Attica. For day-to-night chilling, there is the brand new and rather stylish Attica-Bar – a coffee-shop-cum-snack bar with an extensive menu of cocktails, coffee and tea, and light bites that are available daily from 10am-3pm and from 7pm-1am. Room service is also available.
Set 10 minutes from one of Barcelona’s pretty beaches, you’ll be staying in Diagonal Mar – the new district celebrated for its triangular-shaped Fòrum building, ground-breaking urban park and Convention Centre. Must-dos here include shopping your heart out at the supersized three-storey Diagonal Mar shopping mall, and hitting the golden sands at Llevant – the city’s easternmost and newest beach. Further city thrills include bar-hopping at the Olympic Port, marvelling at surrealist art at the Fundació Joan Miró, fuelling your passion for FC Barcelona at Camp Nou, and admiring Gaudi’s dazzling masterpieces at the Sagrada Familia. Hotel Attica 21 Barcelona Mar is a 20-minute drive from Barcelona–El Prat Airport.
How to Get There
I liked the hotel, and for the values we paid for two rooms hosting the five of us was very nice.
The hotel is located 10 min from the beach (Platja de Llevant) and has a nearby supermarket, Pharmacy and bakery <5 min walk each. Also close to metro and bus stations. The rooms were really clean and the reception and concierge were so hospitable. The corridors and lighting seem well maintained, well lit and clean. The A/C was also working very fine but I appreciate that they offer bottles of water replenishment for free as the tap water wasn’t really that good (taste is ok but from a wet glass that I left over night milky white stains were found next morning on the shelf indicating high values of salts). Toilets are equipped with bidets which is very convenient for us. The hotel has a parking for it but for a fee of ~15€/24hours. Hotel disclaimed that they’re not responsible for the security of your car in case of burglary or theft. The rooftop pool is cool, quite small but very nice and cosy. We didn’t try breakfast only because we wanted to explore the city and enjoy some Spanish taste of everything. I’d definitely give a five if the parking was included in the rate and secured by the hotel.
Clean hotel, large bedroom, comfortable bed, useful fridge in rooms and safe - few tatty bits which could do with updating ie a few cracked tiles in bathroom, and chipped wood at the bottom of wardrobes, and breakfast was a bit overpriced. Pool looks a lot larger than it is in real life and only 11 sunbeds for whole hotel so ended up laying onthe concrete a few times. Cabs were expensive if you got them from the hotel desk and about 1/2 pric eif you hailed one outside - not sure why. Really cannot understand that we checked the room thoroughly before packing and when we got home noticed a pair of shoes missing - emailed hotel who hadnt found them - they couldnt have just disappeared so cant understand where they went ???? If you stay here, visit Tras paso, just round the corner and best eatery for tapas or drinks in Barcelona that we found. Also fab place for pastries/coffee/breakfast about 2 minutes to the right of the hotel, next to supermarket about 1/4 of price of hotel breakfast. Staff couldnt have been more pleasant!!!
Was only here for two nights and I did not sleep at all. This is because the bed was very uncomfortable and the mattress was hard :(
On the first night got woken up by the cleaner banging on the door, even though the DND sign was up.
On the second night I got woken up from hearing people taking (and doing much worse things) outside.
I informed the staff (her name was Soli I believe) on my way out and they said there is nothing they could do.
I paid for an extra bed in my room, which was pointless as I could not sleep at all.
Otherwise the hotel was clean enough and relaxing. Based on my experience here I would not ever return.
