How to Get There
Yet another super holiday in paradise! It has beautiful gardens making it a peaceful haven with a fantastic beach and yet it's near Hoteltown which has a good buzz. The food is consistently good and staff are extremely welcoming. The Colony Club has now become our winter "home".
Now back in cold London having left Crystal Cove yesterday. Already thinking about another visit. This is a very pretty, laid back resort on the stunning and more secluded west coast. It creates a gentle, relaxed ambience with its beautiful gardens, a lovely clean beach with plenty of sun beds and three attractive pools. We enjoyed all the hotel’s facilities(including the gym) and water sports and found the variety and quality in both restaurants to be above what we expected. There were both à la carte and buffet options.
What makes this resort truly special is the friendly and informative staff led by a very professional but approachable manager- the lovely Sophia. All the staff were wonderful so it seems unfair to name individuals but a few standouts were Dawna in Reflections, Raheem in Vista, Stephen and Rayna on the beach and Sherisse in Drifters. Excellent hotel.
From the moment we arrived 10 night ago the staff of the hotel could not have been more accommodating and attentive.
The hotel is beautifuly set out and the beach is lovely. Really tranquil.
The food is excellent and most nights we ate in the Drifters restaurant down by the beach.
Our room no 225 had an amazing setting overlooking the beach and was clean and tidy. The bathroom was the only thing that needs a little attention but it was clean and functional.
The hotel offers a pack lunch service so if you are going out for the day, it’s a perfect solution for lunch.
We hired a car from the hotel and spent the day travelling the island. It really is stunning. This is our first trip to Barbados and will definitely not be our last to both the island and Crystal Cove.
I’m just writing this as I’m waiting to be picked up to be taken to the airport, considering barricading myself into our room 😀
Just got back from a great 10 day break at this resort. This was one of the nicest beach holidays we have ever been on. The hotel is on a lovely beach with comfortable beach loungers. (clean beach towels are provided each day to your room). The staff are very friendly and can’t do enough to help you. Food is very good and reasonably varied.
A good range of watersports are provided by the hotel included in the cost.
While our room was probably coming up for renovation It was kept clean and was comfortable.
There are just two restaurants but you can go to other hotels in the group for a change.
The evening entertainment is provided by bands of a quality ranging from good to very good!
It also has a good gym for all those who get to feel guilty about the level of food and wine they may have consumed.
All in all I would recommend this hotel to any one looking for a relaxing beach hol.
Well this was my Second time at this hotel.
Recently in October I turned 30 and it was also my anniversary so we decided to go back to where we honeymooned (this hotel).
I couldn't think of anything worse than having a 30th birthday "party" in Edinburgh so I needed out and being rich I decided to go back to Barbados because the expression "once in a lifetime experience" makes me sick. its defeatist and its why the SNP are in power in Scotland.
So like I said we honeymooned here and back then it was 5/5 amazing great holiday.
Since then though my expectations were perhaps different now and it didn't really feel 5 star or I don't know as good as it did.
I liked it hence the 4 star rating. So the good points.
Staff- These guys are great. Shout out to my main man Raheem, Top guy.
The drinks. Were good the new cocktail bar is spot on.
Water sports- Great the guys are top guys the water is perfect and warm its all great.
Location- Close enough to the Ralph Lauren shop (bus ride.. read on)
The parrot weather man on the tv- This guys a legend I could watch this all day.
Family Fued- Steve Harvey is my man too. Always on I like this show.
AC- AC was Crispy and fresh.
Additional touches- My man at reception (forgot his name but another top guy) sorted us out with a bottle of Champagne which was actually real (sadly we live in a world now where people think Prosecco is champagne). As we were returning and there for a special occasion. This was great until my wife got drunk told me she wanted a kid and kind of put a downer on the first night. Sunset though was beautiful.
Birthday cake for my birthday- Nice touch-
Card, Special treatment in the dining room. All nice touches.
Stone message in the pool. I like it.
Not so good points-
Food- Now I see what they are doing here. Its like A la cart every night which is very nice and tasty HOWEVER I like sneaking a second dinner in when im on holiday I want to eat till I can't walk. Unfortunately possibly due to the hotel being renovated so less occupants the buffet wasn't opened as well.
The portions were pretty small so I actually came home and lost weight on my holiday (might be a good thing).
There was also a lack of food though the day you basically just had breakfast and lunch and dinner that was it. Breakfast was top notch though.
Rooms- they are renovating so that's good as our room looked dated if im honest.
So I wanted to go to the Ralph Lauren shop which was like 15 mins on a yellow school bus thing. This was fun but very dangerous feeling. On the way back it was JAM packed and we were standing and falling like on peoples laps. Maybe get a taxi.
We shared a cab with a couple who told us they wanted to jump in our cal as they basically got robbed (I guess the guy wasn't very good so they never got robbed properly) so yeah don't walk after dark.
The beaches used to be a lot worse with constant harassment however its not so bad now.
OISTINS- This place is a joke and a total tourist trap. Read the one star reviews before going. It annoys me all the snowflakes and fluffs wanting to "get down with the locals" the locals go here on a Friday night to only because tourists go. The place is worse than a Haven caravan park. Don't go.
Barbados to me has lost its edge. What makes it great is sadly other peoples perception of it. Drop the B bomb in covo and it ratifies peoples opinion of you being mega rich.
if I go back to Barbados for the "Jealousy factor" (im going to trademark that) then sadly id need to pay considerably more and go to a better hotel.
Pound for pound these days Mexico is have of the price but double the quality.
Barbados is reminding me of Tenerife now and you know 5 star there isn't really 5 star. They just handed the ratings out like sweets in Spain and now the island is old and lost its edge. I think Barbados will go the same way over the next 10-15 years. if abarbods tourism people are reading this you need to keep renewing and innovating as Mexico has taken you over.
Thanks again for the visit. Who knows I might return again the holiday is good value.
Memory wise and people wise you are truly special.
