How to Get There
The room was terrific with an exceptional ocean view. Stay in one of the cottages nearest to the restaurants. The hotel is run by an Italian fellow who is absolutely fantastic and hospitable. He also owns a few of the restaurants; 2 of which I highly recommend not on the compound, Blu and Fourways. The food is superb. The wine is expensive and unremarkable, however the ambiance and service more than make up for it.
My family has stayed at Elbow Beach Bermuda Resort many times. Our stay has always been for 8 nights and we usually rent out 4-5 rooms each visit. The beach is great for kids and the staff has always been friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, with new management/owernship late last year, the condition of the rooms has declined. There was a lounge chair missing from our room, the handle of one of the showers kept falling off, there were dead and alive roaches in the room and the backing of the lock on our door was broken off, exposing batteries. The pool had tiles missing and the cardio equipment in the fitness center was rusted on the handles. Often, the housekeeping staff did not have towels available when servicing our room and had to deliver them later. My mother-in-law kept running out of toilet paper and had to take extra rolls from our room. For a luxury resort where we paid a lot of money to stay, these issues should never happen. Management really needs to address these issues or they will loose returning families, like ours.
We just came back from 5 nights here. While not the fanciest hotel in the world, the beach is beautiful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We had an ocean view room and had a great view of the porch from our porch. The resort (like much of Bermuda) is super hilly. There is a shuttle to take you around if you don't want to walk. The hotel is extremely spacious (52 acres we were told) and it never felt crowded. The pool was a good size and completely empty when we walked by it one day. You do not need to show up at the beach at 7 a.m. like many hotels to get decent seats on the beach . We showed up at noon one day and still got a seat, no problem. The spa was wonderful with the staff being very polite and friendly. My only comment is that the front desk and concierge were not very helpful or knowledgeable. We called a few times with questions and they never knew the answers and said they'd get back to us and most of the time never called back. The concierge was able to get us reservations at a restaurant off the resort on short notice though. One note, everything at the resort is very expensive (like much of the island). We would come back and stay here again!
We are just returning from a trip to Elbow beach. We always stay at 5 star hotels when we travel as a family. That being said, we have traveled the world and stayed in very many nice hotels and resorts. We like the assurance that the hotel will be clean, family friendly, attentive service, & great food. Elbow Beach is absolutely great location. But as stated in all the comments below, it is desperate need of a facelift! We purchased the largest house on the property for 7 days. The daily cleaning of the home was none existent. The only thing that is done is the bed is made and new towels delivered. Meaning by day 3 at the beach the floors are covered in sand... we also killed a massive cockroach in the home, which was never picked up by house keeping (it sat in the hallway for 5 days)
The beach chairs are not up to 5 star standard as they where very uncomfortable and cheap looking. Nether is the beach side service, they had 1-2 individuals for the whole beach. Meaning it took a hour to place a order.
We had dinner at all 3 restaurants none of which we were impressed with. The food was once again at best a 3 star rating in my book. But priced at a 5.
On Friday nights a DJ comes and plays music at Sea Breeze. Which is great except this goes on until midnight and it is EXTREMELY loud. For individuals seeking the quite luxury of a 5 star hotel this is infuriating. Also made it hard for our children to fall asleep.
We hate that this hotel was not what we expected. We highly recommend the island of Bermuda! It is absolutely beautiful with some of the kindest locals we have ever encountered. There may have been a time where Elbow Beach Resort was a 5 star hotel. But it no longer is meeting that standard.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at elbow Beach Resort. We stayed in the basic room, which was more than we could imagine, very spacious with large bathroom and little patio area too. The rooms are on winding road/hill side, so it can be a bit of a walk to get to and from the beach but there area free shuttles available as needed. Our only complaints would be the wait staff were very slow or pre occupied so it often too a while to get drinks or food at the hotel bar/restaurants. The beach is impeccable, chairs available, very quite and games/ activities available. The price was a bit high and I don't think we would return as the accomodations were great but not out of the world (resort prices -- 17$ USD for a spirit drink, 110$ USD for two eggs benedict, two coffees and toast). Would recommend based on the beach and the nice rooms, but price is steep. Only 10 minute drive to Hamilton too.
