How to Get There
Construction is going on daily until 7pm at this hotel. The walls in our room vibrate with the construction. Housekeeping didn’t show up to clean the room when we arrived by 4pm. We called to let them know we wanted the room to be cleaned in an hour and all of a sudden housekeeping storms in without knocking when we were trying to rest. The place is a mess. Not worth the money and not an enjoyable experience. Not worth $300+ a night at all. I told them that they should have emailed us ahead of time to let us know about the MAJOR construction that would be going on all day.
I love the Marriott Del Mar! Such a breath of fresh air. You just know everything will be as good as always! What a great chain of hotels. Their keyless mobile app was so new age. I absolutely love everything about this location. Fabulous gym and delicious restaurant. They truly have it all.
We were in an updated room. We had a view of the freeway and another building through some very dirty windows, but the room itself was comfortable. The barn door on the bathroom is a little annoying, as it is noisy and lets light and sound out on either side of it. Looks great, but not really practical. It could be very useful in an accessible room, as it makes for a wide doorway. BTW, although we could see the freeway, we really couldn't hear it.
Lots of outlets and USB ports - thank you! The shower was odd: it had a handheld shower wand, in addition to the rain style shower head, but the lever for it was on the rain shower head, about 7 feet up the wall. I'm 5'10" and had to stretch to reach it. There was also a grab bar about a foot off the floor, and a shampoo niche about 6" off the ground. That was probably to put your foot in for shaving your legs, but still in a strange place. Lastly, the smart looking, large drain in the shower is metal, so the shower is quite loud as the water hits the metal plate. Back to the barn door not helping with sound.
Parking is $20. Paying for parking at a hotel that isn't in an urban center is a pet peeve of mine, so I'll leave it there. The good news is that it was less than some others in the area.
Staff was helpful. We didn't use any amenities of the facility. Bed was quite comfortable, which is really the whole point, right?
Great restaurant, bar, and staff, but that’s where it stops. This hotel is undergoing a disastrous renovation which has to be making the rooms worse (I am forced to deduce). Our completely renovated room had virtually no carpet and a single drawer. The noise level right now is insane on all floors, and we woke up today with no water. Our sink was nearly totally clogged. The clothes hook on our wall fell out when I used it. Worst of all, there is no indication online that this is the current situation. Admittedly, the very apologetic staff comp’d me for my last of 4 nights, but my overall experience should be a total embarrassment to Marriott. I don’t expect to return to a Marriott property anytime soon.
My wife and I recently stayed together at this property, and Kristy & Ahlia made sure it was special for us! They had treats and some bubbly sent up to the room as a surprise. The room was also outstanding - and newly renovated. Romel and Roland also made sure we had everything we needed for our room to make sure our stay was excellent.
Those special touches and fine attention to details, especially for loyal guests, is really what makes hospitality tick.
