You’ll feel right at home in this airy boutique hotel in Cartagena’s historic center. The six sunny bedrooms strike the perfect balance of stylish and cozy — whitewashed walls, fluffy eggshell comforters and subdued furnishings — while the dining room’s bold black-and-white checkered floor is decidedly modern. Take breakfast on your private balcony (in the suite), retire to the intimate courtyard pool or settle in with a glass of champagne in the rooftop hot tub — you’ll enjoy a lofty view of the neighboring houses and the Caribbean Sea in the distance.
In the Area
Casa Don Sancho puts you within walking distance of some of Cartagena’s top attractions. Wander the charming narrow streets of the old walled city while feasting on arepas and exploring hidden courtyards. Take in a dance show or play at Teatro Heredia, a theater inaugurated in 1911 to commemorate 100 years of independence. Or take a day trip to the Islas del Rosario; the 30-island archipelago, about 40 minutes off the coast, boasts miles of white sand beaches and crystal clear water for snorkeling.
How to Get There
Upon arriving to Casa Don Sancho, we were warmly greeted and taken upstairs for a complimentary beverage. The staff was very informative of things to do around Cartagena, helping to assist with day trips to the islands, and recommendations for dining. When we found our room, we were very pleased. It was charming, with fresh roses and nice linens. The rooftop jacuzzi is a great viewing spot of the city day and night. The 24 hour staff was terrific throughout the entire stay, they are all extremely accommodating and friendly. Rooms were very cool with good AC. Bathrooms were also stocked with plush towels and robes. Turn down service with complimentary water and chocolate was a nice way to unwind for the day. We would definitely recommended staying here at Casa Don Sancho.
This hotel was the most beautiful hotel with the warmest, welcoming, friendly and accommodating staff!!!
They went out of their way to make our stay special and it was truly wonderful!
Everything from the food, to the house atmosphere and our room was spectacular!
Highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing, amazing stay in Cartagena!
My husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel in the heart of the old city for 7 nights in November. We found that they attended to every detail we could have hoped for! I have traveled extensively and was very impressed with this hotel. It is a small hotel with only 6 rooms so it is quite intimate. The rooms were very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was lovely and delicious. Frank was a tremendous help for planning our stay. He Recommended delicious restaurants, booked trips to Rosario Island and Blue Apple for us, and was always available with a smile to help. Javier the chef was fantastic too! One night we had a beautiful private dinner on the roof of the hotel. I am a vegetarian so they made me a special meal which was one of the best meals I have had all year. There are also a lot of places to sit and relax in the hotel outside of your room and since there are so few people staying there at any one time it feels like your home. I recommend Casa Don Sancho very enthusiastically.
We could not be happier about staying at Casa Don Sancho on our honeymoon. The staff was very attentive and helpful, they went above and beyond to make our stay in Cartagena an experience. We went with their suggestions on where to eat and what to see and we were not disappointed. Since we loved staying at the hotel and just enjoying the atmosphere, we decided to have dinner at the hotel one evening. They provided their take on the local food and it was delicious, well worth it if you wish a calm and intimate evening away from the often hectic old city.
The hotel is a beautifully restored mansion from around the year 1740. Our room was cosy and spotlessly clean. The roof terrace and ground level pool area were absolutely inviting for hanging out and enjoying an afternoon drink.
We feel very lucky that we found Casa Don Sancho amongst all the hotels in Cartagena. I am sure there are plenty of other great hotels, but if/when we come back to Cartagena we will definitely stay with them again.
This was an beautiful hotel. The rooms and common areas were amazing. All of the staff was very gracious and helpful. They arranged for a trip to the islands and helped with various questions we had. Easy walking distance to everything in Old City, would definitely stay here again.
