How to Get There
But I don’t. This hotel has so much potential, but the service is only average, just like the rooms. No minibar always disappoints. On this visit (I attend an event every year), I almost destroyed a shirt because their iron was filthy. My rate was about $300/night, I guess due to late booking and high occupancy. Given incredible location, I suppose I’d feel better about this place at $200. HTP, please clean your irons! P.S. The coffee guy who works their conferences serves up the best espresso, possibly on earth.
I have been here a few times in the past. They are much in need of a facelift. I was here for a conference and while the facilities were adequate and the food was OK, the coffee was pretty disappointing in general at the hotel and for the conference. The coffee maker in the room is one of those old disgusting plastic tray filter coffee makers. Who doesn’t have a Keurig these days?
Where is a Starbucks in the hotel which you are held hostage to because there is not another one within walking distance.
The hotel has a weird smelling air conditioning system most likely to overcome the smell of mold. I was put in a very basic room and had to change rooms immediately due to the stink of that “air freshener”
It was too cold to use the pool or hot tub so I cannot comment on that. The workout facility was also adequate but also had that weird smelling “air freshener in the air-conditioning system so the gym was very weird smelling. With a resort pass, you do have the ability to use the gym next-door with fitness classes that are mostly designed for people with Parkinson’s or in general someone elderly. I did not have a chance to go over there.
For the most part the staff was very helpful and friendly and accommodating.
I would not look forward to going back here if I had to. I would definitely not choose this hotel voluntarily.
I think it is a poorvalue for the price.
Smoke detector directly above bed
A/C doesn’t get cold, only cool
We stayed for only one night, and couldn’t sleep all night long. The smoke detector is installed above the bed, near the foot area. It has a bright green light on it that shines directly down to the bed, which caused us both to stay awake most of the night. We don’t travel with sleep masks as most hotel rooms are dark enough.
The weather was not good. It rained two days out of four. The shower floor is very dangerous. I had to be really careful not to fall when taking shower. I wouldn't stay there if I had the choice. The breakfast buffet was nice, and the staff was very friendly!
My stay at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines was very nice. Giving 4 stars because as others have mentioned, the hotel is a bit worn and tired and could use a good makeover. I had a gorgeous pool view room on the 1st floor which I enjoyed, but was a bit disappointed that you could not walk out onto the property or pool from the little patio. It’s in a small hill covered in mulch and there are huge shrubs between the pool and the room so it’s not a “walk out” type of set up. The only other negative is that my AC did not work well. I had it on 65 and the room was very warm. And the parking fees are way to high, especially when you are already paying $30 a day resort fee (+$31 self parking).
The good!!!! Beautiful views and great location. The food at the main restaurant was wonderful! The wait staff was very kind and friendly and attentive. I ate there several times and enjoyed it very much.
Beds were very comfortable. Front desk staff was very nice.
I would definitely recommend and would go back.
