I picked the hotel des trois couronnes for my last night in Switzerland during my recent visit. I had wanted to stay here on previous visits but I had once or twice finished up in Montreux. I had travelled from Saas Fee and visited also for the first time Leukerbad and the hot springs. later on the same day i made my way by bus and train to Vevey.
Being Winter time it was dark (5 pm) on my arrival I had a rough idea where the hotel was and I walked (a taxi would have been better) to the hotel form the train station.
The porter took my luggage at the hotel entrance I then proceeded to the check in area where the formalities were handled promptly. As it happens the concierge had to organize my early breakfast and departure arrangements for the following day and was keen to get it done at that time in some respects I would have done it a bit later on nevertheless it was organized and a pleasant lady showed me to the room.
It is a 5 star establishment and the room did not disappoint in any way. It was very spacious, high ceilings and very well equipped with nothing omitted. I proceeded to take a long relaxing bubble bath before I when to put on my Robe which was neatly folded up on the bed. Within the robe was a wooden toothbrush in a glass tube with my name on it I thought that was a very nice touch and definitely a first for me.
There was also free water and a free half bottle of white wine in the mini bar. I went downstairs to see if I could get a table for Dinner and the waiter went on to say there were no tables but if you follow me you can eat in the Bar.
I thought that the experience could have been handled better but I suppose if there were no tables then the Bar was it.
Everything was good and the service especially from the Bar manager was good so I then went back to the room for some sleep before a 6am start.
All up it was a wonderful stay I would highly recommend anybody, singles couples families old or young to experience the hotel I didn't have time to visit the Spa so that will have to wait for next time
The Sunday Brunch was in a nice setting and the staff were nice and polite. It is quite expensive (Chf 78), but they charge for water, soft drinks and alcohol so it will be more. We were offered a glass of Prosecco on arrival which was nice, but we are having a dry January so declined and ordered water and a Coke instead (charged for of course). The appetiser table was very good with a selection of meats and seafood. The desert table was also ok with a choice of cakes and pastries. The problem was the main course. There was a choice of Veal, Beef or fish. The only option was beef for us and we both went at separate times to be served. When I went up, the server had the two smallest pieces of beef left on his board and I thought I must be unlucky and he gave them to me. There were no potatoes, just cabbage and lentils. My plate looked (and was) empty. It turns out that I wasn't unlucky with the serving, it happens to everybody and the server deliberately only has two very small pieces of beef on presentation so you don's / can't ask for more... I watched him, it is quite skillful really. It wasn't a main course and as we don't eat much sugary type deserts ended up going out for a proper meal soon afterwards. Having tried pretty much all the big hotel Sunday Brunches in Geneva and Lausanne, this one has been the worst so far and I would recommend the Lausanne Palace if you don't drink alcohol and the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva if you do (because the Champagne is included in the price).
Wonderful old building, which remember a great people like Russian composer Tchaikovsky, German writer Tomas Man and famous photographer Helmut Newton. For Bulgarians interesting is that the last Bulgarian King Simon the Second decided to merry there with his wife Margarita Asebo.
In Louis XV restaurant guests can see hi-tech and old furniture.
I highly recommend this place for romantic weekends or cozy stay
Well located in the city centre and very close to the lake, the hotel offers parking (CHF 30).
It looks old fashioned inside but they try to keep up with new bathroom. Bed was simply so confortable and they have plenty of attention (chocolate, bottle of water, slippers, mobile phone, etc.)
The breakfast was amazing with a view on the lake
The service is somehow not to the expected level. Young men try their best to make you feel that they work for an important hotel. However, I expect to be well served rather than to feel that it is an important place
