Buzzy young wine country enclave with a hip spa, Michelin-starred cuizine, and serious eco-cred
Solage Calistoga is situated on 22 lush acres in northern Napa Valley. The eco-friendly buildings’ exteriors riff on farmhouse architecture. Inside, it’s loftlike minimalism with vaulted ceilings, clean-lined furniture and an airy neutral color scheme of taupe, slate and chocolate. The 89 guest rooms and suites invite relaxation with buttery leather chairs, shady patios, and pillowy beds dressed in high-thread-count linens, and the chill vibe extends into the spa-like bathrooms with their pebblestone showers and organic, local bath products. After a long day of wine tasting, relax by one of two pools—a 130-footer for adults or a separate one for families—or book a treatment at the spa. The centerpiece is its famous Mud Bar & Bathhouse, a series of spring-fed, co-ed pools (or male-/female-only clothing-optional hydrotherapy circuits) complemented by mineral-rich mud body masks. There’s a state-of-the-art gym with free yoga, movement and fitness classes, two bocce courts, and a series of nearby running trails—and you can always take out one of the free retro-style cruiser bikes. That way, you won't feel guilty about packing the calories back on Michelin-starred Solbar, which serves Northern Cali fare paired with biodynamic wines.
In the Area
Ask the concierge (well in advance) to help you make reservations at one of several Michelin-starred restaurants in Yountville: the French Laundry, Bouchon or Redd. Just a little over two miles from the resort is Chateau Montelena, a historic Napa winery that inspired the movie Bottle Shock. Take a 90-minute tour of the 107-room Castello di Amorosa and enjoy sampling fine Italian wines.
