This lakeside resort features streamlined condo-style villas and cottages fashioned from glass, timber, and steel, large enough for families and groups seeking a laid-back lake vacation. The resort is divided into “neighborhoods” with homes offering different perspectives–some are right on the water, some in a forest setting, and others on a ridge line overlooking the lake. All suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows and contemporary furnishings with nods to Scandinavian minimalism. Kitchens are fully equipped, so guests can cook meals then enjoy all the lake has to offer, including a ton of attractions on site, like hot tubs, swimming pools, and tennis courts.
In the Area
Explore vast Okanagan Lake on board a state-of-the-art Malibu Sunsetter boat from Vernon Boat Rentals–the craft is large enough for families and perfect for water skiing. In winter, head to Silver Star Mountain Resort for 3,065 acres of skiable terrain where powder enthusiasts of all ages gather to snowboard, ski, skate, and tube. Cyclists, meanwhile, will thrill to the miles of groomed trails in the area, most of which are also great for hiking.
How to Get There
My family of four stayed in one of the Trout Lake 2BR unit/pet friendly on the ground level. The price is on the higher side of our usual budget, but with all of the great reviews we decided to splurge and had high expectations. We've rented in Kelowna/Vernon area before so we were familiar with the area. On arrival into our unit we noticed that it wasn't particularly clean (stuff on the walls, the grease build up under the microwave etc...) and the patio screen door was completed torn open. This particular unit looked used and abused in my mind and was not worth the price. I did go back to the front desk to ask if we could be moved, but the girl at the desk told me once you are booked in a unit you cannot move as they are individually owned. I mentioned the cleanliness and the issue with the screen. She responded saying that they pride themselves on how clean the units are and that they do get a deep clean at the end of the season. So I guess your unit will be cleaner if you rent it a the beginning of the season than at the end? They did send someone very shortly after to fix the screen which was appreciated.
The biggest issue we had was noice from the unit above us. During the week, we could hear them walking, and even if they flushed the toilet, at night, we could here their conversations but it did quiet down by 11pm. Friday/Saturday night was another story. I'm not sure what they were doing but I actually thought someone was going to fall through our bedroom ceiling and this went on until about 2am. At check out on Sunday, I did let the front desk staff know, they said it was surprising as the unit above us belonged to the head of the Strata, but they would mention it to them.
The other reviews are correct in saying the grounds and the views are quite nice, but the cons outweighed the pros for our time spent there and we would not recommend it.
Spent a week in a Ridge house here with family and friends. The best feature is the lakeside location, the lake is clean and warm with great scenic backdrop. Site has tennis courts and a small gym and a couple of swimming pools. The Outback has been very cleverly and sympathetically built into the hillside and woods surrounding the lake. The cabins are well spaced so you do not feel crowded at any time. The home I stayed in was high spec with modern decoration and good wifi and other electronics. Only downside was it wasn’t as clean as we would have liked. Great location to get away from it all and relax with the family.
I’m glad to recommend Outback Vacation Homes in Vernon, B.C. This past June, my family and I spent a great time in their location.
We booked a comfortable and luxury house, close to the lake and the pool, with all the services you would need. You can enjoy the nature, the wildlife and a quiet relaxing place.
It was a good experience for all the family; we are planning to do it again every year.
We had a relaxing stay at the Outback resort. The layout is well designed and the units are huge. Loved the gym and the pool area. I would agree with a previous review that the beach could have been cleaned up. We appreciate the fact that the atmosphere is relaxed, people are on vacation and deserve a good time. It would be comforting if some security were available in some extreme cases. Obviously, guests don't want to call the police as is suggested in the room guide. We did see teenagers drinking alcohol at the hot tub. Frankly, didn't really care, but could have got out of hand. Long drive to town to get groceries, would be nice if the resort had a sandwich shop, convenience store or something like that. All in all, we will probably return.
My friends came up from Vancouver to celebrate my birthday with me at Outback and we stayed at one of the Ridge Homes. While the weather did not cooperate, we had the most fabulous time enjoying the home and the view. The staff were so helpful and we all said we would love to come back!
