We enjoyed our four (4) nights at the beautiful Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola. We found the hotel perfectly located, close to land and water transportation.

Rooms are clean, well appointed, extremely large with loads of amenities including large balconies offering amazing views of Lake Lugano. The management left lots of goodies in our room including a wonderful birthday gift.

After a long day of sightseeing, the spa offers a wonderful indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna including wonderful spa services.

The piano player was one of the surprises to our experience. This is by far one of our favorite hotels in Switzerland!

Cheers to the entire team at Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola! ~

Unique and relaxing hotel

I must say that I fell a bit in love with this hotel. The park in front of it is lovely, and the communal areas are so large and inviting. The rooms are not super modern, but well maintained, charming and super quiet. And the sun in the morning with the view on the park and the lake makes you think you woke up in paradise... The service was very friendly, and the availability of a selection of international newspapers was very nice.

I have stayed at some of the other hotels in town and in comparison this hotel is worth every penny. The hotel is a bit outside the town, but our reservation included a public transport pass which made it easy to avoid the 15 minute walk to town without resorting to taxis. We will certainly be back!

Wonderful place, staff and service ♥️

We didn’t know what to except as we visited all the italien lakes.
As it was the first time in
Lugano we hesitated a lot between several hotels .

I very happy to say that it was the best choice .
Location, hotel, suite, restaurant, food and most kind and very helpful staff.
We can never praise enough the maître d’hôtel who did everything to make us happy and really looked after us.
The waiter at breakfast who spoiled me and give me full attention.

I’m very fussy and demanding and they met all ...

Looking forward to return next year for a longer stay.

not a 5 * hotel

I stayed in this hotel for almost a week and...
+place at the lake with sun deck (you need to cross the busy road to get there)
+cleanles (the staff visits the room twice a day)
+location walking distance to the center

-breakfast - definetely it is not 5*, I suggest the management to visit 4* Clarion hotel Malmo Sweden and enjoy their breakfast, in villa the choice is really limited except of different types of bread and croissants;if they want to keep it limited, maybe it would be good to support local products and producers or add some eco product
-waiters- it seems that they have their own hierarchy and if you are solo traveller and woman you can sit and wait, wait and sit and all around group of people, families will be asked and receive their coffee and tea, so don'twait and ask otherwise you can wait till infinity
-no soundproof - your room will be quiet if your neighbours will be quiet
-hotel provides complimentary mineral water;one time as a refill I got already opened and used one
-wi-fi disaster during one session I was kicked off 5 times

Perfect Honeymoon
Reviewed 6 months ago

We had only booked a standard double room but as it was our honeymoon the hotel had upgraded us for free to a wonderful suite with an amazing view of Lake Lugano. There were hearts placed in the room and on the bed and a card from the hotel. The hotel had even put a big heart on our keyring! The room was amazing, we had a bathroom each, a large sofa, dining table, superking bed, two lovely balconies, fresh fruit, everything you could wish for.
Everyone in the hotel was amazing. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was incredible. There were about 8 different varieties of croissant, fresh fruit, yoghurts, seeds and grains, cereals, hot bacon, eggs, pancakes, maple syrup, cheeses and salami, cakes....everything you could imagine, all served in a beautiful room overlooking the gardens and view.
We just ate once in the casual dining restaurant. We both had pasta which was fresh and delicious, though we did think it was a bit expensive.
The situation of the hotel is lovely, just an easy stroll of about 15 minutes into the centre of town through the park and along the lake. We werent bothered by the sound of traffic at all as the gardens protect the hotel from the road, which was not that busy anyway.
It was very hot during our stay in early October, up to 28 degrees, but the air conditioning was not on, so the rooms did get very hot. That would be my only complaint, and even then we just opened the windows on the balcony so it wasn't too much of a problem.
Our whole stay was completely wonderful, we can't thank the hotel enough for making our honeymoon very special indeed.
