How to Get There
Business conference at the Catamaran was a great experience. Rooms were quiet and comfortable, lots of activities for everyone. Fantastic dining at the hotel and within walking distance. Right on the beach and something new was always going on.
You've guessed it, this hotel is about location, but not just only that, myself and wife stayed here for 10 nights to help celebrate my wife's birthday.
We arrived late and so couldn't see our view, we had a room on the 12th floor of the tower block, the room was large, with 2 beds and a decent sitting area with sofa, table and chairs, there was also a small kitchen area, this was in need of some tlc but was functional, the bathroom was also small and in need of upgrading but again it was still functional.
Now for the view, the first morning opening the curtains we were greeted by a fabulous view of the mission bay area and the pacific coast with glorious sunshine, this was great.
The hotel is located on mission bay right in the centre of all the nearby bars and restaurant's, the hotel grounds are kept in order there are koi ponds with ducks wandering around (we even seen some humming birds).
We had breakfast included in the oceana restaurant which was great, we didn't have a bad morning. there is the moray bar which we enjoyed with daily happy hour (3-6) with drink and food offers, there is a spa which we didn't use but did think the prices for treatments were a bit on the pricey side, there is a gym also but we gave that a miss also, as stated the hotel sits right on the beach of the bay so there's not far to go if you want the feel of sand between your toes, there are water based activities available if you want, we were given a complimentary bay cruise over to the sister hotel the bahai, which was ok.
We had evening meal at oceana whilst there, this was wonderful, I hand the fillet mignon which was great, my partner had the ribeye which was lovely, I found the staff all to be very happy and helpful (indoor/outdoor seating available).
The hotel is ideally located to visit all the sights, any enjoy the local night life with numerous bars etc to visit (there are a number of shops close by also).
The hotel offers discount tickets for SeaWorld and the zoo available from the gift shop.
Only down side, I did arrange for a surprise of chocolate strawberries and champagne to be in our room on our arrival, these never arrived, and when checking out I was informed by one member of staff that a charge of $30 was required to keep the room until 14.30 hours, but when we return to extend our room another member then stated it was $30 for only 30 mins, so some confusion, we did not extend, it might be better if the hotel had a shower room for guests with late departures to freshen up and get changed.
All in all we had a great stay and if we have the opportunity would definitely stay again.
I am meeting planner for a professional association conference. We just completed our third conference at the Catamaran over the past seven years are will probably come back. The whole conference and banquet staff is fantastic. Special props to banquet captain Dave Hopper and conventions services manager Victoria Hartwell who made it their personal mission to ensure our conference was 100% successful.
The hotel itself has a fabulous location that is the perfect place to hold a meeting *and* bring your family for fun and relaxation after the work day ends.
Location is great, facilities are well suited for meetings and the price is affordable.
I highly recommend considering the Catamaran for either business or vacation.
