How to Get There
Stayed here 2 years ago and was very happy to be back. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, but what stood out this time was the restaurant. Here the food was very good and the service exceptional. We were very well looked after - thank you. La Pagerie is well located near to a bustling village and easy access to the ferry to Fort de France. Rooms are spacious and well serviced.
The staff was especially helpful with minor difficulties, (room keys, adapters, getting taxi, extra towels, and even the manager offering to walk to two different ATM machines to see if she could help me get Euros. Even though our attempts were unsuccessful, the assistance was greatly appreciated!) Staff in dining room was extremely helpful and friendly. Pool was immaculate. Garden care was done without a lot of noise at any time. Very unusual, in my experience. Barman Umberto was a gracious and attentive host to my friend and I for the six days we spent almost entirely at the pool as we chilled out. I recommend this hotel for a truly low-key, very relaxed vacation. Some evenings there was very nice entertainment: dancers and a band; a small combo; a solo jazz keyboardist. Enjoyed the once a month market hosted at the hotel and made numerous purchases of artists' creations. While not on a beach, it was only a short walk away. Location was excellent to walk to restaurants and little shops. Our goal was to just relax, extending our stay five days after an 8 day tour that stayed at the same hotel. Great choice!
The rooms are large and clean. The A/C works great and so does the fridge. The bathroom is spacious and the shower is large and drains well. Though it is not on the beach, the location is great. It is across from a shopping and dining area open seven days a week and well into the evening. The ferry dock is only a block away and the ferries run on schedule. There are two public beach accesses one block in either direction. (The beach access across from the ferry docks is a little farther, but leads to a lovely beach with three shallow lagoons opening into the bay.) The hotel grounds are beautifully landscaped. The breakfast includes eggs, sausage or bacon, cheeses, cold meats, yogurt, homemade yogurt, jams, breads and pastries. During our stay there was an additional Traditional Creole Breakfast and the traditional pastry, Galette des Rois, on January 6th (Epiphany). There is a very fancy coffee/tea/hot milk/espresso/hot chocolate machine. There are a variety of evening programs in the lobby ranging from folk dancing to floral arranging and how to make Planters' Punch. The room balconies have a table, chairs, and a drying rack for swimsuits and towels.
Our only suggestion would be that the bathrooms could use a ventilator fan, and it would be nice if (most) desk clerks were more fluent in English.
Nice rooms and helpful reception staff here.
The pool area is really quite good.
There are quite a few places to eat in the immediate area.
The beach nearest to it is not very nice and you would be mad to spend time there cosnidering the other places you could go on the island.
Some of the staff have a the prevailing French Caribbean attitude - brusque.
The hotel could make a good base if you had a hire car
This was one of 4 hotels we stayed in during our Caribbean walking holiday. It could so easily have been the best, but wasn’t entirely due to the small and uncomfortable beds. The location is good and the food was very good. Rooms are clean, nice pool etc, but the beds were narrow and basic.
