How to Get There
We stayed in one of the spa suites with a jetted tub on the third floor. It was by far one of the best hotel rooms I’ve ever enjoyed and definitely the most luxurious bathroom. The bathroom has a sky light over the jetted tub, which has plenty of room for two adults.
Bonus feature: Have you ever seen the underside of a seagull? Now you can! A seagull lands on the skylight around 9 am every morning; you can look up and watch this majestic bird from below.
This is our first experience staying at this particular Four Sisters Inn. This charming Victorian property needs further refurbishing and guest services tweaking. Our stay during Thanksgiving week seem pared down, the breakfast experience was often inadequate. Apparently one, sorely over taxed gentleman served as the chef and the clean-up person. As a consequence, the tables never got cleaned. The on-duty staff manager, most often sat at her computer and when told that the food had run out or there weren't any utensils, she would say "They're in the dishwasher or the food was in the oven." She might scurry around momentarily addressing the lapse then go back to her computer station.
Overall the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our #6 room overlooking the arcade and water was small. The bathroom tub posed problems for the less agile being very deep. (I asked for a rubber mat for traction.) The gas fireplace kept the room cozy warm. (No ceiling fans.) A nice touch: the capped, glass water bottles in the small room frig could be refilled at the downstairs water cooler. And delicious cookies were always available. We never actually attended the afternoon wine and cheese gathering. The communal seating area was rather sparsely furnished. No flowering plants enlivened the lobby or downstairs living room. The stair runner and landing carpet needs to be replaced and the wall leading up the stairs scrubbed down. All and all, I think I will look for other alternatives when visiting our son in this seaside community. The potential is there but not fully realized. (Be aware of the "voluntary", five-dollar-a-day preservation tax that will be added to your bill unless you withhold permission.)
You can’t beat the location of the hotel, and we had a panoramic view of the beach and boardwalk area. The property has free guest parking and wifi, with breakfasts included. It’s a 200 plus year old home, so it isn’t quiet, but it more than makes up for it with charm and beauty. The breakfasts were great, and to walk out the door and head to the beach or wharf for dinner is fantatastic. Highly recommended.
The Inn has that great look of a classic early 20th Century Victorian mansion and the inside matches the architecture. Our room was very nice with furnishings that were comfortable and useful. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub! We were on the second floor and had a nice view of the beach and ocean. The breakfasts were a major plus with the only limitation being one's appetite. The Inn is a short walk from the pier, beach and boardwalk. The desk personnel were helpful and friendly. We would stay at West Cliff again.
Just a block from the wharf this beautifully restored mansion from the 1870's is a joy to stay in. Our room was very quiet and spacious, with 12 ft high ceilings, tasteful decor, well-designed bathroom. Very nice and comfortable sitting and dining areas, afternoon wine and cheese. Coffee, tea and cookies available 24 hours.
Extremely helpful and cheerful staff. All these rate a 5, however, because of the breakfasts I am giving it a 4. Each morning there was one egg dish (egg scramble was good but the huevos rancheros rather unpleasant, tasted of sweet potatoes). Also something sweet as well as toast, juice, coffee and tea. Missed yogurt.
Would come back if we were in the area.
