How to Get There
I stayed in the Marriott Marquis for 3 nights while I was attending a conference in town. It was the closet hotel to the Moscone Convention Center, which is why I booked it. Prices were expensive, but I quickly learned that that was the case for all hotels in the Union Square area.
I arrived very early - my flight landed about 30 minute earlier than expected - so I reached the hotel by 10:30am. I had checked in online via the app the day before and was able to alert them of my early arrival. My room was ready by the time I had arrived, which was really much appreciated. I had hoped it would be, so I could drop off my bags and freshen up before exploring a bit.
The hotel was very centrally located, which was very helpful. Coffee and food were very close by and there was even a Trader Joe's across the street! It's located just off Market, which is the main street in the area.
Staff was very nice and my housekeeper was a sweetheart. My room was very big and very clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I had to get a taxi twice and the doormen were very helpful and efficient.
If I was in town again - and can afford to pay the prices - I would definitely stay at the Marriott Marquis again.
My husband is Marriott platinum so we always stay Marriott with points when we take family trips. Check in was efficient and well-staffed. Malte C. helped us at the front desk and answered lots of questions and placed our family in the perfect room with a little extra square footage for a rollaway! He was gracious and helpful. The concierge lounge is the best I’ve seen in any Marriott hotel. Full breakfast, full dinner, snacks in between, just a great perk for frequent travelers. The view lounge has the prettiest views of the city and kids are allowed from 4-6pm. We brought a card game and had Shirley temples and adult beverages. Views for rooms on higher floors are fabulous! The locations is central to so many wonderful restaurants, walkable to union square and Chinatown. We visit SF all the time and feel like this is the best hotel for family stays. First photo is from the view lounge, second photo is view fr our room.
When you spend over $300 a night for a hotel, you expect a few things. Personally I expect basic room service, the ability to order ala carte at breakfast, beds that don't hurt your back, and courteous staff. For this price, I don't think this is much to ask.
Unfortunately this hotel has none of those things. There is no room service. They force you spend over $25 per person on a buffet (even if all you want is Oatmeal), and the mattresses are deeply uncomfortable.
This hotel is the half eaten banana of hotels. It has all the potential to be good, but its just plain mediocre. And for the price, its downright bad.
There are many decent hotels in San Francisco. I strongly advise you to pick another one.
Stayed here for a conference recently and was a good experience. Staff was very friendly and helpful (minus a few confusions with billing). The conference rooms were beautiful and all events were handled well. The room was a bit smaller than I would have expected for 2 beds, but overall was good. Location is easily accessible to the conference center and shopping in Union Square. My only main concern was the pillows- all of them, on both beds were overly fluffy and none were stiff enough for my back. My head would just sink into them and not give me proper neck support. Would definitely consider staying here the next time I'm in SF.
Attending a conference in San Francisco at Marriot Marquis staying at the hotel definitely was not the cheapest option, However with no doubt I have been very satisfied with the received quality. The view from Sky deck is unprecedented either day or night time. Room hint: ask for a high floor room, definitely won't regret.
