Very Unfortunate
Reviewed 2 days ago

I just wanted to share my experience recently. We were excited to take our yearly trip to Santa Barbara to see friends. Unfortunately, we received bad news about my Mother-in-Law that lives with us. She is very sick and could pass away anytime in the near future, so we decided it would not be right to leave town. We received this news on Tues afternoon, just after the 3 pm cut off for canceling the stay. Still very upset about the diagnosis, I tried to call the hotel and explain the situation and why we needed to cancel. I was told that the manager was the only one that could do this, but it was unlikely that the one-night penalty fee would be waived because we booked the room with a 3rd party company- such as TripAdvisor.
The manager called me back and stated that he was sorry about our issue, but all he could do was to only charge us for one night's stay. I told him that he was not doing anything for us and that, that was the policy already outlined. Basically, because we made the reservation not directly with the hotel, too bad. No acceptions, no consideration that we have stayed there before, etc. This is not a cheap hotel btw.
The manager was not very professional wishing me a "great day" (after I just told him that we could not come due to a major illness in the family).

So word of advise- If you book through anyone but the hotel you will not be considered a "real" customer. Also, this manager is not someone that should be working at this type of hotel- maybe Motel 6? or not even there. No couth or customer service skills whatsoever.
The next time we plan on spending over $300/night for a hotel it will not be with this establishment. I wish you all better luck.

Great Stay in SB

What a gem! From the lovely garden pool to the friendly staff to the spacious and comfortable room, we loved this hotel. Perfect location near town and easy walk to the beach. Plus, great restaurants right around the corner. What more could you ask for?

Fantastic hideaway

Fantastic hotel, within walking distance to downtown. Great room, great property. We had a fireplace with a seating area and a balcony that overlooked the pool. A fantastic bathroom. The staff was gracious and professional and so so thoughtful.

A place you visit once and then make an internal note to visit every year.

I took a solo vacation to Santa Barbara in April and sadly had a horrible stay. I was robbed from my hotel room near the end of my trip. The manager was helpful at first, but after I told him I was leaving (I no longer felt safe as a woman traveling alone), he made me press him for a refund for the items stolen. He had previously mentioned that this would not be a problem. I ended up staying in a residence inn near the airport for my last night. Obviously, I did NOT want to do this. It was a horrible end to my trip. I tried to follow up with the manager after my visit to see if anything had been found in their investigation. My call was never returned.

Do not stay here. It may seem like a nice, boutique hotel, but the staff is unfriendly and the only thing I can recommend about it was the breakfast. But even that got old after awhile because it was the same thing day after day. Such a disappointing visit for my first trip to Santa Barbara. Huge safety concerns here.
