Very Reliable Hotel
Reviewed 5 days ago

We stayed almost a week at San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter, and had a great time all around. They spray a scent in the lobby, and that scent is very refreshing when you come in from the outside.

We had to have something FedEx-ed as an emergency before our arrival, and the hotel made sure the item was properly accepted and saved for us. Check-in was prompt.

Our room on the 15th Floor (1523) was precisely what one would expect from a hotel of this type. Usually I stay away from ice-makers as they are noisy, but this one had an ice-maker room right next to us and we heard absolutely no noise. Our room and bathroom were very clean. The Wi-Fi was dependable.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, it is close to absolutely everything in Gaslamp Quarter, and is a block away from 5th Avenue, which has scores of Gaslamp's restaurants. You are also right next to Petco Park, and there is a spectacular view into the park from the rooftop bar.

The only downside is that there is no pool, whirlpool, or sauna at this hotel. Also, one time, we got onto the elevator, and along came on a bellboy with a luggage cart, and an adult man and his what appeared to be a 10-12-year-old daughter. And as the elevator was about the move and closed its doors, the father-daughter duo started jumping up and down, and the bellboy seemed to be supporting this very dangerous activity.

Overall, this is a very good hotel, and we enjoyed our stay here.

Great Location and the Hotel is in Excellent Condition

Whether you are going to the Convention Center or a Padres game this is the perfect location. The rooms are in great shape and they have access to internet TV in the rooms. I really appreciate that the room was very dark when the curtains were closed. They have a nice size fitness center that is well equipped. The staff, with the exception of the security guard (who made a stink about us bring bottled water in that we got from the concierge lounge) at the entrance to the rooftop bar, all were exceptionally nice and polite. The concierge lounge is a little small for a hotel this size, but they do a nice job of keeping it stocked.

Great Hotel

This was a very clean and modern hotel located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Executive lounge was excellent with great views of the river.

Loved my stay there and highly recommend it...

This was my second visit to this property. I knew after my first visit that this is a great place and this visit did not disappoint. This is the perfect location for a Padres game. If you don’t have tickets and prefer a birds eye view then the Altitude Lounge is your spot (although you gotta be ok with crowds).

Since it was game weekend there was no early check-in available. Riley at the front desk made sure he annotated all of my requests and they were fulfilled even though they were fully booked. As I waited for my room I relaxed in the concierge lounge where Diana greeted each and every guest as they entered. Her attitude is contagious and one would have to try and NOT smile as her greeting was always joyful and welcoming. Yolanda was just as pleasant as she tended to the snacks and made sure everyone had what they needed. We are in the restaurant the next morning and Josh tended to our every request. Clarified what was to be expected on the buffet, such as the ability to order an omelet as well as pancakes, waffles or French toast to go along with the buffet. Finally, Marco at the bellman desk gave pointers on how to maneuver Gaslamp Quarter and also provided great info about our upcoming adventures to Chicago, as this is where he was raised!

All in all this is a fabulous property and the people make it my preference of all the properties in Gaslamp. Steps away from Petco Park means you can hear the crowd when great plays are made (if your room faces the park...which was our request). Love this property and will be back again!

Bait and Switch

We stayed here because of the location and the amenities. The rooftop bar was a significant factor to stay here rather than another hotel. Our first night a rather surly "security" person prohibited us from entering the rooftop bar. It was sold out to a private function which precluded access by any other hotel guests. We were directed to a small indoor area on the roof which was decorated like a 1970's airport. Probably 1/10 the size of the rooftop for all the "other" paying guests. We went elsewhere. When the rooftop bar is open it is open to the public as well as hotel guests. We were not informed at check in nor at any time that this important part of the property would be off limits to us. Very disappointing that the rooftop bar is prominently displayed in advertising but is sold out to the highest bidder and not available to guests. Bait and Switch. That said the lobby restaurant had excellent service and food options. The parking valets were prompt and courteous. Next time we will try another hotel which will hopefully not shut out guests from the facilities.
