How to Get There
Everyone at the hotel was great and very accommodating. The concierge Shawn was the most helpful with my request. The rooms had an amazing view. Our group (employees) was happy with the hotel, our employees felt very special staying at the Bayfront Hilton. The room was clean. The views was amazing. Te check in process was great.. and if there was any issues they help right away.
As lousy luck would have it, we arrived in San Diego just in time for a rare, two-day rain event. As good luck would have it, the wonderful Hilton staff helped us find silver linings that saved the day. First, it must be said that this particular property, which is normally very business and convention oriented, was transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland for December. Just walking around and looking at the stunning decorations was a lift. A highlight for us was the adorable gingerbread houses. (At night, for an additional fee, families can take their kids to a special play area featuring holiday activities.) But hoping to get out and see other sights, we inquired what indoor activities would be available on rainy days. A very friendly and knowledgeable concierge (Lou Anne) provided the info we needed, suggesting a tour of the USS Midway, as well as visits to the area's many outstanding museums. She explained how to get around via Uber, taxi and trolley, and gave us some great restaurant options. She was very keen on a place called Liberty Station, an old Naval barracks facility that has been repurposed and is a model urban renewal project. So once the weather cleared, we followed her advice and did an evening walkabout there. So glad we did, especially since it was all decorated for the holidays. There was even an ice skating rink. The Bayfront Hilton is a wonderful hotel with fine accommodations and great customer service any time of year, but somehow it seems especially so in December. And on rainy days.
Despite a few issues here and there this hotel offered great amenities and staff were generally responsive to requests. I would stay there again. Close proximity to the Gaslamp District is another major bonus!
My husband & I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. It is a great hotel and very convenient for getting all around - by foot, tram, ferry or uberring to a destination. We would highly recommend it - the staff go above and beyond to help in any way possible. We especially want to thank Shawn Romero, the concierge, who provided us with terrific dining recommendations and made our reservations. The room has enough drawers to fully unpack so we didn't have to "live out of a suitcase" plus there is a full closet full of working hangers [not hangers on metal clips that don't move!].
My biggest beef with this hotel is the lack of microwaves. You can’t even request a microwave and even with a suite upgrade (which gets you a fridge) there is no microwave. This is a major issue for anyone with medical issues who need sanitizing of equipment and anyone traveling with kids. For nearly $300 a night I think the property can purchase some that you can request.
We got the free breakfast coupons for being gold members. You can use them for a continental breakfast but we found that to be too formal for the kiddo. So instead we used them at Starbucks which worked great.
The prices of food and especially drinks are rather high at this property, even for being San Diego. There is also not much within close walking distance. You need at least 15 minutes to anything in Gas Lamp.
Our room was nice enough but the carpet is getting rather worn.
The view was truly wonderful and we had good experiences with all staff.
The pool was great for kids and had a nice slide. For a December stay the pool was still warm enough for the kids to enjoy.
It is a good location for a business stay, but for a return trip with family we would probably look at a different property.
