How to Get There
ESP Review of Hotel Indigo – San Diego June 2018
The Summary: The Vibe: “Cool” hotel targeted for the younger crowd
Location & Transit Options: Hotel is located on 9th street between Market and Island Ave. This is ‘downtown’ within walking distance to most everything (gaslamp, bball stadium, harbor, convention center, etc.) Best way to reach the hotel is by Uber from the airport. If you have to drive in, don’t park at the hotel ($47/day parking at hotel (ouch!) but instead use parking nearby (only $15/day at ParkIt on Market).
Room & Bath: Pros: Room is relatively spacious and has modern, hip design typical of the IHG Indigo brand. Bathroom has a larger walk-in shower and large countertop area around the sink to put all your stuff. The bed was super comfy and there is a large TV with a good selection of channels. Cons: Surprisingly, the only USB outlets are on a clock ‘thing’ near the bed. There are no USBs at the desk. There is also no frig in the room (but they will bring one if you ask). Lastly, the desk chair has no arms on it (one of my pet peeves!).
Amenities (Wi-Fi, gym, pool, etc.): The Wi-Fi was good (~17Mb DL and 18Mb UL speeds). The gym was better than average and with good space for stretching and nice equipment set. There is no pool or spa but they do offer to let you use facilities at other IHG properties nearby…
Food & Beverage: The lobby has a lounge/snack bar area as well as sitting area. To the right of the lobby area was a bar/restaurant with large windows that opened to outside – a nice, cool touch. They also have a small rooftop lounge which was small but quite nice with some firepits and lounge seating.
Staff & Service Level: Staff were pleasant and helpful. Always said hi as one walked past them.
Would I Repeat?: Yes. The location was great for getting around downtown (close enough but not directly in the busy areas) and the room and gym where at an above average level.
This was the most perfect hotel to stay at when in the city of San Diego . Walking distance to Petco Park, restaurants, coffer, etc. Staff was wonderful and helpful. Beautifully decorated rooms and great beds. Only downside is no pool, but a rooftops bar and lounge. Restaurant on site. Close to the airport. Definitely would return.
We recently stayed at Hotel Indigo, and it was wonderful! Our room on the 5th floor had a beautiful view of the city, and Petco Field is right down the street, so we could watch the fireworks from our window. The location is perfect. An easy walk to everything in the Gaslamp Quarter, and we were also able to walk to Seaport Village.
There is no pool, but the desk told us that the Hyatt (an easy walk) allows guest to use their rooftop pool, which we did. It was beautiful! The fee was not bad, and you get all information at the Hyatt’s front desk. We used the adult pool, but they have a children’s pool as well.
The staff at a Hotel Indigo is first class! Also, don’t dismiss the small bar/restaurant in the hotel. Their food was great, and once again, the servers were top notch!
The rooms in this hotel are beautiful. Simple and serene, with large windows. There is only one thing that would make it better, and that would be a complimentary continental breakfast with coffee and juice. I’m not sure you will find that at any downtown hotel, but it would be nice.
I definitely recommend Hotel Indigo if you are in San Diego!
normally, when a hotel charges its guests to park, 1 star less in review. but in san diego its a different story, it is pricey, but understandable. however.. there is a city lot a block away. about 15.00 a night. this IHG property is top notch !! we got an unexpected upgrade that made our whole trip wonderful.... a special thanks to Erica who made our stay perfect !!! our room was very quiet, cozy, and very clean. this property puts my faith back in the IHG card. my wife did not want to leave, she asked if we could move in !! again... way to go Indigo !!! we will be back !!!
Cool hotel. Nice rooms. We were told no stadium view rooms were available but that quickly changed, not sure why but the room we got was very nice and clean. Car parking is crazy expensive but super convienient. Would have scored 5 if the parking was less expensive. Roof top bar is nice if you can get a seat near a fire pit.
