Overview

The Review

The Post Hotel Weggis, a waterfront hotel on Switzerland’s Lake Lucerne, is a refreshing breath of cool in this normally staid mountain village. The property even has a nickname that sounds like a trendy neighborhood: PoHo.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2944/prop-19138-1339613876-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The indoor swimming pool has clubby lighting that changes as you move.”}Which makes sense, because the hotel’s designers must have channeled the vibe of Zurich West in the planning stages. Zurich’s superhip gentrified factory district certainly pops into mind when you walk through the hotel’s bold, brash interiors, which are full of leopard-print carpets, tangerine walls and high-fashion art (prudes beware: The ladies in these striking canvases are close to nude). Some of the building’s original features do remain, such as the tiled staircase and glittery gold railings (the spot was formerly Weggis’s casino and, even further back, part of the post office).

Each of the 45 guestrooms teems with trendy electronics: flat-screen TVs, PlayStations and mind-boggling sound systems. Spacious and fitted with comfortable (but groovy) furniture, all the rooms sport lovely views of the city or lake.

Elsewhere, the spa (which features a fitness center and sauna) is a great place to relax after a day on the water or mountain, and the indoor pool changes colors as you swim, like some sort of psychedelic fantasy. PoHo’s Dining Lounge specializes in contemporary small plates ordered as three- or five-course meals, each arriving at the table like a work of art. We like the duck breast and bok choy served in what looks like a spilled tea cup.

Alternatively, in answer to the recent Swiss frenzy for traditional fare, the hotel opened Weggiser Stubli, a restaurant in a century-old building. There you can order such Swiss staples as fondue. And although Weggis isn’t known for nightlife, the hotel has two hopping bars to recommend it — one on a lakeside terrace and the other at water’s edge.

Well situated
Reviewed 6 days ago

Has its own private indoor garage at the back of the hotel for CHF 15 per day.
The hotel is impressive on entry with an imposing staircase entrance, a lift is located on the right on entry.
Reception was very helpful but room wasn’t ready so we left our luggage and took a boat trip for a couple of hours. On our return our room was on the top/ third floor overlooking the lake with a very nice private balcony. It was well air conditioned and very nicely set out with a large bathroom with bath.
One bedside light was dangerous, showing its wires and we had to cover it with a towel so as to not touch it by accident during the night. We informed reception.
Breakfast was very good with freshly cooked eggs various ways by the chef. Great fresh coffee and cereals, cold meats and smoked salmon, bacon and breads available.

Nice Facilities If Better Managed. Hotel also needs some upkeep.Reservation made months in advance was not honored due to Hotel''s overbooking. When finally was able to check in 2 days later -- after being sent to completely inferior hotel -- stay was okay...but facilities could be better mainained.

Worst Experience

I made a reservation to this hotel 7 months ago. I arrived and they told me they didn’t have my 2 rooms. He told me he called me twice that day but I didn’t respond. I asked what number he called and looked at the reservation and didn’t have a phone number- LIE #1. He told me they placed me at an equivalent property down the road and would give me the same price. The hotel down the road was terrible and didn’t even have A/C. -LIE #2. Then I asked how much they charged at this hotel per night and was much cheaper. So not only did Post Hotel Weggis screw me by not having a room and lie about everything, they tried to keep the extra money by having me pay more for an inferior hotel. Shame on this hotel and you should avoid staying at this place!!!

Lake View and Spa
Reviewed 4 months ago

Stopped here on a trip from Germany to Italy. Had an afternoon in beautiful Lucerne and arrived here in time for sunset on the lake and evening in the spa. View from room, pool and spa, and breakfast are fab. Decor is a bit psychedelic but friendly staff and swim and sauna more than compensate.
