How to Get There
We really enjoyed our stay at the Mine Hotel. All the staff were so very warm, happy and went the extra mile to make our stay memorable.
The location was perfect, bars, restaurants and cafes within easy teach. It seemed a very safe area to walk around at night.
We stayed in 6 hotels whilst in Argentina and the Mine Hotel had the best breakfast by far. Freshly cooked omelettes, egg and bacon etc was such a treat.
It’s also just a 15 minute walk to the subway.
All in all a great little find in a huge city.
As in any major cities, there is always a huge variety of choice/budget for places to stay. Given the edgy nature of Buenos Aires, safety is also a key consideration.
The Mine Hotel is set within the arty/foodie district of Palmero which, whilst some distance from the downtown centre of BA, had a nice feel about it.
Sadly, whilst we were looking forward to our stay, the property is tired and needs both a deep clean & update and the majority of the staff need both direction & training in customer service.
We had three nights at the property and on arrival, after a very long day’s traveling, the receptionist went through the very basics of checking us in without any pleasantries.
Our bedroom was comfortable enough, however the bathroom needed a good deep clean with in-ground dust & grime on many surfaces. The room also does not have well fitted blackout curtains/blinds so if the barking of dogs did not wake you up, the bright light certainly does.
Rather than take the elevator, we choose to walk down the stairs which are the hotel’s fire escape. On each level, at the top of each set of stairs, a spare single bed/mattress was placed - completely unacceptable from a health & safety perspective as both a trip and fire hazard.
Breakfast was disappointing. Far too many items cramped on a small buffet with no cold surfaces nor covers for items like cheese, ham & yoghurts. Coffee was pre-brewed and then just heated up by the steamer on the coffee machine. Dirty plates & glasses were not cleared from the tables and the two staff rarely ventured from beyond the breakfast bar nor engaged with the guests.
On our last day we decided to have a relaxing few hours in the bar/lounge area. We ordered drinks and were the only two in the bar, yet, after serving our drinks, the barman did not come from behind the bar to ask us if would we would like another drink for the whole two hours we were there. Sadly this was indicative of how the staff operate - just do the very basics.
In my opinion, the hotel needs to close for two weeks to carry out deep-cleaning & maintenance, concurrent to undertaking staff training in great customer service.
From our experience, I would not recommend.
Excellent staff, room , location, for this price range, will stay there again, Palermo is good location to base day trips, room was very clean, good restaurant 1/2 block away, staff even returned my pen I left at desk, speak English , very helpful, my Spanish was a bit rusty
A comfortable hotel, in a trendy and well placed location giving easy walking access to bars and restaurants in the Palermo Soho district.
The hotel is ok, a nice little bar area and the the outside pool, but everywhere felt like it needed a damn good clean and a bit of love and energy brought back to it.
It is grubby round the edges. For example, the pool area was dressed with towels by a lady, she simply placed the towels on the sun bed and ignore the leaves and bird droppings on them. The bar area, the floor was never properly clean, and the breakfast buffet bar was wiped down with a very dodgy grey cloth. The rooms never felt properly cleaned, the bathroom particularly which had thick dust around the cupboards and on the lighting. The wall tiles were pink with the grime of soap build up, which I could remove by rubbing with my finger, so really it’s just attention to detail. The ironing board that was brought to our room was disgraceful, stained and torn and bent out of shape.
The staff were relatively indifferent, no assistance offered unless asked for. The bar staff I would go so far as to lazy. We ordered two gin and tonics, which were carried from the bar to the lounge without a tray, then passed to us over the back of the sofa rather than walks round and place on the table in front of us. No coaster, no nibbles, nothing.
The breakfast staff never came from behind the counter at all, and never cleared tables.
The reception staff smiled and were ok, but again you had to ask for everything. No offer of a map, or assistance with booking etc, unless you asked them.
You get the feeling that there is no management, and no one cares for the property, they just go thought the motions with the least effort.
All a bit tired, as mentioned it is all a it grubby, the lift hadn’t been cleaned in a long long time. The water that was provided often was empty. The decor was scratched and worn, again just needed some love and attention.
It is well located and reasonably priced for where it is.
It’s a shame as it could be something very special, it probably once was.
A great vibe to this lovely hotel; all the staff without exception were friendly, helpful and professional and most speak pretty good English; comfortable rooms and common areas, small lovely pool and outdoor sitting area, good breakfasts
