How to Get There
My husband and I had our destination wedding here and had an incredible experience! The whole wedding experience was so well coordinated, and the wedding department were fantastic at ensuring our events were well organised and also facilitated all our events perfectly. In addition to the wedding day events (ceremony, cocktail hour, and private reception), we also had a semi-private rehearsal dinner and a semi-private farewell brunch. Everything was beautifully done and the staff were so friendly and accommodating - they really did their best to make our week special!
The resort itself is also fantastic! The beach is great - soft, white sand and clear, warm water. The pools were excellent - we especially loved the foam party! And the food was fabulous! We stayed in the Diamond Club, and would absolutely recommend it - it was well worth the upgrade! Our butlers, Chad and Stacey, were so attentive, and our housekeeper, Madonna, went above and beyond, even cleaning our room early on our wedding day so that it was extra spic and span for our getting ready photos. All the staff on resort are friendly and really go the extra mile. The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable - I loved the dream beds! The only room for improvement I could see would be to renovate some of the rooms. A few of our guests had maintenance issues with their rooms, and the decor was a bit worn. That being said, it was a very minor thing in an otherwise incredible vacation and it is still hands down my best experience at any resort!
First they need to take "luxury" out of their description. This is NOT a luxury hotel. We had a so called junior suite and it wasn't. I've had standard rooms larger than that room. Also, it was supposed to have an ocean view, we had a pool view. Upon check in, they raved about all of the restaurants on site, however, they failed to tell us that some of the restaurants are closed on Sundays. They held an all white beach party and closed the majority of the restaurants on site forcing you to go to the party if you wanted to eat. We were there to celebrate my mother's 65th birthday and couldn't go to the restaurant she wanted to go to because it was closed two days in a row. They had a lot of weddings there on Friday and Saturday, so it seems like once the weddings were done, they stopped putting forth an effort for those who were still at the resort. They sent cupcakes to our room wishing my mom a happy birthday, problem is they did it on the wrong day. We waited over two hours one morning for room service and they still got the order wrong. The next time I am in Jamaica, I will stay at the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall, like I usually do. They know what luxury truly is.

Overall, all 11 of us in our group had a wonderful trip and really enjoyed ourselves at this resort. Keep in mind that Royalton Blue Waters (RBW) and Royalton White Sands (RWS) share space. It’s all intertwined (you use the same bars, pools, restaurants, beach). What was really neat for us is that no one could use their key because they attach it to your wrist! Your bracelet is your key. It’s only inconvenient when you want to go to someone else’s room because you’ll either need them to go with you or you have to cut off their wrist. I’ll go with the first option :)
The resort is beautiful! It’s also small, which is perfect because you don’t need a golf cart to get around. Simply walk to where you need to go. As mentioned above, guests from RWS can use the space at the RBW and vice versa. Everyone is family. This also made it quiet on the resort because they are both small.
Additionally, the landscaping is beautiful. It’s so green and lush, it’s quite a site.
The staff at RWS is great. They’re always smiling, always saying hello. Shewa (pronounced Sh-way) from the front desk recognized me and always made sure to check in, and say hello. Whenever I walked by a staff member, they made sure to say hello and when possible, took the time to ask about my stay. They are great people to interact with because they will always make you laugh and/or smile.
The wedding department team.. so much can be said, but words are lacking so much that I am in awe of these people. The purpose for this trip was mine and my husband’s wedding. We had planned everything with a coordinator here in Canada before our departure and it was all ready to go in Jamaica. This team was ready and even made our day more special with their own extras. They added yellow (my wedding colour) drapery to the gazebo, they added the chair sashes, they modified my bouquet by adding in my peacock feathers and they didn’t want my help. It doesn’t sound like much, but it was huge for me, especially that yellow drapery, which was a surprise to me. It just shows that they care for their clients.
* I think I didn’t make them work hard enough because I only had 9 guests, haha :)
The food here was delicious. There are many options in the buffet and various restaurants on both resorts you can choose from. None require reservations, except Zen, which is a must-try! Because the resort is so small, not many people are there, there are always openings at the restaurants. However, if you want to play it safe, you can make reservations. There is a restaurant for any palette.
Another restaurant, Jade, is different. I believe this one requires full dress (almost formal), but I never inquired. As for the other restaurants, if you are wearing sandals (flip-flops), they’d like them to be leather or leather-like. You could get turned away otherwise. Gentleman in my party got away with wearing shorts and a collared shirt, ladies shorts and a tank top. However, we’ve seen people wearing ball caps and not dressing up at all. In the buffet (Gourmet Marché), swimwear is not allowed unless wearing a cover-up (it has to be closed).
The beach was gorgeous. However, there were weeds, which I didn’t like. Walk a little to the public beach area (a fence divides RWS’ beach and this one) and the weeds disappear. The water was warm, beautiful and so relaxing. The sand at RWS is indeed white, as their name says.
The beach is small, but has plenty of tiki huts for shade. One also doesn’t have to be up at 6am to reserve a chair, because there is always space on either RWS’ beach or on RBW’s.
The rooms at RWS are not as advertised on their website. They are dated and in need of repair. Some rooms do not have clocks, doors don’t close (like a bathroom door), some don’t have mirrors, lightbulbs are burned and some don’t even have shower doors that close so the floor gets flooded. Additionally, some rooms didn’t have a locking patio door!
I booked this trip for my wedding and it was a group booking. My travel agent said that we’d all be in the same area, since it’s a group booking. Upon arriving at the hotel, the front desk clerk tells us that unless the travel agent specifically puts in their notes that they want guests on the same floor and/or close by, any room is given. We were divided, all over the resort. Also, because the bride and groom get the diamond club privileges, they are often isolated from everyone and are given perks that not all guests are given. It makes sense, but we were a group of 11 people; I think they could have had some of the same perks! It just seemed very divided, although we booked as a group.
The pool bars here close at 5. It’s quite early. Also, food is not available 24/7 unless you get room service.
The only places to drink are the martini bar, the pool bar, the lobby bar and the sports bar. Although they are open all day, the latest time to get a drink is 1am (Martini bar) or 3am for the sports bar, that turns into the disco – small space + crazy loud music + a lot of people = slow service.
Overall, the value for this trip was not equivalent to what we got. RWS claims to be a 5-star resort, but the rooms say otherwise. The food is good, but it’s nothing above and beyond. Throughout our one-week stay, there were 5 power outages that we are aware of. They lasted 5 minutes at their longest, but the spa was out of power the day of my wedding and the back-up plan was to do hair in my room. Had I not had power, I don’t know what the plan would have been. Thankfully, it came back on and we didn’t need plan B or C. Also, I have guests who requested an ocean view room - they never got it and still paid extra. Keep in mind that there are no direct ocean view rooms - you'd have to turn your head to see the ocean from your room. The hotel is shaped in an "X" and so the "ocean view" is slightly off to the side.
As a bride, although the wedding department took great care of my guests, my husband and I, the value of the wedding package wasn’t amazing. Yes, we got drinks and appetizers for a cocktail hour, but I am also at an all-inclusive resort where this is readily available. It just didn’t make sense to pay more to get what I could get on the resort, simply because it’s a wedding.
As far as the diamond club goes, I did get the privileges (butlers and a room that came 4 days after my arrival), but my guests did not. I felt isolated. I didn't see the value in being a diamond club member.
I did enjoy my stay, but I feel I overpaid for what I got. If you can find a great deal, do check out the resort, but don't pay full price.

We are here at White Sands now. The rooms are just as you say dated and very small. The television is small as well and yes the clock does not work. We have to set our watches or phones so that we don’t miss excursions that we planned. Our room smells like a wet moldy basement. Every day we have asked for towels because they failed to put any in the room stating that they ran out. We can’t adjust the thermostat on our air-conditioner and don’t know what the air is set on but do you know there are times where the room is warm. We requested someone look at the air since last Saturday but no one has come in there even after multiple complaints. We complained about having no towles in total we have had them twice in six days. Seven restaurants and on a daily basis three are closed and one is diamond so if you’re not diamond you can not get in leaving you left with limited options including the buffet which closes at certain times. Two restaurants have been close literally all week. Kiddie pool has been closed now for four days. This means all the kids are in the bigger pools where the adults are. Recommend this resort no way!!! The concierge doesn’t answer the phone when you call and neither does the front desk. Room service takes over an hour. Multiple power outages throughout the week as well as the day. When you say luxury I expect just that especially for the price that you pay! Received a phone call asking how was our stay. I voiced my concerns and was told that the manager would contact me today. Still waiting for that call from management.
We we also had at least 50 people they came for a wedding and vacation and at least half of us had to change rooms due to multiple problems such as stated above.
No recommendations from me… #not-luxury #dated #poorservices #poormanagementfollowup
