How to Get There
Even before our vacation started, the staff at the Reefs reached out to make our stay more comfortable. The communication far preceded any place I’ve been in the entire world! They had me feeling so at ease — setting up transportation to the hotel — even confirming twice before our departure.
Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a super sweet Bellman named Glenn, who took us under his wing. We were also greeted with complimentary Rum Swizzles. The check in process went smoothly and Chris answered all of our questions. Our room was upgraded from a poolside to a cliff side (which was far better!) waking up to that view and sunrise was priceless. And hearing the ocean at night put us right to bed.
Coconuts bar had delicious drinks and food (in fact I never had a bad meal in the property everything was so delicious) Lena, our server, made us feel at home and was so patient with my mom.
The private beach access sold me on this property (as many places do not have)
I truly felt like I was staying with family all week. Edwina gave us tips during our first Bermudian breakfast (which was delicious! Please try it all mashed up with mayo) and was nothing but kind. She truly should be recognized as one of your most valuable employees. Frederika, one of our nighttime turn down service maids was sweet as can be and we had so many laughs before Bedtime.
Afternoon tea is at 4pm with complimentary snacks, there’s a rum swizzle party. This place is worth the price.
My husband and I just got back yesterday from the Reefs. Top notch service from everyone. Our room overlooked the pool and the beach. The views are amazing. The staff were so friendly from the grounds-people to the service staff. Our room was beautiful and has turn down service at night which we appreciated. Ate mostly on the property. The spa was wonderful also. I cannot believe anyone could complain about their stay. The negative thing we found was the cost of the drinks were high as were the menu prices but it is an island so everything is imported.
Overall we had an excellent first trip to Bermuda and The Reefs staying 4 nights, 11/8-11/12. We were celebrating our 10-year anniversary and wanted a quiet, clean resort with a beautiful beach and view from our room. In those aspects, The Reefs did not disappoint. Others commented in their reviews how staff went over above and beyond to remember their names, requests etc. but we did not have this same experience. While the staff and service was very good, I didn't feel they went above and beyond. Several times we sat upwards of 10 minutes before we were greeted at our table. The bell staff forgot our bags the last day. The hot tub was freezing one day and we couldn't find a staff member for the life of us to ask to turn it up. Not huge deals but all worth mentioning.
Our cliffside room, although small, was clean and offered an unbeatable view. The restaurants offered excellent food although I wish there were a few more choices on the menus. It was the beginning of the off-season, so the resort was quiet and entertainment was minimal. The beach staff seemed disinterested but you could flag them down for drinks and/or food should you choose. The free beach equipment was a great plus. Spa experience was lovely.
We arranged airport transportation through the resort and it was painless. (Stop at the Modern Mart on the way to the hotel to stock up on waters, snacks, and drinks.) We rented a Twizy one day and it was the best part of our trip. If you are considering it, just do it! St. George's was absolutely gorgeous and worth the visit. Visited Henry VIII twice and although it had great people-watching, the food was just so-so. It was nice that it was in walking distance and had a small convenience store attached.
We would most likely return to The Reefs, it's location and beach can't be beat!
We visited this property from November 7-13, 2018 for our 1 year wedding anniversary.
At price per night, it is almost robbery to have people stay at this hotel. The positive part, the service was GREAT except the beach staff, it is as if we were bothering them to place an order. One young man(his name is long and hyphenated) was so rude that my husband decided to get up and go directly to the bar. Also, we had a cliffside room and the view was awesome. That's where the quality ends at this place.
entire property needs updating, terribly, or the price needs to be reduced. This is NOT 5 start accommodations, you can see cracked walls, chipped paints and loud noises due to older AC units and dingy doors separating the rooms. The accommodations are DINGY and in some places, you get the odor that accompanies a property of this age.
The food? The breakfast buffet was good and probably the only reason why we didn't starve. Not because of how expensive the food was but how "blah" it was especially given the price. The restaurant menus were standard and the food was poorly prepared.
Finally, guests are allowed to smoke anywhere on the property. As a pregnant woman(there are pregnant women vacationing all over the island for the obvious reasons) I found this to be so frustrating. Needless to say, I will not be back!
Looked at 5 different resort hotels on the island in this price range. Am extremely happy with the choice to stay at The Reefs. As the title says it was quality from start to finish.
The location is awesome on the south shore with both sunrise and sunset. The beach and pools sitting 75 feet above the ocean are stunningly beautiful. The condition and amenities of the hotel equal anything - anywhere in the world we've stayed. The restaurants serve the gamut from a great breakfast buffet to a midday beach nosh to an elegant dinner. The vibe is casual throughout and certainly not as stuffy as Bermuda has a reputation for.
All these may be great reasons to visit but the biggest incentive I have to return was the staff. They are personable, cheerful, helpful and make a point of not only remembering your name but your favorites, your routine, and previous requests. This is a sign of hiring the right people and then training them in the art of hospitality and service.
One tip for those looking to book - Poolside rooms are very nice however next time I'll book a cliffside room for a sense of quiet and solitude. While The Reefs is a great hotel for a relaxing vacay, they can't account for some of their guests who think they're in Cancun on spring break.
