How to Get There
I recently stayed at the Fierro Hotel and had a wonderful time. My room was absolutely great - really well thought out with everything you need. I also dined on two occasions in the hotel restaurant where I had great meals. The staff each went out their way to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. I would definitely return.
This was our second time staying in Fierro hotel and unfortunately it was not as good as the first time (I wrote an earlier review on TA). Upon check-in, we were told that they had no available baby cots as they were not aware we were travelling with a baby (This was completely my fault, I had missed including an infant during booking) so to make up for it they would upgrade us to the best room. Great! Who doesn't like an upgrade! But it goes downhill from there.
The receptionist was friendly enough. I was travelling with my middle-aged mother and my 1 year old daughter. He carried our 6 pieces of luggage (including a carseat) into the small lift. It was quite cramped already and he told us to go ahead as he could not fit into the lift. I assumed he was going to take the stairs and meet us at our room to help bring the luggage to the room, but as the door closed he returned to the counter and I realised I had to push all 6 pieces of luggage from the lift to the room on my own. Not an easy task when there was only two of us and a baby to manage.
The room given was on the 8th floor and the only room on the floor. Its probably the most expensive room offered in Fierro as it had a terrace and hot tub outside. Great if it was summer, pretty pointless considering it was winter with temperatures of less than 10 degrees celcius. So the upgrade was actually a downgrade because the room we had stayed in previously (superior) was much larger than this one. I guess the more expensive price was for the use of the tub, balcony and large amounts of bath salts in the bathroom.
After a long 19 hour flight with a one year old we were looking forward to a hot shower. Unfortunately the water pressure was practically non-existent. It was literally just trickling water. I called the receptionist and he said it was because we were on the highest floor so the pressure would not be so good. Erm. Ok. I also mentioned the towel heater was not working (it wasn´t working the last time either) and the response was that it was turned off because of some problems with previous guests. Hmm. By the time my mother took her shower, there was barely any water coming out from the shower and it wasn´t even hot. Sure, we could have called to change rooms but it was already 10 p.m., we were exhausted, my baby was cranky and we had already unpacked a few suitcases.
The water situation did not improve the next morning. I mentioned it to the receptionist during check out and filled out a form accordingly. She was nice enough to apologise and waive the charges for bringing breakfast to the room. That was nice, but considering that was only 170 peso (around USD9) and the room cost USD170, it did not make up for the unpleasant experiece.
I did not enjoy writing this review since we had such an amazing experience the first time, as evidenced in my first review. Would I stay here again? Probably, but I would check the water pressure before unpacking.
It has all been said before (by the reasonable reviewers not the outliers). This is a charming, well located property with a friendly and accommodating staff. Rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. The in-house restaurant provides excellent food and service at both breakfast and dinner. The wait staff are hard working and really friendly. I must also commend the sommelier who gave me excellent suggestions for purchases made at the wine store next to the lobby.
Fierro Hotel exceeded our expectations on every level during our 4 night stay. Roberto and all of the other staff in both reception and the restaurant were so friendly and helpful. They took a genuine interest in making our visit the best it could possibly be. The breakfast was amazing! It came in two courses - breads, croissant, juices and yogurt with granola and fruit to start. The granola was probably the nicest I’ve ever had. This was followed by a second course which had a range of hot options including a full Irish breakfast! Our room was on the 3rd floor and was fantastic. It had a real wow factor, was spacious and clean. The turn down service included a chocolate each night. The shower had great pressure. We looked forward to returning to our room each night. The hotel is a short walk to some beautiful restaurants in Palermo. There was also a complimentary wine tasting included in our stay which was a great introduction to the rest of our trip. I would highly recommend staying in Fierro Hotel and if I ever return to Buenos Aires, I will be returning to them.
The staff here are really wonderful and the breakfast is amazing. They had a great recommendations on day trips and suggestions on what to do in the city.
The location of the hotel is perfect. It’s in the trendy Palermo near many bars and restaurants. Don’t miss having dinner in the hotel restaurant, Uco. The dinner is great!!
