A charming beach lodge overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in the heart of California's world-famous coastline
Have a golden stay in the Golden State. The brand-new Cambria Beach Lodge captures that sense of nostalgia, wonder and endless possibility that you associate with a California road trip, with a minimalist, yet evocative, style that recalls a roadside retreat in the 1960s or ‘70s. Rooms have a beachy theme, featuring touches of wicker, wool and sun-bleached wood, plus “adventure kits” that include binoculars and hand lanterns. Simple but thoughtfully curated breakfasts of whole fruit and hard-boiled eggs are served each morning, and you can head up to a panoramic sky deck to sip on a glass of wine or read a book.
The property is also in the kind of place you’d most likely pass through on a given California road trip. Cambria is just off of the Pacific Coast Highway, smack-dab in the middle of the route from Los Angeles to San Francisco and just minutes from Hearst Castle – a certain William Randolph’s straight-out-of-a-fairytale mansion from 1919. It’s also a worthy destination in and of itself, with oceanfront trails and one of the last undiscovered shores in California. In fact, we wouldn’t blame you for making your road trip a bike trip instead, and spending your days cruising town – if that sounds more your speed, there are two-wheelers right inside the hotel.
Accommodations are inspired by the neighboring beach, with sun-bleached woods and pops of turquoise. Artwork is by Iron & Resin, and goodies come in the form of an "adventure kit," complete with a hand lantern and binoculars, plus the Apolis market bags, Halter Ranch wine other treats in your carefully curated minibar. Choose between a Deluxe King room, with a plush king-sized bed, or a Double Queen Fireplace room, with two queen beds and a fireplace.

Cambria is a charming coastal town, home to Moonstone Beach, where you can surf or swim, as well as a plethora of antiques shops, casual eateries and oceanfront biking trails (you can borrow a bike from the hotel directly). Nearby is Hearst Castle, a National Historic Landmark, and a couple hours up or down the scenic Pacific Coast Highway will get you to Monterey or Santa Barbara, perfect for day trips. You can even keep going to reach San Francisco or Los Angeles within a few hours.
