How to Get There
My boyfriend and I wanted to do a staycation so I found a really great deal on Priceline. As it turns out, it is one of the most beautiful hotels in San Diego, and the staff did not disappoint!
Nathanial at the front desk was great as I had to make some calls ahead of time (we were on the road driving in) and then in the morning Haven helped me as I was running a bit late. The room service staff was really good and as we were leaving Maurice and Jeremiah (the valets) were so friendly and helpful!
Highlights were the really excellent restaurant and the absolutely beautiful pool with cabanas that you can use without pre-renting. Really nice hot tub as well and very well-equipped workout room with apples and fresh water with strawberries!
Thanks again, Marriott Mission Valley - this ranked up there with one of our very best stays in San Diego!
I was surprised to wind up here. It's a rare day when they offer the best deal. The staff was really great in giving suggestions about better ways to get places. I also enjoyed watching them lobby for their department's pumpkins carved for a contest (it was Halloween) The room was very nice as well and my only gripe was that I only could stay one night.
Would I stay again? Yes!
My brother had a work conference to attend at this Marriott end of September, so I decided to join him for a couple of days. Since my brother's job made the reservations, I wanted to call in and make sure they would have two beds for us. I had to call this hotel on THREE separate occasions for them to even find the reservation, even though the room was reserved about 3 months ahead of time. They weren't even aware of the conference happening at their own hotel in just two weeks.
Onto the hotel now. About 15-20 min (by car) from the airport, it's conveniently located walking distance to the metro (Rio Vista stop on the Sycuan green line). Since I was traveling on a budget, that was very convenient. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with palm tress and lounge furniture all around. They also have a good-size outside pool and a gym. I forgot the exact pool hours but I recall that one would definitely be able to take a dip early morning or late evening if they chose to.
The rooms were alright. Nothing too fancy and nothing major to complain about. I will say that it was dusty but then again I'm quite picky about stuff like that. Also upon check-in and throughout the whole stay, there was a half-used Gatorade and sandwich in the fridge from a PREVIOUS guest and nobody bothered to clean that out.
Unfortunately, I didn't really feel the Marriott warmth from the front desk employees either. Overall it wasn't a bad experience and I can see myself staying there again; however, I wouldn't think twice staying elsewhere for even a small price difference.
