How to Get There
Staff was great, hotel was clean, location is amazing, breakfast is good. Would recommend! Only 2 things that could be improved: finding a way to keep out the loud, late weekend party noise and replace the sagging mattress.
Visited Albachiara Hotel for 2 nights and had a blast. We had a room with an ocean view across the street. Granted, it is a busy street but that is to be expected when you are in popular Island cities. The beach across from the hotel is fine but a walk or drive in either direction can give you beautiful beaches too. The rooms are with kitchen, lounge areas and pool and bar. The included breakfast is yummers. It is close to the main drag of town. The front rooms were not the quietest due to the street but we had fun staying there
Very friendly and accommodating staff checked me in and responded to questions during my stay. And it is a great location across the busy road from the sea, but not a good beach. It is very close to the center of the tourist area of La Terrena (as the locals say), and good beaches are only 5 minutes walk in either direction. But it is very close to the fish mongers who butcher fish with flourish every morning on make-shift tables and cutting boards.
The breakfast was excellent with an incredible view of the sea, The staff were very responsive to me and prepared excellent omelets each day to go with at least a dozen other breakfast items and fresh juices. Of course, the Dominican coffee was superb.
My apartment had no view (except from porch to pool or bedroom to back drive). Be sure to get ocean view when booking. I had a huge cockroach in the bathroom. Not a problem for me, but your sensibilities might vary. I had no cleaning service one of the days. I guess I could have asked for it, but I was surprised about this, given the cost relative to other local hotel prices.
So, very nice hotel with good amenities, but sketchy on insects and views. Helpful staff and great location relative to the main drag of the town. Be sure to get out of the tourist area! Go south and enjoy the local culture and see how real people in RD actually live.
I have no idea what some of the others who complained are talking about. I found the hotel, grounds, staff, room, and breakfast to be an excellent value!
The grounds were maintained DAILY; after every brief rains, staff were immediately outside sweeping away any water that collected on the walkways and around the pool.
ALL the staff were very friendly and helpful! Milka helped me with my French, Laura and Ronnie were so kind and patient with my non-existent Spanish, the female bartender makes wicked Capirinias (that's a huge compliement).
The room cleaning staff put flowers all around my room the first night I check in. Midway in my 2 week stay, the room cleaning staff refreshed the stunning bouquet of local flowers on my terrace table.
There were toiletries and soap, but I brought plenty of my own so I didn't use theirs.
The mini-kitchen had everything one would need to fix a nice meal -- note that ovens don't seem to be popular in LT. Not an issue for me, just an observation.
The towels, sheets, and blanket were of typical hotel quality; they were more than ok for me. I'm a very finicky sleeper when it comes to pillows and usually bring my own, which I did this time. I'm glad I did. The pillows seemed of very good quality, but were much too firm for me.
Breakfast was ssooooOooooOoo good. I wish they offered a light dinner service, but there are dozens of restaurants in such an easy walking distance.
NOTE: in the 2 weeks I was in Las Terrenas, I ate out for lunches and dinners. For dinners, I don't believe I ever ordered an entry, just an appetizer -- the portions would have been to large for me to finish!
We stayed here for a month in a one bedroom apartment and enjoyed almost everything about the hotel. Spacious private balcony, separate kitchen/living room, and good air conditioning in the bedroom made for a comfy stay. The housekeeping/ grounds keeper do an immaculate job. Good complimentary breakfast on a balcony overlooking the ocean was a bonus. Staff were friendly, any maintenance issue was taken care of right away, and a late checkout was easily arranged. Internet access could be spotty at times, but hey you should be checking out the scenery, not your screen, and websites would load eventually.
Shade around the pool and beach is a little hard to come by if you are not a sun lover, so a few more umbrellas or palapas would be nice.
