How to Get There
You expect more than a good bed and a croissant for $400 a night. The coffeemaker was broken, and the office was locked until 8:45 am (not the 8:30 stated) it wasn’t until then that we could get coffee and a roll. We called their after hours number to report an issue and there was no answer. Decor was bare bones, and the toilet seat was peeling. Very disappointing...
We’ve been coming here with our family for over 30 years and have always loved Scripps Inn. It’s one of the most beautifully located hotels you can find. Today we checked into our room and found the sheets were full of sand and hair. The cleaning lady had just left, so obviously she just didn’t change the sheets after the previous guests. So disgusting. There is sand all over the floor outside our room, a large piece of furniture is missing (it’s apparently being reupholstered) and they no longer offer liners for the ice bucket (also disgusting). For $250-350 a night I think they would offer basic amenities like clean sheets and plastic lice bucket liners that you’d find at a Holiday Inn. We asked for the manager and was told he wasn’t here today. Seems as though the hotel has gotten complacent to say the least. Like other reviewers, I’m truly disappointed in the care and quality of services being offered here now.
We stayed in one of the suites, which was worth the extra $. It was huge with a kitchen, lots of closet space and lovely ocean view. It’s close to everything. We never had to get in our car. Restaurants, shopping and markets were all within walking distance. And you’re right across from the beach. The cons—I had to keep north facing blinds closed because of the unsightly construction site next door. Luckily it was a holiday weekend so no work noise—that would’ve ruined the whole stay. Not much common space—and what there is wasn’t kept very clean. But overall a pleasant stay.
