What a marvelous inn, the staff are super attentive, the room was immaculate and the breakfast was personalised to your tastes. Parking on site too was a bonus. My only drawback, a long walk into the centre of town and particularly to the beach. So would give this top marks all the way, apart from location.

A lovely Inn - always top of the list for us in Santa Barbara

The inn is a peaceful retreat in Santa Barbara and within walking distance to everything on State street. We stay here every trip to Santa Barbara, in one of the cottages. This time we stayed in Pendle Cottage for 2 nights. It is a lovely cottage, 2 stories with bed and bath upstairs, kitchen and sitting area downstairs and a little outside private alcove with table and chairs. Complimentary breakfast delivered to the room each morning. All around a great experience. Oh and they have air conditioning in the cottages - not all places in Santa Barbara bother with that, and it was over 100 degrees when we stayed, so we really appreciated that.

A beautiful throwback to a more civiilzed time.

This stunningly preserved historical landmark B&B offers above-board, personalized service and quiet elegance. Every room is different and decorated in period style. Lovely park across the street. It's walkable to all the attractions of downtown Santa Barabara, but you won't want to leave. Sumptuous breakfasts are included and sweets and coffee/tea/lemonade available all day. Then you have a wine tasting hour with freshly prepared hors'deourves. It's our favorite getaway.

Best place to stay in Santa Barbara!

Over the last 30 years we’ve stayed in most of the higher rated hotels and B&Bs in Santa Barbara and we’ve settled on the Simpson House Inn as our default first choice whenever we return. We love everything about it. First, its location is wonderful, a couple of blocks away from the busyness of State Street yet within easy walking distance to the restaurants and theaters on upper State Street. It’s still as easy walk on down to the shopping areas. Alice Keck Park, which is very nice, is located essentially across the street. But, one of the most pleasant aspects of staying here are the lovely gardens and sitting areas around the Inn, itself, including its veranda. A very high hedge surrounds the property and that creates a wonderfully private and quiet atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy the day or evening.

Our most recent stay was in the Weathervane Room. It was perfect for us — large, comfortable, clean, nicely decorated with a separate sitting area and a small balcony. It included complimentary water and soda in the small refrigerator. We prefer the rooms and cottages slightly away from the main building but there are no bad rooms here.

The early evening wine and food reception is excellent. The wine choices are nice and the tasty food is generous and varied in its selection (perfect as hors d’oeuvres; enough for a light dinner). The breakfast each morning is outstanding, featuring a daily special with several egg options. Granolas, cereals and yogurt are readily available. Breakfast is served both inside and outside. We recommend eating outside.

The staff here are beyond friendly without exception.

There is no question we will return, because our next trip here is already booked.

Love this place!

This was the 2nd time staying at Simpson House Inn. The first was for my birthday back in March. We stayed in the Greenwich Cottage. It was so lovely. Loved the privacy of having your own entrance. Our recent visit was in the Pendle Cottage for our anniversary. This was a 2 story room with a full kitchen. We didn't really need the whole kitchen but it was nice to be able to stock some wine and waters to keep cold. We also made some hot tea before bed. The bedroom and bathroom were upstairs with a TV downstairs and a smaller TV upstairs in the bedroom. The bathroom was much larger than in the Greenwich Cottage with lots of counter space.

The early evening appetizers and wine each night were wonderful. And breakfast each morning with personalized menus were amazing. You could choose to have breakfast delivered in your room but we never did that. We enjoyed sitting out on the veranda eating breakfast looking out at the beautiful gardens.

I think we will be making this our go-to place when we stay in Santa Barbara from now on. The rooms, the gardens, the excellent service....you can't beat this place.
