How to Get There
We stayed at Hotel Alisey for 14 days and as we explored more of Las Terrenas during these two weeks, we gradually understood what a perfect location we were in.
The Hotel: Compared to the general standard of living in Las Terrenas the hotel is quite “high end”. It is located only a few meters from the beach separated by a moderate trafficked one lane road. The people working at the hotel, as like about everyone else we met who were locals, was friendly and service minded. Yoga was offered every morning at 8:30 (11 in the weekends). The yoga teacher, Imke, was skillful, knowledgeable and taught varied and relaxing Iyengar-classes. A great way to start the day (remember to bring 400 DOP in cash).
The pool area: was inviting with comfortable sunbeds and for the most part quiet. We spent many mornings in the sun there, reading our books and dipping in to the cool water. We also ordered both drinks and food from the pool bar or the restaurant and got it served there. The pool itself was cleaned every morning.
The room: With a fully equipped kitchen (including a powerful blender for our midday smoothies), modern’ish bathroom and a big master bedroom, we felt at home from the start. The room was cleaned every day if we wanted to, but spending most of the time outdoors we hang the “do not disturb” sign in the door about every other day. The hammock on the big terrace was a nice touch!
The area: After about 15 minutes on foot we all of a sudden were surrounded by the noise and traffic of the city. It was a surprisingly big contrast to the peaceful area we lived in. We loved that it was only a short walk (or an even shorter “mototaxi” ride) to all the restaurants, souvenir shops and supermarkets. Waking up in the hotel in the mornings all we could hear was the birds singing.
TIPS: We recommend not booking the whale watching tour through the hotel. This was not a good experience. This is to no fault of the hotel as they don’t have anything to do with the tour itself. They merely booked the tour for us. In general we recommend you stay away from “Eva Tour Samana”.
We (2 adults) stayed at this property for 3 nights, including Christmas Eve/Day, and had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
I chose the least expensive room category as I knew we would be at the beach or out and about most of the time, so I was not expecting much, but our loft room was cozy and comfortable, and we were very pleased. A nice touch was the plushy extra blanket for the bed that I loved so much, I bought an identical one to it when we got home.
The pool bar was fun and inviting, and the staff were all friendly and engaging.
The beach was steep and not very large but equipped with nice chairs and well within walking distance of pleasant beach bars and restaurants. One day, a group of non-guests "took over" the majority of the beach chairs, but there were chairs available had guests needed them.
We are dinners elsewhere, but the lunch and included breakfast buffet that we had were very good.
The hotel worked with us to get taxis for when we went to dinner, even though we went out Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for dining.
The bar staff was engaging and friendly, as were all of the staff for our entire stay.
We would stay there again, as well as recommend it to others.
First of all, I want to thank Enzo for an amazing management service. We requested a corner unit and we got exactly what we asked for. Our flight was so delayed the last day and he let us stayed until the evening without extra charge. I had traveled all over the world, staying in all types of accommodations but had never experienced such courtesy.
The rest of the staff from the front reception to restaurant were all polite, courteous, and helpful. Any questions, requests were responded promptly and pleasantly. Nothing was too much trouble for them at all. The building is a little dated but very clean. Our unit was cleaned daily. The garden is so beautiful. The pool is nice even though we didn't use it at all. The beach in front of the hotel is pretty for sun bathing. For swimming we went to Playa Ballenas- 5 mins walk to the left.
Breakfast was included in the rate with coffee, juice, fruit, bread and croissants, jams, cereals, cheese, cold cuts, bacon or ham, and daily local food such as cassava or lentils. We loved the crepes and pancakes that were freshly made at the egg station.
The location is prefect for walking to town: 10 minute to the right. We went there a few times to the bank, even walked all the way to the Lindo ( super market). 5-7 mins to the left you got a beautiful beach.
We enjoyed our stay tremendously. We went to visit other beaches, wondered to town, walked by other hotels and resorts but always looked forward to come back to our apartment. There is a very relaxing feel to the place. Highly recommend it.
Thanks again Enzo!
We will definitely be back! We were looking for a beach vacation and this definitely delivered. Large apartments, on-site restaurant, a beach, pool, walking distance to town and a staff that was incredibly accommodating. We loved that it was not crowded this time of year, and it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. So pleasantly surprised! There really isn’t anything I would have done differently other than schedule some time at the spa. If you’re looking for a small resort and a low-key vibe, this is it.
My husband and I just arrived home from a 7 days at Allisey in Las Terrenas. The Hotel is located in front of a pretty blue water beach and from our room we could see the waves and the pretty Palm trees. The room was very cleaned every day. Its not a 4 or 5 star hotel but its good. Nothing fancy but very simple. I expected that the studios to be a little more romantic since its for couples.Other apartments are bigger for families. The hotel does not offer any entertainment at night to the guests, such as music or anything. The surround area is very pretty with beautiful tropical flowers and trees. They do allow dogs and cats, and they are everywhere. I didn't like the fact that I found animal crap on the grass around the pool. The first two nights we ate at Baraonda, the food was very good but after that it was not. I ordered the tropical rice and was hard and not tasty, the chicken and beef was not freshly grilled and it was hard as a rock. The food doesn't seem to be cooked fresh but just microwaved. Coffee was really good. Luis and Rosa were the best, always friendly and worked hard to make us comfortable. Luis makes the best Pina Colada ever! The center of the town is very noisy with loud motorcycles running around. The main St is kind of dirty and things are very expensive. They charge you for such simple hat the same price or higher as you are in Manhattan. It sounds like there is always someone trying to rip you off if you try to purchase something. One coconut can go from 1 to 5 dollars, at the same town at the beach. Its a place where you can not trust anyone. Anyway, the beaches are beautiful, specially Punta Poppy, and we had a good time walking around the beaches and staying away from the busy town.
