How to Get There
I found Crystal Cove to be one of the better hotels in Barbados. My friend and I had a wonderful time. The hotel is very nice, with the best views ever! The views were stunning and the best part. The staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful as well. The rooms were very nice too, a good size. The restaurant food was tasty. They had so many complimentary watersports to do also. We truly had a great time! I wouldn't stay anywhere else!
we arrived, were shown to some seats to sort out the paperwork and given a fruit punch and a cold towel to cool us down after a long journey was most welcome. the hotel isn't huge so the rooms are never very far from everything. ours was right beside the cave bar on ground level. it was modern, very clean and the mini bar was stocked daily with water.
The staff here are all sooo friendly and helpful. they go out of their way to help you. were told how to operate the yellow local buses into bridgetown (get on quick, sit down and hold on tight!) they would always remember what id had to drink and keep my glass topped up!
the beach was always kept clean. we did not have a problem with seaweed which we had heard other hotels in barbados were having , the staff even came around and brushed off the sand from our chairs! plus bringing down to the beach trays of drinks for us to go and help ourselves from. They also bought us fruit and cookies and at 3.50 we had lollies bought to our beds! so we were well looked after! the chair themselves on the beach had hoods that pulled over so you could pull them up to get some shade which were really good.if you want to lay by the pools then there are parasols there to go under.
They have 2 restaurants .reflections where you have breakfast.. you canchoose in the morning which restaurant you would like to go to. the menus are there for you. at lunchtime you cn sit in reflections and have a buffet meal that you help yourself to..or otherwise go to drifer and they have a small choice there or burgerts etc cooked on bbq for you.
Night time they have different people coming into sing or play instruments etc. it is very low keyed. but most people are up early and retire early after having a few drinksoutside in the gardens or in the cave bar.
Had a lovely stay.. definately recommend it and will try and return soon .
We moved to Crystal Cove for the last part of our Barbados holiday this year, staying 3 nights. The hotel is situated on the coast road on the west side of the island, which is “wall to wall hotels”. The beaches on the west side of the island benefit from a prevailing off-shore wind meaning flat seas, which are idyllic clear and blue - this is what drew us to the area.
The hotel itself sits on the cliffs and is built on several levels, adding to the charm. Rooms are in small blocks of mainly 4-6 with the main hotel area being open.
Facilities in some areas are showing their age, however our rooms were absolutely fine. It seems a little odd to have beach towels delivered to the room when you will probably be out of the room with your towel..... at other places you just get one at the pool or beach area.
The food was above average and better than the previous all inclusive resort we stayed at. A conventional menu is available at one restaurant whilst a buffet-style is done nearer the beach. Service over the weekend was not fantastic in the restaurant, lacking a little direction, but otherwise staff were all friendly and did a great job to make us feel relaxed.
The beach and Watersports facilities were as described and staff were always helpful. The snorkelling by the rocks to the south of the hotel was excellent with a wide variety of fish to see without going out of your depth.
We particularly liked the coffee & cocktail bar near reception - it’s a pity the coffee side wasn’t open longer hours (mid-morning onwards perhaps).
Overall a great hotel that I would happily go back to.
We stayed at Turtle Beach on the South Coast but visited Crystal Cove for a day during our holiday. Whilst I cannot therefore comment on the accommodation side of things and rooms etc. We did use the beach and facilities and had lunch there and so I wanted to write a quick review based on those things.
The South coast is having some real bad issues with seaweed, which is no fault of any of the hotels but wasn’t really the crystal blue sea that we were expecting when we booked our holiday so we decided to do a day trip to Crystal Cove so that we could swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water. We had been torn between the two hotels when booking and had decided on Turtle Beach as there seemed to be more around the St. Lawrence Gap area.
On arrival we were given a friendly greeting by reception staff and told to use the facilities as we chose.
We were impressed with the hotel, it was spotlessly clean and quite different to Turtle Beach in its bright colours and layout. The pools were quite small but they were very nice and had a lot of character.
The beach was lovely, compared to the beaches on the south at the moment it was a breath of fresh air to be able to swim and snorkel. I’m not sure even when there isn’t seaweed if we would have been able to snorkel on the south coast due to the strong currents but we knew this before booking. There were quite a lot of rocks in the water on one side of the beach but there was a nice flat area to swim in on the other, although this area was a little on the small side.
We didn’t use the water sports or the water taxi due to time really but would definitely have made use of these if we had of been staying at the hotel for the whole duration of our stay. They looked a lot of fun and the sea there was so calm.
We ate lunch in the reflections restaurant which was nice as we didn’t have an a la carte lunch option at Turtle Beach so this made a change. There were sandwich options as well as fish and hotdogs etc. All things which you can get for lunch at Turtle Beach, albeit buffet style. The evenings are more of the a la carte focus there.
In summary it’s difficult to compare the two hotels as Turtle Beach are having such problems with the seaweed that it would be unfair to compare. However we do like to try different things and rarely visit the same place twice so would consider booking Crystal Cove if we came to Barbados in the future. We liked the beach, we liked the food and think we would enjoy a holiday on the west coast for a different experience to the south coast.
The only slight criticism I had is that I felt the staff at Turtle Beach were friendlier by a mile. We couldn’t fault their service during our stay. Whether it is because we were visitors at Crystal Cove and not actually paying guests or whether just an off day, we found the staff to be a little distant and nowhere near as friendly, which is a shame as that’s the thing we enjoyed most about Barbados, the great Bajan people.
We have been to Barbados many times before, but never stayed at Crystal Cove. And previously we did not have our 6 month old baby with us!
Before we booked I read many reviews, I was leaning towards booking due to the complimentary feedback I read. However was concerned about the accommodation. I contacted the hotel myself to ask about accommodation and baby essentials. The general manager responded putting me at ease.
When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed like we had been there before, such a lovely way to start the holiday!
Our room was a garden room (room 111) , ground floor and was one of them which had been upgraded and refurbished. The first things I noticed was the proper cot with bumpers and a mosquito net, a Dr Browns steriliser and a baby bath! I didn’t request any of these items and I was esctstic they had been provided. The furnishings were modern, bed queen size and so comfy! The bathroom was lovely and the walk in shower was powerful and very large.
The dressing gown and slippers are always a nice touch and were used straight away.
There was a fridge with some water, stocked daily.
The patio doors opened to a small veranda with chairs and a table, and you could see the sea.
We were unpacking our luggage and there was a knock at the door, it was a present for our baby girl from the kids club. How sweet!
The restaurants on the complex were reflections where you had breakfast and optional for lunch and dinner. Then drifters which was for lunch and on occasions dinner. There was also vista coffee shop which served afternoon tea.
The food was average and then one factor which could let this great hotel down. The breakfasts were great, lunch we found to be hit and miss, with the drifters buffet being limited, not always being ready or open for lunch, the chefs also were not friendly when we tried to place orders for fish kebabs etc.
A few changes with the menu and service and it would be great.
The reflections restaurant for dinner was always nice, however we always ate quite late due to jet lag and the baby. We found the food to be like warm, and the food on some stations had ran out. If the restaurant is open till 9.30pm food should be available all through the opening hours.
On one night we ordered room service, no charge just a tray charge. The food was lovely!
We found out right at the end of the holiday we could of paid a charge to have our mini bar stocked. Next time I will do this, as we were caught with no drinks one night and had to boil water in the kettle and let it cool!
The cocktails are just divine, I think I drank rum punch like water and tried all the others.
The staff at this hotel are just fabulous, I had read reviews about them but they really do make your holiday. The gardeners keeping everything so tidy always said hello, the waitresses and hostesses at the restaurants were fantastic (I have been to many other hotels in Barbados and the staff have never been this nice!), our beach/pool servers Ranza and Krystal were just amazing, all day from 10am the drinks kept coming, they also brought fruit orcookies for elevenses and ice lollies around 3pm. I felt pampered and relaxed just by being waited on all day and not having to go to the bar once.
Our maid Juliet was a star, so lovely and cleaned the room amazingly. Our turn down service maid was fantastic aswell.
The conceierge was so helpful, we booked the oistins shuttle with them and also when we visited restaurants outside the hotel they arranged transport.
The hotel is in walking distance to the Cliff, other lovely restaurants surround the hotel and a taxi can take you.
The beach was beautiful, the sea was like a lake! So calm and great to take the baby into. We snorkelled around the rocks and saw some great fish. The beach chairs did look old and the cushions dirty. But one day I saw a member of staff cleaning the chairs and he said they get done every week. He said the birds mess the chairs and that’s why they look dirty
The entertainment was mostly singers and was background music to our dinners.
Kids club did not get our custom, as we didn’t even think to go there as the baby just slept. However the lovely staff came and found us! And let us know all the wonderful activities they had. So nice of them!
Overall would we go back? Yes 100%. I want to go back this year! I have never left a place and felt really sad to leave, however I did at Crystal Cove.
Yes the food could be improved, but the whole relaxed atmosphere, the genuine care from the staff and the beautiful location makes this place a real gem.
A big thank you to Sophia Babb and her wonderful staff! We can’t wait to return!
