How to Get There
It's a little pricey for sure but the location for going out in Gaslamp is ideal for me. Close enough to walk to the Convention Center or PetCo Park, the hotel is also far enough where you do not feel overcrowded in the Gaslamp district. There is a trolley stop near by as well. Try to find street parking because hotel parking is a bit overpriced.
Yes: every day you are there. Sure, there's free in and out service with that but frankly it's a rip-off... daylight robbery if you will... and leaves you feeling like you've been car-jacked at check-out.
The hotel itself is fine. Clean, modern and well-located for downtown San Diego, the waterfront area, Gaslamp, and Little Italy. The rooms are large and are two-room suites around a large atrium. There's a pizza joint/bar on the lobby level and free breakfasts.
However, I will never stay there again due to the extortionate parking charges - there are plenty of other nearby, modern hotels you can stay at with equal or better rates and way cheaper parking.
I tried to explain I was arriving for 7 nights and would not be using my car but there was no option or discount. When I checked out, the woman checking in next to me actually cancelled her booking, forfeiting a night, as she worked out it was cheaper to stay nearby due to the parking charges.
C'mon Embassy Suites/Hilton: stop ripping off your customers and Hilton Honors members! This would have been a 4-star review if not for that.
This was not our first stay here so I was looking forward to the usual very pleasant Embassy Suites experience. Not to be!
The bathroom door handle was falling off and there was a terrible loud, clanking whirring noise that i thought was from the exhaust fan in the bathroom. However, it never turned off and was also very loud in the bedroom. I called the front desk and the operator 4 times but no one ever answered. I went down to the front desk and could see they were busy checking people in so I went over to the concierge who was doing nothing. I explained the problem and she said they were very busy and the front desk would have to fill out a work order. She was not about to pass a message on or call maintenance.
Later that evening, I called again and did get an "engineer" to come up. He said it was not the fan and the noise was coming from within the wall--he had no idea what it was but pounding on the wall made it stop. Good! However, it started up again at 2:30 am and had switched walls--now coming from the bedroom and keeping me awake the rest of the night.
Spoke to front desk who said they'd have a supervisor/manager call me. He did NOT. I called again and got him on the phone. He couldn't figure it and also couldn't figure out how to "compensate" me for the trouble. He said he'd talk to accounting and get back to me. I'm back home now and still haven't heard from Embassy Suites.
Managers reception had substantial appetizers, like orange chicken, rice and lots of veggies and chips. Easy walking to the Marina and Seaport village, also close walk to the metro trolley. We had a great view of the harbor.
We enjoyed our stay here. The location is fabulous being close to Seaport Village and the waterfront. The staff was friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was really good. Parking was a little pricey but the valet service was fast and friendly.
