How to Get There
If you stay here you must get a view of the beach as the other rooms look onto fairly grim buildings. The pool is absolutely tiny and so shallow that it is hard to properly swim in. Breakfast is adequate but wont take the buffet its a complete waste of money. The windows throughout the whole hotel need a good clean. Staff were a bit of a hit and miss.
Santa Monica itself is ok but in parts just a bit gritty for my liking
I got to the hotel during checkin and had to wait like an hour for my room. However they provided me with some champagne which made the wait easier. They also provided me with a credit towards the spa or restaurant. I enjoyed my stay. Everything was beautiful and the staff were all amazing.

You can come here even if you aren’t a guest - although you can’t access the pool! WiFi, drinks specials, loads of seating, valet service, Good for groups . No dress code and no reservations for the bar / outdoor seating linked to the bar.
We spent four nights at Loews Santa Monica, it had its pluses and minuses. A immediate big minus upon arrival was that the only parking available was valet at $60.00 a day! On Hotels.com it listed valet parking as "optional." I thought that meant that self parking was another option, the only other option was not having a car. So right off the bat, with the resort fee of 30+ dollars, just add an addtional 90+ dollars to your bill per night. Our room was a Standard Room, 2 queen beds with a view of Ocean Ave., roomy enough for a family of 4. As a plus, the chair converted to a twin bed. The room looked newly renovated and was pristine, a plus. Maid service and the aforementioned valet were attentive and always courteous+. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was that it had a large pool area, I hate nothing more than to have to vie for a lounger by the pool. Luckily, we were always able to get chairs. Food and beverage service by the pool was a little spotty. Sitting on the side of the pool opposite to the restaurant one day, for some reason that side was being ignored. Once we were served the snacks and smoothie we were given were just okay. One morning we had breakfast at Ocean & Vine and it was good. Nightly, we had drinks at the lobby bar, some nights inside and one night in front of a firepit overlooking the beach, which was lovely. However, on all occassions the chips offered as bar snacks were always stale. I love a hotel with a large lobby a huge plus for this hotel. Location-wise also had it's plus and minuses, it was nice to be able to walk (in L.A.!) to dinner and to the mall but the immediate area was really touristy. My rating of "Average" seems a little low and "Very Good" seems too high. With all the pluses and minuses I think this hotel is "Good."
Surprised my 11 year old son with trip to CA and hotel is described as a oceanfront with deceiving pictures as if it is ON the beach. Booked premium oceanfront room. Arrived at hotel at 2 hoping for but not expecting early checkin. Have credit card info for deposit and phone #. Room wasn't ready but was told I would receive a text when it was.
Two hours later, 4:00 check in time after waiting patiently tell hours, I went to front desk to check on my room. I went to different associate than first time as she was available first. She took my name and then asked for card for deposit after a looking up my reservation and offered me a glass of champagne,
Which I wasn't offered at original check in. I told her I had already checked in. We were then given keys for our "premium oceanfeont with 2 queen beds". A room that cost MORE than my amazing true oceanfront room at Malibu Inn. In addition parking was more than the valet in Malibu.
We were initially disappointed that the hotel was NOT on the beach and had a property in front of it. We had to walk down alleys to go to the beach, which was creepy with all of the homeless in the area. I didn't feel safe like in Malibu.
So we were excited to finally go to iur room after being forgotten about and were ready to put kmart behind us! Excited for the premium oceanfront room at the premium price, we entered our room. The room I was given was over the extremely loud, tiny, overcrowded pool stuffed with screaming children. I did not even have a balcony. I had called the desk asking for a different room stating that I had booked an oceanfront, not pool view with slight ocean view. Technically NONE of the the rooms are oceanfeont and are falsely advertised. They should all be called oncean view. The associate told me they didn't have any other rooms available. I told her I was given the worst room possible and was then put on hold. Suddenly there WAS a different room in a better location. I went to the front desk and was coldly handed the new room key. After arriving in the new room I was no less impressed. My view was the property in FRONT of the hotel, the alleys, bird poop all over the building, the run down "oceanfront firepit" patio that looked cheap and crappy in addition to the constant smoke on my patio from the people below me. The walls are thin, doors are heavy and constantly slamming, you wake up to room service going down the hallways knocking on doors, and a can of soda will cost you almost $8 from the mini fridge. The room inside was clean and comfortable and the overpriced room service was very friendly, although the menu was ridiculously priced. We ordered Domino's and you can get bottles of soda for $2. We looked forward to leaving the next day after the headache and wasted time.
Anyone looking into a trip to Santa Monica, don't bother paying all of the extra money for what you think will be a premium experience because you will not receive it. There are plenty of hotels with clean rooms and nice entry ways. In addition, I just received my invoice and it has a charge for over $115 for the restaurant there that I never went to soooo now I have to waste MORE time disputing the charge but unable to until *next business day*. Time is valuable to me and this one night stay wasted too much of it and ruined our vacation that was supposed to be fun and relaxing for my 11 year old. I regret my visit and wish I had stayed in Malibu because it would have cost less for a truly premium experience.
