How to Get There
This hotel turned out to be better than we expected so we stayed an extra night (3 in all).
Perfectly located just at the brim of the beach you can fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.
Rooms are spacious and clean.
It is in no way a fancy bling bling hotel but has a suttle understated charm.
Seals, sea lions and pelicans are a short 10 min walk away and the same goes for a broad variety of restaurents and shops.
The view over the Pacific blue is magnificent and can be enjoyed from the sofas on the front terrasse.
We hope to come back one day.
A perfect location for a small motel - right across from the Ocean! This was a unique property charmingly renovated to give it a very beach -like feel. If you're looking for a very clean, comfortable, and well decorated room which feels more like a bed and breakfast than a motel, this is your place. Not noted for amenities, the staff tries hard to make you feel at home. And they do have coffee and pastries in the morning.
I would definitely stay there again!
Scripps Inn has been a lovely inn tucked away in the village of La Jolla for many, many years. Its 14 rooms are available right at oceanside for great rates.
I walk by on my daily walks and have often recommended Scripps Inn to family and friends coming to visit.
They can then have wonderful access to coastal walks, incredible sunsets, fine dining at some of Southern California’s top restaurants and some of the beat coffeeshops/diners/casual restaurants of the San Diego area.
I have seen whales along the coastline in front of Scripps Inn, and there are always the sea lions and seals to see on a daily basis.
This is such a great location and a quaint spot and it is tucked in a beautiful spot that provides splendor, access, and quiet.
We had decided to book at this Inn through suggestions in Reviews. We have visited La Jolla previously and the location of this Inn has beautiful views and is located within walking distance to many of the shops and to many good restaurants as well. It is easy to get to the oceanfront walkway in La Jolla as well. We also stayed in the 2 rooms (#6,12) that are on the corner of the Inn and face the ocean, so they have beautiful views. The room is spacious with king size bed and are nice for 2 people. There is a simple continental breakfast included with each of the rooms also. No air conditioning in the room, but good cross breezes and a ceiling fan. The only complaints I have is that the shower/bath is a little outdated and the shutters that are supposed to give you privacy were broken and hard to use (#6). One of the screens is also torn so leaving that window open was not an option. Overall, the location was great for getting a bottle of wine and watching the sunset and a view of the ocean and close enough to hear the waves crashing as well.
The venue is the main selling point of this accommodation and it is the main thing they rely on. The staff are friendly and helpful.
But for the sizeable price you pay , you get:
- an outdated room that doesn't have modern amenities. No AC, not enough power points on the wall, no electric jug.
- a pretty average continental breakfast that consists of Aunt Betty lookalike packets of muesli and a muffin thing, all on a paper plate and plastic spoon.
- a bathroom that hasn't been updated since Psycho was filmed.
- noisy neighbours
- wooden window shale blinds that look cool in old maritime style but are actually chipped, broken and difficult to open and close because of it. This is reasonably important as they are your only means to privacy.
Overall, can't fault the staff or location but its pretty clear JC Resorts are milking this without paying any attention to upkeep or future planning. You could pay much less, get better accommodation and walk for 5min to the beach. C'mon JC resorts - surely you can modernize the building without ruining its charm and making it worth the price?
