How to Get There
This was a fantastic place to stay. Not only is it on the beach, but the customer service at the front desk was wonderful. I could give this place six stars...I could write a book on this place since my family enjoyed it so much. Remember though, you get more, when you pay more. It's on the beach and there are a few restaurants on the property. Be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars per day on restaurants alone. In the end, it's worth it...so memorable. There was renovation on the top floors on the main bulding...therefore, I recommend the Lanai rooms. There are several, very nice, clean and quiet. Have fun, we did.
The hotel was empty. The pool bar closed at 4:30 or 5 everyday. The restaurants were great but expensive. We got an off season rate but because it was low season not much going on. Very clean and the staff was great!! Beach was the best I have ever seen. The sand was so soft.
- poor service from receptionist and concierge - very unpleasant staff
- Bathroom door does not fully close
- Check in time later than expected
- Poor room quality & dirty
- Look and feel of hotel is misleading from photos
- Outdated hotel that seems to be falling apart - misrepresentation
When we first got to Elbow Beach, the service at the receptionist desk was poor from the start. We traveled since 6 am and arrived right at 3 PM for check in. The receptionist told us our room was not ready, that our check in was at 4pm (this was false information) and didn’t give us an approximation of when it will be ready. She told us to just go enjoy ourselves without any information so we could plan our day. It seemed like an automated reply because she repeated herself 3 times. It was unprofessional and rude to not treat your customers with respect and let them know when they can anticipate to relax. Also our room should have been ready at 3pm. We didn’t receive any further information about the hotel, property, or amenities and we lost desire to ask due to the tone used by the receptionists.
When our room was finally ready, closer to 5pm, it was disgusting. The room was nothing like in the picture (small) and the bathroom door did not even close fully. The outdoor patio lounge chairs were filthy with bird feces and cigarette burn marks. It was so frustrating that after a whole day of traveling, our room was only ready at 5PM and it was disgusting.
The new room they put us in, was slightly better but the bathroom door didn’t close either. My friend and I already compromised on a king size bed and it was uncomfortable for us to use the bathroom with the door ajar. The bell man who took our luggage to our room, was careless with them. He pulled them by the retractable handle to the point where I thought they will break. When he took the sticker off my suitcase, he left a sticker mark on the handle which I had to spend 10 minutes rubbing off.
We asked for another room for which they told us we had to wait another hour. They only offered us a free drink at the lounge area. In my opinion, for the type of service and inconvenience they caused, they could have comped us a bit better. They also did not apologize even once.
To top off the poor experience we had at Elbow Beach hotel, the receptionist and concierge services were subpar. When we asked to make a reservation to a must try restaurant, they called them and handed us the phone to make our own reservation! I am not paying to be in a room that is not accompanying to their customer’s needs. When we tried to call the concierge from the room on another occasion, no one picked up.
The overall look and feel for the hotel was rundown and outdated. Tiles at the outdoor beach showers were falling off. The stones and paint was coming off the stairs. The grout was visibly dirty and aged. The marble was brown. The hotel room furniture seemed to be decorated from the first settlers of Bermuda. We also tried to use the shuttle service on a couple occasions by requesting them to pick us up from the restaurant on premises (the walk is uphill and long) but they never arrived or arrived after a very long time. Since we traveled during off season and the hotel was more than half empty we did not expect the service to be so slow.
Upon check out, the receptionist didn’t ask us about our stay and we didn’t have a chance to tell them what was wrong with our stay. I will never stay at the hotel and not recommend it to any of my friends or family that frequently travel to Bermuda. My business has been lost.
