Nice but....

We really loved the people and island of Porto Santo.
The Pestana was a good hotel with great staff and a lovely atmosphere.
We do want to return next year but..
There is (hopefully was) a problem.
The main buffet and the snack bars by the pool were plagued by sparrows.
These birds were in the serving dishes and bowls. At 1 time there were 3 sparrows in a rice bowl.
Saying that we did not hear of anyone coming down with food poisoning.
We did bring this to the attention of our (very good) rep. We were asked to meet with managers to discuss this problem and have been told that steps will be taken.
It will be interesting to read in a few months time to see if things have changed.
We hope they do as we would love to be able to go back next year.

This is a lovely hotel, rooms very comfortable and spacious. Pool area immaculate and has a fab view of one of the mountains. Beach is unbelievable with its soft white sand and turquoise sea. The hotel does charge for beach sun beds though but offers free wind breaks (it is a windy island) and umbrellas if you prefer to lay on your towel. Great choose of food but unfortunately they allow the sparrows to fly in the main restaurant, who tend to pinch any scraps off the tables, didn't bother us but may concern some! Island it’s self is small but has some great walks and amazing views. Would recommend doing the jeep tour as guides very informative. Would also recommend having a night in the town with the locals.

A magical little find

An amazing hotel & surroundings. Pure relaxation with the beach on your doorstep, which is the best one we've ever seen. The accommodation was more than we expected, although just a few extras would have helped such as facilities to make a cup of coffee/tea and an iron. I would say the holiday was great overall apart from the birds in the buffet restaurant & at the pool snack bar which were eating & pecking at the food. In our opinion a very serious health risk.

We had a lovely relaxing time. However the island is very small with limited things to do. But overall it was part of its charm. Very unspoiled and quiet. We recommend that if you like guaranteed weather you go in June or July

Hidden gem!

Can only reiterate the positive comments posted by other reviewers. We had an amazing week tho maybe we were lucky with the weather which always helps! Lovely spacious hotel where the staff go all out to make your stay enjoyable. Animation team were brilliant, such talented and versatile young people who never stopped entertaining. A big thank you to each and everyone of them, to all of the staff and Shane, the Tui rep.
