How to Get There
I stayed at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina for the May 2018 ASTM meeting. I like that the hotel had a free shuttle that continually passed by the airport to pick up passengers every 20 minutes. There was no need to call and request a shuttle to come (like I had to do at the DoubleTree on Front St.).
The hotel is a little dated but clean and well remodeled. My room had a decor that reminded you of sailing. I had a beautiful balcony that overlooks the marina. The staff was very nice - every time I passed one in the hallways or on the grounds they flashed a smile and a greeting. Security is tight. Keep your ID on you at all times. If you accidentally leave your hotel keys in the room and you don't have an ID on you, then you will have to be let in the room personally by a staff; then, he/she will check your ID once you retrieve it from your hotel room (speaking from experience!)
Most of my meals on the property were for breakfast. I tried the broken egg sandwich, the quinoa porridge, and the donut French toast. everything was delicious. I'd have to say that the broken egg sandwich was my favorite. Though not advertised, you can request a half order of some of the items if you are worried about it being too much to eat or trying to save some money, which is nice. Also, I tried to fish and chips for lunch. It was OK, wasn't super impressed.
The hotel is located on Harbor Island; I guess it's meant to be a private maritime retreat. Consequently, if you want to walk out of a hotel and be close to the action of the city life, I don't recommend staying here. You need a car, taxi, or Uber Lyft to get anywhere. Or, if you are adventurous, look for a LimeBike, Discover, or other Rent-Ride-Leave bikes scattered near the property; and bike into downtown. (I think the hotel has bikes you can rent, but I'm not sure if you can leave them anywhere in the city when you don't need them anymore, or if you have to return them to the hotel.)
If, however, you do want a peaceful retreat where are you just stay and relax and enjoy the water, then this hotel will do just fine!
They switched our tower without telling us, so when we arrived at the wrong tower to check in they comped our resort fees and also gave us 4 free drinks to redeem at the bar/restaurant which I thought was great customer service, thank you for that! We are SPG customers, so we were on floor 11.. and the views are magnificent! Really enjoyed the bar, all the servers were very friendly. The little gift shop is also a must see!
Aweful service called the hotel several times and they promised that the shuttle was coming when in fact it did not. It’s troubling that the say something and do another. I will unlikely come back to this hotel again.
Took 45 minutes
I just checked in t attend a conference. After a late flight, I was ready to get some rest. Unfortunately the room I was given was very stuffy and smelled stale as if it has been closed for months with no guests. While hanging my clothing in the closet, I discovered a rather large spider. I will have a hard time falling asleep now because I am not sure if there are more :-(
Will visit again! Loved the view, the deck, pool and hot tub. I stayed at the Bay tower which is a short walk from the Marina tower. Really nice conference venue. Only room for improvement was the tub/shower design as the shower head didn't extend into the tub enough.
