Favorite Hotel Anywhere

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to travel to dozens of countries, hundreds of cities and multi hundreds of hotels and hands down, Grand Hotel Vesuvio is my favorite. The location is spectacular with awe inspiring views of Castel del Ovo, Capri and Vesuvius. Staff is fantastic. Decor is 100% old world class but with most modern amenities. Rooftop restaurant is outstanding. Can't say enough good things.

1st stop on Italian vacation

This hotel was a nice gem in the mountains. If you’ve never been here not staying in the middle of town was a blessing. Crowded, hot, and no view depending on where you stayed. This hotel offered the free bus shuttle that was very convenient and took you to the heart of where you want to be. The hotel is a little dated and the placement of the shower head was a little awkward. The air conditioning in the room was almost nonexistent. It kept our room probably around 75 degrees not refreshing after hot days outside. The time the pool closes is around 6:30 which was a little earlier than we would’ve liked but it wasn’t much of an issue anyway since we were headed to dinner most night around that time anyway. The pool snack bar doesn’t serve real food until 3:30 which was a disappointment but if you wait til 12:30 the poolside restaurant will serve lunch starting then. The breakfast needs real help! The eggs were always runny and they were scrambled. The choices never change so my suggestion for that would be more variety. We skipped breakfast a few times, we’re not big breakfast eaters anyway. The view was amazing and the staff soooo accommodating. The front desk staff were so helpful with everything. Excursions, travel arrangements, first aid, whatever. Very friendly and helpful!! I would definitely stay here again and just deal with the little quirks cuz they’re really not that big a deal. Nothing that ruined our trip. Definitely listen to the live music in the evenings, it’s good!

Great hotel, location, but maintenance issues
Reviewed 1 week ago

The place is fabulous. On the coast and overlooking Castel del Oveo. Beautiful location with a rooftop solarium and small ‘hot tub’, and a rooftop restaurant with great views.

Castle is right across the street and the street is basically a walking street and lots of people walking around.

Concierge was helpful, staff friendly and prompt.

They have a pool but it is indoors. (The hotel pictures show a pool outside but this is tiny and just a ‘hot tub’ kind of pool, not a swimming pool.

Hours for swimming pool are limited. Open only till 6pm. Same with solarium.

Disappointing for us was the rainy day we wanted to swim inside the indoor pool, it was closed ALL DAY because of an elevator issue. This was frustrating and disappointing. For the fanciness of the hotel, they should have been faster and gotten the pool up and running.

Also, my keys kept failing and I couldn’t get into my room multiple times. One even disappeared in the keyhole. While they got maintenance there within 5 minutes to fix, a five star hotel shouldn’t have these issues.

The room had cloth wallpaper and was beautiful, wig all the perks. The beds were awesome and we got great sleep there.
It really was a nice and fancy place.

Not as nice as advertised

This hotel advertised itself as a 5 star hotel but it is not! Maybe a 3 star hotel. Our room was sort of old and dingy and smelled of smoke. We were given a 2nd floor room on the sea front and it was very noisy with singing and regular traffic, as well as sewer repair work which was being done overnight right below our window. When I went down to complain about the noise, I was told I should have asked for a higher floor. It was already midnight and we were leaving at 4 am to catch a flight so it was too late to move rooms. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend this hotel.
