How to Get There
This is our second time staying at The Landsby. The Inn has been growing in the past couple of years increasing it's number of rooms and courtyards. The rooms are spacious, with what looks and feels like hardwood floors. This time we stayed for three nights. Aside from a finicky toilet, our room was very nice with a balcony overlooking the back courtyard. The crushed granite courtyards are dotted seating and side tables around fire places. The trees are decorated with lights. They make lovely evening lounges on warm nights. Our friends have a room facing the larger courtyard with split dutch doors, which I think fits well with the feel and access to the courtyard.
The inn is situated on the west end of the shops on Copenhagen Drive, behind Mortensen bakery. There is two levels of parking. Parking incurs an extra charge per night. Front Desk are responsive and always helpful. Happy hour at the Mad & Vin are usually lively. Highly recommended if you plan to stay in Solvang.
Space, space, space, the rooms are big, Well decorated in danish styl and clean, a very good bed to dream the night through, fine breakfast, helpfull staff at breakfast, nice bar to enjoy happy hour drinks, enjoyed this hotel very much
I stayed at the Landsby for two nights, coming in on Friday afternoon and checking out Sunday morning. At first glance the hotel is everything Instagram (and their own photos) make it out to be. It's pretty, calming, and different than the rest of Solvang. The check in process was smooth and fast. The king room we reserved wasn't in the best shape, the rug had a 3" rip in it and the desk lamp switch was broken. I also noticed that the rugs in the hallways seemed pretty dirty. Most of this could be fixed with more attentive staff focused on maintenance.
The room was aesthetically pleasing, but I was surprised to find that the dimmer switch by the door didn't actually control dimmable light fixtures. It operated only as on/off, and the 2 lights it controlled definitely could use a dimmer to make for a more calming environment. Additionally, a dimmer bulb could be used in the nightstand sconces since they are right at eye level with perforated shades they create glare. I was surprised the bathrooms didn't have an exhaust fan since moisture from the shower, and, erm...smells built up quickly. Finally, there is little to no insulation between rooms. We could hear the couple next door to us talking and watching t.v. throughout our stay as well as when their baby was fussy/crying.
Let me close with some positive highlights. The food at the hotel was great and their drink selection was wonderful. We found ourselves in the hotel lobby or bar to relax mid-afternoon or catch a drink before/after dinner. The service was always friendly, helpful, and attentive. The courtyard with firepits was a nice way to end each night. This hotel definitely sets the bar higher for the rest of Solvang. I'd stay here again but perhaps only for one night. For the price I paid, I expected a more luxe experience. For half the price I could have stayed at another local hotel and visited the bar and restaurant of the Landsby instead.
We had a very nice stay at The Landsby this past weekend and while it's a little pricey, the property and rooms are nice. It's a great place to stay and we give it a thumbs up. The only thing that was concerning was the old-timey keys for the rooms. In this day and age I'm concerned about losing my room key that clearly states the hotel name and room number on it. Given the cost for this hotel room it makes sense to have the digital room keys now. Otherwise, nice place!
I can't say enough nice things about this place. Our friends we were traveling with, on a wine tour around Solvang, had stayed here before and recommended we all stay during this visit. To sum it up in one word: CHARMING. I am in love with the decor! The staff were very friendly. The bed extremely comfortable. The ambience, inside and out, just lovely. I will definitely stay here again, and recommend it to ANYONE even coming close to Solvang. You won't be disappointed!
