How to Get There
We came to Rendezvous following a stay at Antigua Sandals Grande that we didn’t really enjoy largely because the food wasn’t good and it was just a bit too much “in your face”. The two hotels are polar opposites, the very first breakfast I ate here was better than all 8 we tried at Sandals; not by much but it just felt right.
Our room (Luxury Beachfront) was most certainly on the beach, literally a dozen steps or so and your toes were in the sand and we had a wonderful view from our patio doors. The downsides were that some of the woodwork (doors/frames etc) was tired and worn and shock horror after Sandals, there was only tap water in a bottle in the minibar - no beer or vodka tonics on our small terrace then - that was a real shame. Having said that, the aircon worked well and the bed was very comfortable. The walk in shower worked beautifully and we had no other issues with our room other than a ridiculously slow cold tap which I never got round to reporting.
As previously touched upon, the food here is generally very good and they really try to mix it up in the three available restaurants - Malabar Beach was our favourite in the evening and generally at lunch as well although the Terrace restaurant served decent lunches and “afternoon tea” from 5-6pm I think it was. We weren’t madly keen on the booking only Trysting Place which was a bit stuffy for the Caribbean we felt but suited some.
The bars here are excellent, the Terrace Bar serves the adjacent restaurant during meals so you may have a short wait but they’re friendly and you rarely have to wait long despite all shots being measured which was a surprise after the free pouring Sandals but not a problem. There’s a Champagne Bar that is open until the last guest leaves but we didn’t use it because we were happy chatting to the lovely JoJo at the pool/beach bar or drinking at the Terrace when there were acts on..
The entertainment was patchy, there were a couple of decent soul/reggae/pop bands and one or two that weren’t so good but we don’t go to hotels for their entertainment generally so it wasn’t an issue for us. The team made a great effort on Valentine’s Day with the lights everywhere and the sunset cruise (which we didn’t get back for in time) and the band on the beach with a heart shaped dance floor..
The staff were generally wonderful - there’s always one or two that can be a touch grumpy occasionally but on the whole we were welcomed like old friends by the vast majority. They work very hard here, from the kitchen staff to the wait and bar staff and the people that look after the sumptuous grounds and stunning flora and fauna.
We liked the pools, the main one with the walk up bar could do with an extra step when getting in but is great for a little paddle about, not built for real swimming. It’s not always easy to get a bed here as it’s very popular although there’s none of this 6am towels on beds rubbish, people tend to saunter over from after breakfast to about 11am. The oblong pool is smaller but just as welcoming and Glen and his staff regularly patrol to offer drinks. Indeed there’s the more than occasional offer of some delicious drinks at the main pool, I loved the drink with mango and ginger and my wife the Pimms. Chilled water was also regularly placed next to beds which I liked.
Would we come back.? If all inclusive was our thing then 100% yes, check out my pictures to see how beautiful the beach is and my individual reviews of two of the restaurants, Malabar and The Trysting. As it happens we’re not overly keen on AI and would next time stay in a very small boutique hotel and eat out every night. The temptation of all the food was too much for me and I over ate, we made breakfast a big thing when we often don’t even bother at home. That’s not the hotel’s fault though, they’re providing good food and drink all day as any decent AI hotel should - we’d undoubtedly stay again if we wanted all inclusive.
An extremely well run & friendly hotel. Facilities and activities are plentiful if you need them or just chill out. The staff as he attentive nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are comfortable clean & spacious.
Just returned from a week's stay at this great resort. It is a smaller resort which was a first for us, but we really enjoyed the familiarity and friendliness of the staff. We were continuously amazed how quickly the staff leaned not only our names, but how we were all related etc, (We were part of a big group 28 plus people). Our server on the beach, Tasha is one of the friendliest, kindest, most interesting person I've met and we looked forward to visiting with her every day. The service and food was excellent. I can't recall not liking one thing that I ate.
The beaches are amazing and you can walk for miles and miles on powdered sand. Even though the beach is public and I read some concerns regarding security, we never once felt unsafe or were approached by anyone.
Just a heads up that there is no beverages offered in your fridge in the rooms. This was different for us and if you wanted some beer or pop you needed to order and pay extra. Too bad since you like a nice cold beer once in awhile on the balcony.
We had the premium garden view room and it was nice, clean and adequate for our needs.
All and all it was a great experience and we would definitely go back!
Just came back for a week at this beautiful resort. We stayed in a seaside suite, which in my opinion is the best of all the rooms on the resort. We stayed in suite 131. The rooms was spacious and newly renovated, a pool right outside of our lovely patio, with a bar and an open air restaurant right beside the bar. The bar is located on the beach side of the pool. The beach is amazing!!! The best beach I have been to, and I have been to many beaches. The sea bottom is hard and free of seaweed, the beaches are impeccably clean as is the sea. Now about the staff at this lovely QUIET, tv free resort. This resort is all about personal connections. The staff asks your name when they meet you........and they remember it!!! I don’t know how they do it, but they know you and great you by name, every time you see them. I wanted to give a huge thank you to “my sweets” Tasha Emmanuel ! She was a joy to be around and made me and my guy feel special. Thanks “sweets”😘. Also a huge shout out to Jo Jo! Awesome young lady, and I hope you are feeling better. There were many others at the resort that I forget the names of (my memory isn’t as good as yours, my apologies). Your friendly smiles and chats made our stay at the resort very memorable. So if you are looking for a quiet, tv free, romantic getaway. Check out rendezvous resort. You won’t be disappointed.
I first reviewed this resort on January 2012 under the heading " simply the best". I am pleased to report it still is and has this title suggests is absolutely fabulous. The programme of continued improvement has modernised the rooms but the overall character of the resort has retained it's winning formula. New additions like the champagne tasting in the piano bar and the Malabar restaurant on the beach have taken it to another level. As other reviews point out the staff are exceptional and all are worthy of praise. The quality of the food remains very high as does the attention to hygiene. Thanks to everyone for making our return visit so enjoyable.
