How to Get There
Our stay aligned with the Atwater's last week before an 18 month closure for a remodel. We found the hotel pleasant and the price right. The staff was solicitous and welcoming. We arrived early and they checked our bags. They also provided baggage transport service back to the boat. They sold tix to other Catalina Island Company attractions with a small discount. The bakery next door, for which they provide breakfast coupons (pastry and beverage) is very good. All in all a good stay.
Definitely an older hotel with some charm, but don't expect a room with a view or elevator to the second floor. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area's attractions. It is easily accessible to all the restaurants and shopping as well as the island adventures. Rooms are clean and simple- no refrigerator or coffee in the room. Slightly over priced.
Great front desk service staff, gave tons of useful tips on tours/restaurants/things to do on the Catalina Island. Convenient location to spend your nights on Catalina Island, nearby to all cafes & restaurants on the main street.
The room smelled like smoke from time to time and the bath room was dirty and I had to call and complain.
The towels were like sandpaper.
They give you a voucher to go to a coffee shop a few doors down to get a coffee and muffin or danish.
Pros: Better than what I expected, the suite is large enough to comfortably accommodate three people and I'm pretty sure it can accommodate more. Although the hotel itself a bit aged, everything is clean and facilities are well preserved. The hotel is close to nearly anywhere in Avalon. The front desk was pretty nice and gave us some suggestions to watch the sunrise.
Cons: The TV in the room sometimes turns on itself automatically. The breakfast choices weren't too much (the bakeries taste pretty good though) and during the night the neighbors were quite noisy and disturbing.
